Just remember that a Republican, Mitt Romney, invented socialized healthcare and then enacted it in his home state of MA. But again, since now its on a national level, "oh no, this is so bad"
Actually, the Soviet Union invented universal healthcare, like 70 years ago. And then a bunch of other countries also implemented it.
Actually, the Soviet Union invented universal healthcare, like 70 years ago. And then a bunch of other countries also implemented it.
*** in the US
"The fee in 2014 is 1% of your yearly income or $95 per person for the year, whichever is higher." oh wow 1 percent
Actually, the Soviet Union invented universal healthcare, like 70 years ago. And then a bunch of other countries also implemented it.
I thought the Chinese were the first ones to have health care, but in ancient times.
Also, everyones rates will rise for a few, and then will start dropping once everyone has healthcare.
John Green did a video comparing registering online with Obamacare and registering with a private provider. He had a better experience with the government. Thats one provider but it still says alot.
Yeah, but without the really bad GIF of a rotating disco ball and funny messages.
I preferred the old picture of the angry guy in the america shirt. I still don't know what that picture was about
"The fee in 2014 is 1% of your yearly income or $95 per person for the year, whichever is higher." oh wow 1 percent
Its only a smudge higher than my rent. 1% is nothing, right? [editline]17th October 2013[/editline] Oh and instead of getting evicted for not paying, you go to jail.
I preferred the old picture of the angry guy in the america shirt. I still don't know what that picture was about
I think it was a woman, actually
What I don't understand is why there is a part in the healthcare law saying that my father has to pay a tax on the amount his work spends to give him his "Cadillac plan". How is that helping us have affordable healthcare?
I think it was a woman, actually
doesn't look like a woman to me
Honestly, now I'm just not sure either way :v:
The video mentioned on the previous page. Also, whilst America really should just go full on universal healthcare; I think rising premiums are a small price to pay for allowing everyone to get coverage. The idea that serious illnesses mean that you have to bankrupt yourself to get healthcare, or just die, is barbaric.
Oh and instead of getting evicted for not paying, you go to jail.
No you don't.
I think it was a woman, actually
I think it was a Hutt.
No you don't. I think it was a Hutt.
Then what incentive is there to pay at all if I can just ignore the fine.
Then what incentive is there to pay at all if I can just ignore the fine.
knowing our system I'd wager "late fees" on the fine that compound interest over time and eventually lead to debt collectors and negative impact on your credit rating or something
As far as I can tell you don't actually pay the fine, you lose it from your tax refund.
knowing our system I'd wager "late fees" on the fine that compound interest over time and eventually lead to debt collectors and negative impact on your credit rating
So I don't get jailed, but instead I get to start my credit score with negatives, which screws me over in the long run. Yay. Good thing I have until January.
"The fee in 2014 is 1% of your yearly income or $95 per person for the year, whichever is higher." oh wow 1 percent
1% is a lot of money to pay to get absolutely nothing. Guess I'm going to have to pay a flat fee to get nothing. I see why Republicans didn't want this to pass.
Then what incentive is there to pay at all if I can just ignore the fine.
It will come out of your tax returns. If your tax returns don't cover the penalty for any reason then it begins accumulating yearly interest but there is nothing the IRS can do to actually appropriate the principle or interest. Section 1501 of the Affordable Care Act reads
"Such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure."

knowing our system I'd wager "late fees" on the fine that compound interest over time and eventually lead to debt collectors and negative impact on your credit rating or something
It's no different from not paying any other tax other than the fact that you can't be prosecuted for not paying the tax. [editline]17th October 2013[/editline] Actually the individual mandate penalty might not even qualify for accumulating interest. American tax code is confusing.
Yeah, but without the really bad GIF of a rotating disco ball and funny messages.
We should get someone to tell him to use facepunch's site down page "what's a facepunch"
Just remember that a Republican, Mitt Romney, invented socialized healthcare and then enacted it in his home state of MA. But again, since now its on a national level, "oh no, this is so bad"
Remember that the original ACA was derived from (if not a complete resurrection of) a healthcare bill the Republicans themselves put on the table during the Clinton administration, and then when Obama proposed it, the Republicans nerfed the ever loving fuck out of it until we got this.
I work next to what is now the HQ building for a company called "American Eagle", which is entirely unrelated to trendy pants. They're a major web dev firm, and tout the fact that they constantly make pages for the government, including the white house home page. I wonder if they're to blame, heh. the company I work for spent nearly 20k on their old website and from what I understand, the website and the customer service were absolutely horrid
It's likely true, but only because insurance companies are doing all they can to destroy Obamacare because now they can't screw people over for having e.g. pre-existing conditions.
How can anyone form a coherent thought at this level of delusion? Yeah, its the insurance companies. Its not politicians and corporations working together to get rich at the expense of people. Government can never be the enabler. No, its insurance companies.

They developed and use their own Javascript-derived language, which has no oop, and no multi-file support. They developed and use their own intranet (which everyone has admin access to), they developed and use their own mail client AND PROTOCOL internally, not sure how they communicate with the outside world. They developed their own IDE for their Javascript-like language. These are just the things I can remember, it's pretty crazy. Their HTML5 and css knowledge is exquisite though!
Yes but its more secure now that no one knows whats going on! :v:
My mate said that now he's used to it it isn't that bad. It increases productivity because it all works exactly as they use it or some marketing crap like that.
Really? All it did for me since it was enacted is increase my premiums over a 6 month period 104.7% (from $127 to $260 a month.) I've had the policy since 2005 and before the ACA went into effect, it would only increase once a year, and only by 2-8%; Mostly due to adjusting for inflation. Oh and when the "acceptable policy" provision went into effect just recently, I've been informed my policy will be cancelled on December 31st. The sole reason it will be cancelled is because my policy doesn't have free yearly checkups with my doctor. But I really didn't care about that because it was only a $15 copay. GG Obama for hiking my insurance over 100% and then taking it away. But it's not finished yet. Getting a new plan that falls under the "acceptable policy" that has the exact same coverage options as my current plan has from any insurance carrier starts out at $350 a month, or a 34.6% increase on my current plan. And I don't qualify for any of these "Tax Credits" that are supposed to make it cheaper. So GG again Obama for taking away my health coverage, which I really have needed these past several months due to having both of my legs crushed in a construction accident and doing shit all to replace it. Also thanks for the 139.4% increase in my insurance costs for no reason.
You're not the only one... Too bad every time this argument is brought up, we're dismissed as "crazy right wingers who want the us economy to tank"
