Hill's gonna be the one pissed off that his drum set was trashed, but I guess a skinny white drummer chasing you down is less terrifying than a shirtless skinny black dude with a thick beard, rage in his eyes, and a pentagram on his chest sprinting towards you.

but i know what i'm talking about
You're being absolutely typical though?
"OH MY GOD YOU UNCULTURED SWINE I WILL TEACH U ABOUT THE INTRICACIES OF HIP HOP THROUGH THE POWER OF INSULTS"

It's not very nice you feel?
wow sure is /mu/ in here
wow sure is people who are aware of popular music in here
I don't know that I'd call them "popular music".
If you guys hadn't noticed, pay attention the the ripped backdrop. If you can't see, here's a better view:

They didn't play because it was a tribute to this. Everyone got a refund in the end.
"Suicide note"
Is this an actual tribute or is it the beginning of a new ARG for their next album?
I don't know that I'd call them "popular music".
They played at coachella and were going to at lollapalooza and pitchfork posts about them weekly. they're popular music.
I don't know that I'd call them "popular music".
It's sort of hard to judge.
They aren't the type of music to get radio time, so you can't really judge them based on that.
They don't have an actual paid album out, so you can't judge them on sales.
They're big by any other standard. Generally positive album reviews, popularizing a pretty unique sound, attending big-name concerts, etc.
They have The Money Store out, you forget. And obv Death Grips isn't fucking Bieber popular.
using the word "dadrock" doesn't imply "giant nerd."
it's just that 90% of the people who hate hip-hop are the sorts of idiots who think Tupac was the only real rapper ever (even though they only listened to Hey Mama and Changes), and that Led Zeppelin and classic rock are the pinnacle of musical achievement.
it's not some personal insult, it's a generalization of the fuckwits I have to defend modern music against every single day.
But why do you feel the need to defend it in the first place? It's music taste, possibly the most subjective shit ever. Hey, I dislike hip hop in general and I do listen to my fair share of 'dadrock' but I don't feel the need to yell at someone when they tell me "pink floyd is dadrock and for faggots who wear fedoras", after all, not everyone needs music for "running or punching walls" or 2 hour long concept albums, everyone likes different stuff. if you're passionate about it, there are other more healthy ways to show your passion for a certain genre of music.

Totally forgot that EPs count. Apparently charted at 130, which isn't bad at all. They're not HUGE, but they're still charting with their debut album, which is big enough.
being passionate =/= being anal

I don't try to force people to like hip-hop. I know it's subjective, but the least people can do is actually know something about the art form before they dismiss it. I've dabbled in industrial and noise and all other sorts of really out-there genres that I'm not a huge fan of, but I do my best to educate myself about the music. I can appreciate it. People who go out and spout totally uneducated opinions about an artform, and then expect me to respect their opinions, are not going to receive that respect until they actually know about the artform.
I love pink floyd. I love dadrock. I don't think it's for people who wear fedoras at all. I just think that those stereotypical fedora-wearing dadrockers know absolutely nothing about hip-hop and make huge judgments about the genre without even trying to educate themselves about the artform. It's like the people on Facepunch who hate on modern art incessantly without knowing anything at all about the art. They just look like idiots, because they are idiots.
People don't need to like hip-hop, but the least they can do is put in enough effort to understand why people like it. That's the absolute bare minimum you can put into understanding an artform. I very much dislike several genres. I don't really like the trap subgenre of hip-hop at all, beyond Flockaveli. It's just not my style. But I don't go out and say "trap sucks so much how do you listen to this mongoloid shit it's so terrible." I understand why people like it. I can appreciate it.
The stereotypical dadrocker doesn't appreciate it, nor make any effort to understand it. That's the issue. You can despise it, but at least understand it. Judging books by their covers is a shitty thing to do.
I agree with you, on a side note...
It's like the people on Facepunch who hate on modern art incessantly without knowing anything at all about the art.
This. This is so so true. If you have no intention of trying to understand or inform yourself about a piece of art then you should definitely not voice your opinion at all because it'll be just that, an uninformed opinion. Sure, there's pretentious as fuck art out there (be it music, poetry, paintings) but it's a mistake to dismiss something because you are not willing to understand it.
Imagine when the Death Grips have to pick up the stuff they left behind, and they come back and their shit is gone.
threads about music outside of the music subforum ALWAYS end in disaster
discussing music only ever works when you all have the same opinions, because people can't fucking talk about music without getting retarded when someone disagrees

What are you waffling on about, many discussions have been had about music or film in a civil, positive manner.
Problems arise when people moan and preach.

Facepunch likes saying "everything's subjective" as if that nullifies any discussion about anything remotely related to opinion, even though it's pretty easy to discuss the objective facts about art stuff.
Experimental hip-hop duo. I'm not a huge fan but apparently they have a decent following, which makes it weird that they'd just not show up. Especially to Lollapalooza, which is usually good publicity.

Death Grips is a really weird experimental hip-hop group, basically. Made up of MC Ride, bearded ultraskinny exmilitary dude with a pentagram tattooed on his chest, and Zach Hill (drummer). They've popularized something that could be considered the "death metal" of hip-hop music. They're fucking awesome and make some fantastic music for exercise and for punching walls and tearing hair out.
uh, don't forget flatlander
it ain't a duo
Hill's gonna be the one pissed off that his drum set was trashed, but I guess a skinny white drummer chasing you down is less terrifying than a shirtless skinny black dude with a thick beard, rage in his eyes, and a pentagram on his chest sprinting towards you.

I'm not talking about the music, I'm talking about the incessent off topic arguing that which is what every thread on /mu/ devolves into

well referencing that, especially so vaguely, didn't help.
Right and those people are also tools.
the way most go about it makes them tools, but their opinions aren't the only thing you should use to justify them as tools

to be honest I don't think anyone who genuinely likes the group forgets about flatlander
especially after all of the arg shit involving his disappearance.
god this thread is going to hell fast
i don't care if you don't like death grips, that shit is my running music and it's some unique shit. Guillotine is a shitty example because it's their most hardcore shit possible. It's fucking amazing rage/exercise music, and it fills its niche absolutely flawlessly.

You can continue listening to dadrock and not liking it, that's fine with me, but don't come into a thread about Death Grips to intentionally shit on them because they're not your style of music. That's called being a cunt.
Am I watching a Youtube Poop?
Am I watching a Youtube Poop?
again?
you don't have to like it. just don't go out and tell people who like it that it's bad. try reading up on it and understanding why people like it before you rush into a thread and bash people's musical tastes for epic zingers. said this on the previous page.
people who like things that i dont like are tools
now where have i heard something similar to this
(hint hint, its very near to us!)
Protip: I was saying people that mindlessly bash beiber are tools, not his fans.
