it's a strawman because it was a pointed question, he doesn't support isolation in terms of prison where inmates are forced into empty padded rooms for 23 hours a day

He's just not all up for isolated him from the rest of the prison, which is an understandable endeavor since it'll be torture for him, though I guess it's better since otherwise he'll probably be killed.
What you did is you took his little opinion that was meant only to apply to prison and blew it up to somehow cover everything in the real world.
