Well my eyes show me that all fat people go to the gym every day and eat lots of salads. Prove I'm wrong. No, the common denominator is that most fat people don't give a shit. If they can live their life as well as they want to they want to, then everything is absolutely fine. You're a self-righteous asshole, and many people would consider that to also be a negative quality, but you don't change because you don't give a shit. See the parallels? It's nobody's business but your own what you do with your body (or what kind of personality you have) as long as you're not hurting other people. Late or Bad Spelling? Make the call. [editline]06:41PM[/editline] If someone loses their legs in an industrial accident, could that be considered "entering a state of physicality of their own accord"? They could have been more careful, after all.
Are you fat? You're awfully defensive of fat people.
No. Fat people can be healthy if they work at it. That man isn't gonna grow his legs back no matter how hard he tries.
He can grow prosthetic ones, though.
It's not like the fat people this article is talking about are just a few points over normal BMI range, they're probably terribly obese and that would get in the way of almost any normal job so what's the problem?
Then these people are making false accusations. As an employer, you have the right to refuse to hire anyone who is incapable of doing the job properly.
It pisses me off when you see a fat person eating at a fast food joint and ordering the largest fattiest bacon shit patty burger there is. It really isn't hard to be healthy fat people. I would rather run everyday and go on a diet then die at 45 because I was 500 pounds and still going. What really angers me is that going to the gym is the best damn drug out there. You feel results right away and once the soreness goes away you feel like a god.
You feel results right away and once the soreness goes away you feel like a god.
Huh I feel like a big noodle.
Have a separate entrance for new hires. Make sure that entrance is very narrow. Problem solved...
Actually, some people (SOME) are born fat and can't help it. But yeah, physical fitness isn't exactly an unfair way to judge somebody. Besides, do you really expect people to just drop the old stigma of obesity? Pfft. Fat chance.
This is how puns work people, learn it.

I don't get how some people get so fat. I like walking around town and my fat friends do too. It's like the easiest thing you can do short of exercising.
No. Fat people can be healthy if they work at it. That man isn't gonna grow his legs back no matter how hard he tries.
Maybe that guy should have thought about that before he operated industrial machinery in an unsafe manner. You're picking and choosing what you think should be a legit disability based on arbitrary hatred of certain groups of people.
Are you fat? You're awfully defensive of fat people.
What I am matters less than the content of my argument. For the record I'm also defensive of gays, racial minorities, the physically/mentally handicapped, and smokers/drinkers/drug users in most situations. You can dig around in my previous posts to figure out which ones of these I am.
You are a fat, gay, black, and retarded smoker.
Looks like the jig is up
Looks like the jig is up
Always knew there was something unexplainable about you. On a serious note, for the most part, you are right.
In order to get welfare for being too fat to work I suggest instead of getting a handicapped parking pass, you get a special one that requires you to park at the BACK of the lot.
That is one of the best ideas I have heard all day. Have a check mark.

Sure it's not my business to make sure you give a shit either, but if you've reached the point where your obesity gets in the way of you doing a job ("getting discriminated") then maybe it's you that has a problem and need to change, not the rest of the world. That violent reaction was amusing, wonder if someone feels targeted :fuckyou:
That violent reaction was amusing, wonder if someone feels targeted :fuckyou:
"You're fat. Your argument is invalid."
It's not like it's difficult to lose weight, if you're fat enough to be classed as obese, losing weight is if anything more rapid than those who are simply a little portly. Also in conclusion, you are a gay ethnic paraplegic retard with a heroin and nicotine addiction, as well as being an alcoholic. Seems to me to be faster than looking up potentially hundreds of past posts no? [editline]11:28AM[/editline] Actually, I forgot to put fat in that, sorry, would have been off topic otherwise

OH SORRY I FELL INTO A CAKE ONO I'M FAT unbelievable that you would lump people have had their lives ruined because of a single incident to those who don't have self-restraint. Being fat due to medical reasons? That's fine, it's inescapable. Otherwise, no.
That's how the cookie crumbles.

The problem is that the vast majority of Facepunch thinks that nobody can ever be fat due to medical reasons and it's all their own fault for "falling into a cake".
I think the definition of "medical condition" is on vastly unequal ground here...
Neither one of us is qualified to say what a medical condition is. So it's better not to judge at this point.
Neither one of us is qualified to say what a medical condition is. So it's better not to judge at this point.
A disease/disorder that affects the metabolism of the body qualifies as one. Simple lack of self-restraint doesn't.
A disease/disorder that affects the metabolism of the body qualifies as one. Simple lack of self-restraint doesn't.
What about a medical condition that results in a lack of constraint? :v:
What about a medical condition that results in a lack of constraint? :v:
Then we have an issue :v:
Schizophrenics are the new fat people? I say good chaps that is odd. Especially considering I'm from the 1700's and shouldn't know any of this.
Then it's never fine because all people have muscle. Face it, BMI is the worst way to measure body weight/fitness. There are muscle bound men that range in the area that most people call obese because it doesn't take into account anything but height and weight. It's the fucking worst way of going about health/fitness from that perspective.
Anyone who takes it as a pin-point indicator of good health / weight, yes, they're wrong, but it's still a helpful tool - comparing your height and mass (including everything, bone, muscle, tissues, fat) and assessing that, assuming you AREN'T packed with additional muscle , it is normal / average. There's NO DOUBT that if you look like this LINK, your BMI will be high on the chart and is correct, obese. I'd say it'd be correct for this lady to LINK, even though she is not OBESE, yes, she'd probably appear on the BMI chart as OVERWEIGHT. Which is obvious, to me it isn't unsightly, but she's no slim lined chick. But anyway, being "born" fat has got to be pretty rare, sure, people can be born slightly bigger - I don't have the skinniest thighs, wrists or ankles for example, but I'm still a healthy weight (whereas someone smaller built would be unhealthy at my weight), it's all proportional. But FAT people, are obviously fat and yes, it IS a personal responsibility, but that doesn't mean you have to tackle it yourself, get help, lose the pounds, and people will respect you for THAT, and you'll respect yourself, and likely have more energy, enthusiasm and drive to do other things based on this accomplishment. I think that, generally, obesity IS laziness and gluttony, not a few extra lbs from eating more chocolate because you feel shit, or the old metabolism isn't working how it used to, that doesn't make you OBESE, you need to eat all kinds of shit and do virtually nothing to get that size.
I agree, if you're going to work a desk job how is your weight going to affect your work directly? I mean, I sure as hell wouldn't want a fat fireman to drag me out of a building, but for most jobs it is just plain wrong.
Take into account space and safety - is this person able to move to the exit or swiftly up and down stairs in case of a fire / other emergency? Do they exceed the size of some of the doors? What about small apartments in the office? Can they fit in their cubicle? Do they need a specialised seat? etc. there's things to consider.

There's no excuse for being fat.
I’ve sat in meetings with colleagues who wouldn’t dream of disparaging anyone’s color, sex, economic status or general attractiveness, yet feel free to comment witheringly on a person’s weight.
She seems to have forgotten that you can't control those things, but you can control weather you're fat or not. Don't bring up the old "metabolism" or "born fat" argument, it's junk. There are 100 year old people who go for jogs every day and eat right all the time.
