SHOCKING: Million volt stun guns easily acquirable in the UK
Wait, what? Stun guns and pepper spray are illegal there? Pepper spray is pretty ineffective unless its the military/police type....
As for stun guns.... Depending on the type they work fairly well and are mostly safe (usually carried by minors and gun adverse ppl)
Fine, I'll concede stun guns can be lethal- but pepper spray? It's only going to be lethal (or otherwise cause permanent damage) if you spray a lot directly down someone's throat.
I don't think you've ever been sprayed with pepper spray (not that you should be), but believe me, even the cheap stuff can easily incapacitate you.
Need enough current in order for the voltage to kill you. A guy messing around with a capacitor on LMAO pics learnt that the hard way
I've seen shock knuckle dusters.
The product information suggests using two at once for home defence.
why
The zap you get from static electricity is a few hundred thousand volts.

Maybe it's different elsewhere but in America pepper spray (which is OC gas) is not very potent and the containers are not large with a relatively short spray distance. This , of course varies by manufacturer with ones advertised as bear repellents usually being best.
Would not f with the bear repellant ones as they go off like a bee bomb. But the regular self defense types aren't that bad. Yes they sting and if applied directly to the eyes would cause major vision problems.
Girls in school used to carry them/ some ppl have water balloon fights-we used those instead. Teachers were not amused...
This stuff wasn't the best of the best (commercially available spray quality is highly variable) so maybe I've only experienced low heat stuff. Was not impressed by it- and defin would not trust enough to use in any defensive situation.

You're probably right - it surely varies between make and manufacturer - I was probably just "lucky". But still - even the shittier sprays can stop you from doing what you were about to do when applied correctly (i.e. as much as you can, right in the face)
Stun guns =/= Tasers
Stun guns only hurt a lot, they're worthless as defensive weapons unless your attacker is scared by loud zapping noises.
This is a taser:

Wonder what that bull would do to you if you tried to use a stun gun on it.
Hahah, you do realize that "Taser" is the actual company, right? A taser is a stun gun too.
doest those stuff kill you?
10 years for a stun gun? Man, the british are going a bit way over the top with their punishments for illegal weaponry.
All that talk about tasers reminded me of Syphon Filter.

I thought Voltage wasn't the thing that you worried about. It was the ampage?
Or am i just being unbelievably stupid.

More so than normal that is.

They make cow-specific stun rods.
I'm not sure of the specs, but our cows flip the fuck out the first time. Second time, they try to avoid it.
...You're aware voltage is directly proportional to amperage, right?
no, wattage is
no, wattage is
Firstly there is no such thing as 'amperage' don't using the word ever.
Secondly Power (Watts) is the product of voltage and current: P = VI.
In terms of danger both V and I come into play, a high voltage is not dangerous unless there is a sufficient amount of current available, for example you'd have a very hard time killing yourself with a CRT TV flyback (30kV upto a few 100uA) compared to the extremely dangerous microwave oven transformer (2kV at 1A or more).
The actual amount of power is only of moderate importance since relatively few people die as a result of burns.
Skin resistance does reduce the effect of electrical shock to some degree, however it cannot ever be relied upon to provide protection, above about 400V or so it provides no protection
Illegal stun guns 20 times more powerful than police Tasers can be illegally imported into the UK
Sentences like this make me curious if there's a way to legally import an illegal item.
Sentences like this make me curious if there's a way to legally import an illegal item.
Getting illegal stuff imported is easy as fuck in the UK, chemicals, research drugs, seeds, knifes and other small weapons get through all the time, they'd have an extremely hard time trying to detect things like stun guns from other electronics imports, false customs information is also extremely common.
never has the zing rating been more appropriate

In the first one, the cow is getting constant electrical current going through it, but then gets right back up as soon as it's done with. In the second, the guy is only getting contact for less than a second. The only thing that makes them different is that sometimes the taser's nodes (or whatever they are) are spaced out further than the ones on a stun gun can reach, allegedly making it more effective. Sure, just tapping the guy with the stun gun probably wont do much more than hurting a lot. Holding contact for at least a few seconds will have dramatically more effective results.
I shall make a 20,000,000 volt 1,000 amp stun gun. It will explode people.
Hahah, you do realize that "Taser" is the actual company, right? A taser is a stun gun too.
However, TASER International makes a unique product which differs from tradition stun guns.
[editline]8th January 2013[/editline]
it's not the same thing. TASERs fire a pair of metal prongs connected to wires through which electric current flows and are designed to incapacitate. A "stun gun" is just a device designed to deliver electric current in order to deter attacks by inflicting pain.

I have zapped myself for several seconds with a stun gun, it was at a gun show and the guy was going on and on about how they're the perfect defensive weapon and will knock a full grown man out for several seconds. I picked one up off his table, held it up to my chest and zapped myself for about 4-5 seconds with it to prove a point, and surprise surprise I didn't loose consciousness or motor control. Everyone walked away and he hasn't been back since then.
If there's a stun gun which can produce the same results as a Taser I haven't seen it, most if not all of those off the shelf stun guns are little more than useless pain sticks, they're not gonna stop an attacker from beating you to within an inch of your life. They're gimmicks, they're not made as defensive weapons they're purpose is to make money off ignorance and lies. It's no different than selling a gun to someone for self defense, then when they need to use it all the comes out is a little flag on a stick with "BANG!" written on it.
Rather get zapped with a stun gun than stabbed.
Pepper spray is illegal in England? What the fuck?
Rather get zapped with a stun gun than stabbed.
That's not the point, if someone buys a stun gun with the idea that it'll disable an attacker than all it's done is create a false sense of security, and if they actually use the stun gun expecting it to disable their attacker then they're going to be in for a big surprise when he keeps coming and beats the shit out of them for zapping him.
If you're not willing to make a strong stand against an attacker, then don't and hope he's not considering killing you afterward. If you do want to make a stand, use something that actually works like a taser, a knife or a gun and be damn sure you know how to use it and take proper care of it, granted it's legal for you to carry a weapon where you live.

And yet nobody cares about chavs. It should be against the law to wear flannels

Unless you're a lumberjack.
Getting ten years in jail for owning a stun gun is more shocking than their availability.
