Manslaughter is carelessly killing a man. It's not manslaughter when a doctor prescribes a drug that may cure the patient but it doesn't is it? Prayer was the prescription, and it didn't do the job. And he honestly and truly believed it would.
This is so laughably bad a metaphor that I do believe I will laugh at it: Ha. Also, believing you're going about things the right way does not absolve you of the accidental killing of a child.
Actually let's pool this together... Until the 1700s most cultures depended on god as their main source of infrastructure. Which makes it something. You've got alot more than a single point to tally there. For the record I'm agnostic. I don't give a fuck about Atheism or Religion to hold an opinion. You're all douchebags for fighting about it.
But you're not a douche for fighting about it? You aren't above anything here despite acting like it.
...Holy fuck. Stalin also didn't use athiesm as an excuse to kill people. He used his own power grasp for that. Guess who else does that? The pope(Crusades era and after). Name a leader that's openly athiest besides Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot(Also, none of those wars were rallied behind god, and had no religious bindings, often were political/nationalist, and ethnic reasons. As strong feelings as relgion. Learn history before arguing this shit.
No but he did just as bad as any religion has done while being an athiest. Religion makes no difference in the occurance of wars and violence in man. You need to get to learn your science, boy.

We fight about it because it's an important world issue that greatly affects the quality of life for billions of people.
But you're not a douche for fighting about it? You aren't above anything here despite acting like it.
I'm a douche for protecting a completely outspoken side of an argument from a bunch of kids who don't have anything better to do than flaunt their atheism? So be it.
No but he did just as bad as any religion has done while being an athiest. Religion makes no difference in the occurance of wars and violence in man. You need to get to learn your science, boy.
The pope: Had power due to religion. Stalin: Had power not due to atheism. Any questions?
I live in wisconsin and read about this in the paper a few months ago when it happened. I facepalmed hard. There were some letters to the editor talking about whether they thought they should be prosecuted or not, freedom of religion and all that.
I'm a douche for protecting a completely outspoken side of an argument from a bunch of kids who don't have anything better to do than flaunt their atheism? So be it.
I'm flaunting my athiesm because religion is an out dated relic that people shouldn't believe in based purely on faith, which is another stupid concept.
No but he did just as bad as any religion has done while being an athiest. Religion makes no difference in the occurance of wars and violence in man. One of these phrases has probably never been spoken seriously.
I'm a douche for protecting a completely outspoken side of an argument from a bunch of kids who don't have anything better to do than flaunt their atheism? So be it.
Outspoken because it's indefensible. Also, I'm not a kid, and I have much better things to do than argue with you over the Internet.
The pope: Had power due to religion. Stalin: Had power not due to atheism. Any questions?
The Pope: Had power due to religion. Stalin: Got the same power without the influence of religion. Any questions? You don't need religion to make excuses for killing off disgusting amounts of people.
Outspoken because it's indefensible. Also, I'm not a kid, and I have much better things to do than argue with you over the Internet.
Than go do it.
At least he knows he'll be going to Hell since he'll engage in acts the Bible condemns in prison with his cell mate, bubba!

You need to get to learn your science, boy.
How's that science....? That's not. The point is that he did it, and had support because people WERE AFRAID OF HIM. He was god to them, he was everything, and he was the most powerful person alive at the time. People joined his cause in fear of death. People join holy wars because they want to serve their god, and their church.
Than go do it.
you too you can't win this

It's been proven that greed and pride are both traits that are in us at an instinctual level. Those are the two main causes of wars.
The Pope: Had power due to religion. Stalin: Got the same power without the influence of religion. Any questions? The pope had more power than he did, he had a larger reach. He had divine power. If you were comparing Mao for instance, he too had divine power(Right of the ruler) but stalin is not in the same boat.
Outspoken because it's indefensible. Also, I'm not a kid, and I have much better things to do than argue with you over the Internet.
It's 2AM and I'm pretty bored.
In 1000 years I bet the civilized world will be predominantly atheist.
It's 2AM and I'm pretty bored.
It's 2AM and I have work tomorrow.
It is, it's the way we work. The way we think. It's been proven that greed and pride are both traits that are in us at an instinctual level. And no, you can't prove those traits are human nature, you can prove their soceital, but not human. There are societies devoid of greed. You can't argue that Greed is species wide.

The pope had a loose at best grip on most nations during his time, Stalin had a huge army, and they were a pretty dedicated fanbase too.
It's 2AM and I have work tomorrow.
I couldn't get a job this summer. I was disappointed.
I know for sure that fear is a bigger effect than that of Pride or Greed. [editline]10:58PM[/editline]
Really? The pope had a loose at best grip on most nations during his time, Stalin had a huge army, and they were a pretty dedicated fanbase too.
Depends which pope in which era. The pope had pull on the leaders, the leaders had pull on the nobles, the nobles drew in everyone else.
I couldn't get a job this summer. I was disappointed.
Same. Damn economy. I'll just pray to God for huge amounts of money and he'll give it to me because i prayed :downs:
I know for sure that fear is a bigger effect than that of Pride or Greed.
To be fair, both stalin and the pope used fear. Do what god says or go to hell. Do what I say or you don't wake up tomorrow.
To be fair, both stalin and the pope used fear. Do what god says or go to hell. Do what I say or you don't wake up tomorrow.
Good point.
Really? The pope had a loose at best grip on most nations during his time, Stalin had a huge army, and they were a pretty dedicated fanbase too.
The Pope was at odds with plenty of leaders of nations, but you can bet when he said, "Hey motherfuckers, this bit of sand said Christians suck," people came a-runnin' from all the fuck over.
I know for sure that fear is a bigger effect than that of Pride or Greed. [editline]10:58PM[/editline] Depends which pope in which era.
No, because those with greed and pride are the ones who end up in power. Stalin, Hitler, etc. those are the kind of men that cause wars. Charismatic greedy people. It's funny, apparently God fucks people up. But evolution fucked us up with Hitler and Stalin pretty bad. [editline]02:00AM[/editline] But hell isn't an actual place remember guys you said so? So he's giving them an imaginary punishment, so it was the people's fault right? For believing that shit?
No, because those with greed and pride are the ones who end up in power. Stalin, Hitler, etc. those are the kind of men that cause wars. Charismatic greedy people. It's funny, apparently God fucks people up. But evolution fucked us up with Hitler and Stalin pretty bad.
On the contrary, god is a product of evolution. An out dated explanation humanity made up, when we started asking questions about the nature of the universe.
