Something different for a change: The USA is second-slowest while Australia is fastest when it comes

I dunno about the rest of the US, but here in southeastern Michigan I consistently get 30~40Mbps whenever I speedtest my 4G.

It does drop a lot when I leave the cities and go out to the bigger countrysides, though. But cell service in general sucks out there.
1.38mbps DL, 1.99mbps upload on GiffGaff
I've never noticed a problem with it :v:

Then again I do pay £10 a month for unlimited texts, 200 minutes and 1gb of data with any time cancellation so who gives a fuck
When I found out about it I was like "b-but they only invented 3G a few months ago, what the fuck", but then I realized that it's just my country
3G was around for a long time before 4g, it just wasn't advertised until the shiny iphone
I didn't even know 4g already exists
South Korea (because ofc it's them) are already planning to roll out 5G in 2020

$130 for 3GB? Phone bandwidth needs to step it up.
Oh wow. The average 4g speed in the US is like 3mbs faster than my Wi-Fi speeds at its best.
I still have 3g...
$130 for 3GB? Phone bandwidth needs to step it up.
Telstra does that a lot because Telstra is the only provider that has close to 99% coverage all around Australia, so if you want the best, you better pay big for the best
It's stupid I know
I pay 90 for 1.5 gig.
Unfortunatly my phone on telstra barely gets 3G (I only use free facebook anyway, fine on 2G)
Then there's the PC

What ISP is that even
I dunno, we have 4G and aren't on the list, so I'm pretty sure they missed a bunch and the US isn't really that low
Edit: then again I just tested my download speed with 4G and got 21.92 Mbps and our country is so miniature that I get coverage nearly everywhere, so I guess we wouldn't fare so poorly at all

Mobile download is ~8.7x faster than landline.
Mobile upload is ~17.9x faster than landline.
I... just. :(
It probably has something to do with number of town and cities in the US and the cost of rolling it out.

It's stupid I know
They don't have any unlimited cable broadband plans either and while the download is 100Mb/s , the upload is 2Mb/s , which is stupid.

Designed to stop people hosting servers on their home connection. Also huge cost saving.
Designed to stop people hosting servers on their home connection. Also huge cost saving.
Yet it seems in america they get 15Mb/s uploads. God Telstra are assholes.
Internode 4lyfe
There's nothing like finding out that you've gotten an extra hundred gigabytes on your datacap for free thanks to them upgrading their equipment.

Now we can rejoice in our excellent phone plans!

Suddenly my 10GB 21mbps "4G" doesn't feel so expensive at 20€ / month.
Suddenly my 10GB 21mbps "4G" doesn't feel so expensive at 20€ / month.
That cost $30AUD a month, that's way more value than what I'm getting right now and I'm paying $35 for 200mb with free text and $200 worth of call credit
(mind you the $5 is for the phone that I got off them but it's a complete shit box and I bought a nexus 4 instead)
I dunno about you guys but I'm on vaya (optus network) at the moment and some areas have terrible as shit reception. I get 4G occasionally but its far and few between.
I bought a $2 Telstra SIM to test their reception and it's 4G flipping everywhere. Even in places I was on 2G with optus.
Sigh, monopolies.

Telstra has had a super major advantage because they were Government owned for a long time so their towers back in the day as Telecom that were placed literally everywhere from Metropolitan, remote/bush Australia would get reception constantly
Optus on the other hand has never had that advantage, so if your in the metro zones, you're golden
In my suburb, there's a highway that takes you into the remote parts of Queensland and my Optus reception goes from 5 bars to dead 0 in a matter of seconds, my mum on the other hand whose provider uses Telstra towers gets a steady and constant 4 bar reception with 3G
But tbh Optus has never been that pressed about serving the remote parts of Australia, if you really want to use a mobile out there, you've got no choice but to go to Telstra

Isn't Scotland one giant mobile blackspot?

It's not so bad you know, I used to live in some "island" (even though there was a road directly to it) across from Gourock, and I did get 3g and good signal there.
Hell, on 3uk, I used to get HSPDA. But I got a Vodafone contract since I worked there.

I live on the mainland and where I live I get bare minimum signal 5% of the time in certain 'spots' I need to place my phone in the house. Ie near a window or on top of the fridge..
It's really terrible here!
Doesn't surprise me. From my experience, our mobile Internet is the modern version of 56k dial-up.
And even that was faster.
I can believe that. My phone when wifi is turned off is literally more than 10 times faster. Too bad I end up going over my cap if I use it too much.
