Its sad to see such attention given to someone who made little to no direct contributions to computing as we know it. While I hate disrespecting a dead person like this I do wonder where is the statue for Dennis Ritchie who died only a few days before Steve Jobs and only got reported on twice; without this man we might very well be without one of the most fundamental programming languages which is used so heavily in software development. I know Dennis Ritchie had a Fredora and FreeBSD release dedicated to his honour but its just so fucking sad and depressing that he has not had more attention than Steve Jobs.
You are seriously delusional if you think Steve Jobs hasn't contributed to computing as we know it I know a lot of this forum is full of linux/windows loving, apple hating nerd culture but pretty much ever modern consumer-level computing standard we take for granted today is a result of apple in some form or another. Ever heard of something like a GUI? You know, what every computer past command line interfaces used? Guess what - apple was the first to successfully mass-market an operating system that used a GUI and was controlled with a mouse. The smartphone (as much as you guys hate iPhone) was also the first real smartphone put onto the market and its largely been game changing in how we perceieve personal computing. Apple may not have invented the computer, but they under steve jobs pretty much invented how we all use computers today. Software is just as important as hardware and Apple were kings of making landmark progress in that territory. Sure MS and various other companies caught up to Apple and (in my eyes) exceeded them, but they still were the main people behind those things. And steve back in the old apple days had a pretty strong role in leading development/vision for the company, even though he was more or less the figure head near the end of his life. But this is true with any company (Bill gates and microsoft, Gabe Newell and valve). It doesn't really deminish their contributions to the field any less. And no offense, but by and large something like inventing the modern GUI isn't any less impactful than the guy who invented C, especially when the invention of C largely doesn't affect most users of technology at all (technically, it could have been any other programming language to become huge) while the invention of the modern GUI is something everyone is impacted by. That said we all know the real reason why the guy who invented C didn't get a spotlight - he was an obscure programmer who wasn't really a figure head. Meanwhile everyone knew who jobs was and he was the figure head of a mega corportation for over 20 years.
The one looks like a penis lolol.
Why couldn't they just make a nice marble statue of a guy in dad jeans and a turtle neck sweater sitting on a park bench in California messing around with his iPad
This is downright insulting. I sure as hell would be.
Why couldn't they just make a nice marble statue of a guy in dad jeans and a turtle neck sweater sitting on a park bench in California messing around with his iPad
You need to think different.
When I die I want a bust of me on a giant robot. Such as that giant Gundam in Japan.
immortalized as such
Heh, I'm sorta reminded of this joke I once read: "It was reported that there were several thousand pounds of merchandise stolen from the local Apple store. Police say that both macs will be returned as soon as the culprits are found."
Sick dildo
a statue is supposed to capture a living moment forever in stone/iron/bronze for the future generations to get a glimpse of their personality
is it? oh i must have missed the official statue rulebook

I decided to take the image from the OP into my own hands
He got as much as he deserved I guess
Some people might argue that Steve Jobs was nothing but an "ideas guy" and businessman. And while that is true to some extent, even "ideas guys" are needed, and Steve saw uses in things basically no-one else believed in. Without him, there's a fairly big chance computers would still only be used by companies, governments, and obscure groups of "nerds", with the norm of them being designed around terminal-mainframe systems. With that said, I do think it's sad that other very important people, such as Dennis Ritchie, an actual software engineer, basically gets forgotten. Another person extremely important to today's computerised society, which relatively few people know about, is Alan Turing, a great mathematician / logician, and general genius, who made it possible for the Allies during World War II to decrypt the Nazi's encrypted communication, and who for example also "invented" the Turing Machine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_machine), as well as actually inventing the ACE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Computing_Engine). However, his government (Great Britain) turned against him once it surfaced that he was homosexual, which caused him to commit suicide.
That is probably the worst 'statue' I've ever seen like seriously I doubt that's like someone took a regular bust and brought a flamethrower to it
And no offense, but by and large something like inventing the modern GUI isn't any less impactful than the guy who invented C, especially when the invention of C largely doesn't affect most users of technology at all
Actually, I think it does affect a lot of users of technology.
Looks really low quality.
Yes but the producer made a fortune so in a way it's exactly like Apple products.
You are seriously delusional if you think Steve Jobs hasn't contributed to computing as we know it I know a lot of this forum is full of linux/windows loving, apple hating nerd culture but pretty much ever modern consumer-level computing standard we take for granted today is a result of apple in some form or another. I'm not delusional (harsh) although I may have gotten ahead of myself when saying he did not contribute anything. I'm not a Linux/windows nerd that likes to hate Apple; I consider myself to be a BSD/Linux nerd that likes to hate Ubuntu (most days). The GUI was actually first created and marketed by Xerox (Xerox Star) and was also controlled by a mouse; although not as successful but was significant and impactful.
The smartphone (as much as you guys hate iPhone) was also the first real smartphone put onto the market and its largely been game changing in how we perceieve personal computing.
Your right the iPhone was one of Apples greatest contributions although they were not the first in that market (IBM Simon, Nokia 9000, Kyocera 6035).
Apple may not have invented the computer, but they under steve jobs pretty much invented how we all use computers today.
And steve back in the old apple days had a pretty strong role in leading development/vision for the company, even though he was more or less the figure head near the end of his life. Some of the most heavily used languages in development are based on C such as PHP (Web Development), JavaScript (Web Development), C++ (derivative of C, used in kernel development and more), and more (Go, D, C#, Java). To say Dennis Richie (was well known in and out of his field) was some obscure scientist (he was not just a programmer) is disrespectful and goes to show how little you are aware of how his work has impacted the way we live and the way our computers work. It simply could not of being another language as there is far too many which we heavily use today that are based on and influenced by it.
You call that a memorial statue? Jobs must be spinning in his grave.
looks like they just took a bust of him and welded it to a pillar of steel, then realised that wasn't enough seriously go make an actual classy statue [editline]27th February 2014[/editline] [t]http://www.teslasociety.com/pictures/victoria/npic15.jpg[/t] what ever happened to reasonable statues like this
Ahaha, i love that statue, same as the guy on it.. wearing a t-shirt i made of the design :)

Deidara does not approve
Looks like something from The Thing movie.
This statue appropriately memorializes Steve Jobs as what he truly was. A gigantic piece of rubbish. I'm not just saying this to be a dick either. Steve Jobs was a massive asshole to his employees and other people in general, glad he's gone.

I didn't like Steve Jobs but this is just horrible. I know art is subjective but come on.
I imagine a picture of that statute appears when you unlock your iphone, just like the John Romero head at the end of Doom : [t]http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090214021534/doom/images/a/a0/Romero_head.PNG[/t]
I wonder if they payed lodes of money for this to be commissioned. Truly an homage to Apple and it's business practices.

Is that thing sticking out at the top supposed to be an € sign to represent the huge amount of money he made?
If I would somehow end up getting famous to the point I deserve a statue I'd totally ask for a gigantic statue of dickbutt.
