• 'Black Boxes' to monitor all internet and phone data

Go ahead and look at my browsing history. I dare you.
This isn't going to be done. Do you realize that they try to put this shit in laws all the time and it never flies because it's unconstitutional. And it's not a "black box". They just want ISPs to store data for a year.
They will spend a few years trying to implement this before giving up [editline]30th June 2012[/editline]
This isn't going to be done. THANKS GOVERNMENT THATS WHAT I WANTED MY MONEY SPENT ON FOR SURE FUCK THE POOR HOMELESS KIDS OR DRUG ADDICTS THAT NEED HELP & REHABILITATION, CENSORING THE INTERNET IS FAR MORE IMPORTANT!
There's no way this shit is legal.
Of course it isn't which is why its part of a proposed law.

Not some sort of government monolith.
bam. there goes durgs discussion
This isnt how things work If they intercepted the traffic on a HTTPS connection your browser will flip a fucking shit, how are they planning to do this
So I suppose cryptoanarchy will really go up now?

If I'm not mistaken, doesn't HTTPS/SSL use an encryption method where only the public key used by the website in question is the only key that is capable of decryption? This public key is normally a certificate issued by a Root CA and only that site can use the key/cert. Current SSL methods are extremely difficult to perform decryption without a dedicated system for one key, even then it would take quite a long time for even a sufficiently powerful computer farm to undertake decryption. Basically, the Gov has no idea how encryption works. (Christ, the college course over Server 2008 has more or less burned this stuff into my brain @_@)
no fucking way. allow me to re-iterate
Don't you have a constitution? Isn't unwarranted search and seizure illegal?
Our "constitution" is spread out in many many documents spaced hundreds of years apart, it's not in a centralized document. The weaknesses of this system are pretty obvious.
the biggest weakness being that unconstitutional isn't a term that exists in the UK legal system.

I am completely retarded when it comes to things like this so help me on this one: has this actually happened or is it being decided?
Everybody include furry porn in your email's
Is it bad if I'm already ahead?
Is it bad if I'm already ahead?
No in fact it's better
just take a stroll down to voremeplz's gore thread and im sure they wont even want to monitor you.
This is fucking bullshit.
Most retarded idea I've ever heard, luckily for us it's virtually impossible to do technically.
I've heard that they'll be using something like sslstrip on those black boxes, so SSL traffic can still be attacked with MITM. That's bad.
good to know that we live in a free country
It's not really clear, but I imagine it would be quite similar to what Austria has. For instance ISPs have to save which IP was used by which user in the last 6 months (if they use dynamic IPs) or who phoned/mailed/texted who, but they must not save the content of the mails, calls, texts, etc. This German article explains it very well: http://derstandard.at/1332324071119/Wissen-Vorratsdaten-Was-wird-gespeichert And this is already in effect and apparently technically feasible, but still stupid since it obviously can't log stuff like encrypted mails and is a huge violation of privacy. I'd rather have cameras in public places than logs in private communication tbh.
Just when I thought I couldn't hate black boxes anymore... those mother fuckers.
time for me to get on my internet anonymity shit
It would be funny if on day one, it got flooded and the black box thingy crapped out.
