• Wolfenstein: The New Order developers recommend a second playthrough
Machine Games say that it’s worth firing up Wolfenstein: The New Order again once you’re finished, because an early choice made in the game will change things later down the line. “This game is exclusive single-player, but we’ve built in lots of replay value,” said Creative Director Jens Matthies on Reddit. “Most notably is that the player makes a choice early on the outcome of which opens up an alternate time line which changes the vibe of the story. It’s recommended to do a second play through and see what would have happened if you chose differently. “I don’t want to give any spoilers, but it changes the vibe of the story to a degree and alters the gameplay somewhat. We think of it as an alternate ending, but instead of it just affecting the final cinematic, it affects the tone of the whole game a little bit.”
http://games.on.net/2014/05/wolfenstein-the-new-order-developers-recommend-a-second-playthrough/
Well all my favorite games I've played 2-3 times.
, but instead of it just affecting the final cinematic
Zing
last game to do this was blops 2. And I still think that was one of the best SP FPS in a while just because all the stuff you can do to change the timeline completely.
Of course they said that, no developer is going to go "Oh god no don't play our game a second time around, its terrible after the first playthrough"
Of course they said that, no developer is going to go "Oh god no don't play our game a second time around, its terrible after the first playthrough"
I think David Cage actually did say that once. [editline]13th May 2014[/editline] Granted it was only because he knew people would realise that the "choices" in his "games" don't change jack shit if they played them more than once.
Over glorified buzzwords.
last game to do this was blops 2. And I still think that was one of the best SP FPS in a while just because all the stuff you can do to change the timeline completely.
What changes in blops?
What changes in blops?
characters killing other characters if you saved or killed them. failed objectives lead to maybe bonus missions or dialogue changes. characters mostly keep their battle scars from you fucking up. characters can be completely killed off midway through the game or saved. loads of shit [sp]hell i didnt even know you can save yourself from shooting mason in the head as woods by shooting out both of his knees because they don't tell you at all[/sp]. And they log everything for you after a mission to tell you the timeline. really REALLY was a massive step up compared to the other CODs SP wise, not to mention the story was really interesting just like blops 1. loads of twists and turns through out the whole campaign.
Then make it fun enough to warrant a second play. Fallout: New Vegas, CoD4, HL2 are all games that have been fun enough for me to play them again, so it's definitely not impossible.
[sp]hell i didnt even know you can save yourself from shooting mason in the head as woods by shooting out both of his knees because they don't tell you at all[/sp]. It's so ridiculous when you're given "DO X AND X HAPPENS OR DO Y AND Y HAPPENS U DECIDE" shtick, they should let you choose without enforcing it and not tell you that there was indeed another way of doing it, so it does not influence your decision as a player or break immersion.
last game to do this was blops 2. I just didn't like that I had to not only bust my ass, but sacrifice my favorite characters [sp]WHY HARPER WHY!?[/sp] to see the "good" ending.
Zing
It effects the story not just the ending
It effects the story not just the ending
Yes. That's the point. Remember Mass Effect?
So its a little like The Stanley Parable
Most notably is that the player makes a choice early on the outcome of which opens up an alternate time line
kinda noticed this in the first playthrough, when they chose to save the commander instead of the other dude [editline]13th May 2014[/editline]
So its a little like The Stanley Parable
no, just watching the twitch stream, there will probably be some scenes where you choose for a specific person to live or die, or smaller spots where your actions will determine some responses, since the game takes place over a long time period these early choices in the early levels can have bigger ramifications to the later game
Yes. That's the point. Remember Mass Effect?
All because Bioware fucked it up doesn't mean MachineGames will.
The article says "opens up an alternate time line" I think he combined two statements there, the Dev said 'explore the alternate timeline' earlier, which he meant the games world.

I never picked up another Call of Duty since Modern Warfare 3. I've been missing out. [editline]8:04PM[/editline] OK thanks Activision it's still 60€.

Though the pricing of CoD games is an instant turn-off in general.
So does this timeline choice just replace Nazis with robots or something or will the tone change significantly affect the game? Theyre talking about all this innovation but the game play they've shown doesnt really lead me to believe that it'll be as good as they're saying it is.
