How the fuck are you guys in this thread acting like this is an acceptable piece of clothing
I know someone who owns a bright pink and green beanie that says "Slut". There's a difference between poor taste (like the hat/this shirt) and something that's going out of its way to be offensive.
How the fuck are you guys in this thread acting like this is an acceptable piece of clothing
Because our rights are more important than some woman being offended
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaka_sign "Hang loose" is a surfing term.
OH so it's almost kinda a pun on a good gesture which is apparently very positive in nature and that's problematic because people get hanged I... get it [editline]18th March 2015[/editline]
How the fuck are you guys in this thread acting like this is an acceptable piece of clothing
how is it not?
Because our rights are more important than some woman being offended
That's fine and all but you guys are acting as if this shirt isn't totally fucked up
Despite however you think the racial connotations of that are, why would a chain even think carrying a design like that in a modern world with social media be a good idea?
That's fine and all but you guys are acting as if this shirt isn't totally fucked up
It's really not that bad. It's a picture of a noose with a silly pun. A game of hangman is arguably more offensive.
Because apparently black people are the only ones who have ever, in the history of humanity, been hanged.
imagine if french people were a different color, like purple or something, then gulliotines would be OMG RACIST or something to these people
What's the difference between TJ Maxx and TK Maxx stores? [SP]Minus the change of letter[/SP] EDIT: Oh it was to avoid confusion with another UK store.
Apparently you can still get hung in Washington and New Hampshire as a form of capital punishment. And the most recent hanging as a form of capital punishment was in 1996. Didn't know it was still used.
Long rope hanging is a fairly effective way of quick execution. Just drop 'em and their neck will snap. Short rope, on the other hand, is terrible.
Can we just like clone the earth and name it planet give a fuck and every time someone bitches about something stupid or goes over the top just give them a one way ticket?
It is okay, though. Freedom of expression doesn't care about your perception of morality.
Freedom of expression stops the government from banning the shirt, the people are perfectly allowed to be angry.
Freedom of expression stops the government from banning the shirt, the people are perfectly allowed to be angry.
Yeah but that doesn't mean their reason for being so is necessarily valid.
[t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CAQjZxyUMAAOums.jpg:large[/t]
Who at the company's marketing department thought it would be a good idea to sell this? It's tacky as hell.
I don't see the big deal at all, the whole suicide visual metaphor stuff has been the standard for emo/goth kid shirts for forever, i was wearing edgy crap like this when i was 13.
First thing to come to mind was maybe this chick lost someone to suicide by hanging, that, I can understand. But... Racism? Get a fucking grip.

Sorry that YOU'RE offended
I don't know if it's already been said but most companies that sell clothing retail like this have no idea what they're being sold. I work at Burlington for example and they'll basically just get blind boxes full of shirts and junk and that gets sent to the DC and than gets sent to stores. No one screens them or anything. If something is provocative than it's taken off the floor or doesn't leave receiving. In all likelyhood TJ Maxx is the same and just got a blind box of shirts, put them out without looking at them and were unlucky enough to have a customer notice how iffy this shirt was before an employee did and pulled it.

Sorry that YOU'RE offended
Jumping in late, but these, I don't have a problem, and wouldn't ever think "you shouldn't have those on sale." However, that's just a website, and as far as I know, doesn't really have any retail stores. This is a tshirt put on display in a popular retail store, endorsing suicide. I can absolutely understand why some people would say "yeah, you should probably get rid of that."
I am struggling to figure how can this offend anybody in particular I thought it might be a play on the word "loose"? as in morally/sexually loose people? loose... loser? goose? the fact it might be racist just didn't cross my mind whatsoever I am willing to bet somebody got hanged in the USA before the first black slaves arrived to the continent at all. Hell, I don't know how these interactions went, but I wouldn't be surprised if whites haven't been hanging each other for quite a while before they have encountered Africans at all.
I'm not down with the idea of 'being offended' by something - it's such a broad term tbh I've had friends who have tried to commit suicide in this way, and there's nothing more terrifying than getting that phone call and being too far away to do anything about it so I'd rather not be reminded of it and I imagine now my friend has moved on from that period of his life, he'd rather not be reminded of it but that's just me
How the fuck are you guys in this thread acting like this is an acceptable piece of clothing
Its a cool shirt
I'd wear it. With a hoodie over it.

The media has been trying really hard to divide and distract Americans from the real problems of the world. Oh look a shirt with a noose on it pretty convenient that some black guy is killed or suicided this shirt just plays into the black victim card. Pysco girlfriend also was pushing the gold white blue dress crap. She's either really dumb and didnt realize people were changing the pictures. I think she is just a talentless cunt whose only job she could land is to offer discount codes on online clothing. (User was permabanned for this post ("gimmick" - dai))
Well technically if the noose is hanging loose then that means nobody is hanging from it. Wouldn't this be a message that hanging people is wrong and the only way a noose should hang is loose?
