Christ, America's legal system is beyond fucked up.
Imagine if they had that list for murderers. "Hey I'd like to let you know that I just moved in and I kill people. In fact, the government requires me to go door-to-door and let everybody know that its extremely likely you'll be the first to die when I inevitably regress and start murdering again!"
Girl is a liar and ruins someone's life, yet the justice system never goes after her. It just targets the man who didn't do anything wrong.
Reading this article reminded me so much of someone I used to know; she had lost her virginity (consensual from both parties) at the age of thirteen with her boyfriend at the time.... Who was in his early 20's. :v:
I'm not gonna lie. That seems like a relevant case of statutory rape. The psychological differences between a 13yo and a ~21 yo are staggering, and allowing that much of an age difference opens a rather nasty can of worms.

It's not only pedophilia in a way, as well as statutory rape, but being in a so-called "relationship" with that sort of age gap.... Should be called babysitting, not a relationship. ...Not to mention that back when I was in a long-distance relationship years ago, (I was 18 and the guy was 32), everyone; friends, family, even strangers back in college, had lost their fucking shit, going all "PEDOPHILE BAIT ALERT, CALL THE COPS, OMG". Whilst the age of consent is 16; both in the UK and the State where he used to live :v: Seriously, age doesn't and shouldn't matter when it comes to being in a relationship, as long as both parties are over the age of consent. Yeah... That was a rant without meaning it to be! :v:

It's nobody's business but theirs. But a 13yo is a child, easily manipulated, without the ability to give true consent. And anybody over 16 would have a massive amount of swaying power over them. Romeo & Juliet laws are for relationships between an 18yo and a 15yo. A while back there was a thread in SH about a 16yo girl who raped an 8yo boy multiple times across a number of years. Same age difference as your example. There must be a line. Actually rereading your post, it seems I missed, "as long as both parties are over the age of consent." Sorry for my own rant.
it's so messed up that a 17 year old can have sex with a 18 year old and the 18 year old can become a registered sex offender it's ruining peoples lives why is it so wrong to fuck?

No one even wants to touch the laws for fear of being labeled a pedophile sympathizer or even just a pedo. It really does make me sound like "one of those people" but I think we've transformed from "The Land of the Free" to "The Land of the Afraid" within the last 20 years and this is just a facet of it.

It's a god damn witch hunt.
We shouldn't hate pedophiles, we should be sympathetic to their plight and try to help them suppress their urges and not commit actual crimes. Hatred does nothing but breed things like witchhunts.
to be honest I'm glad that the hate for pedophilia is so deep rooted into our thinking
This is a problem.
We shouldn't hate pedophiles, we should be sympathetic to their plight and try to help them suppress their urges and not commit actual crimes. Hatred does nothing but breed things like witchhunts.
This is a solution. Once again I think our country's problems can be traced to lack of proper mental healthcare and education. No one has to like pedophiles but if the current way of handling them destroys their lives and probably won't even give them any help they obviously have no incentive to seek that help. Now this is just sounding off topic, but it IS related to this dumb bullshit with age rulings.

Hatred does nothing but breed things like witchhunts.
fair enough it's easy to understand why people are so fearful, and ignorant about it too. The thought of children being at such a risk is terrifying sadly I don't see people getting better educated about the issues pedophiles face. at least not any time soon. I have my own amount of bias regarding it too. It's hard to understand them.
The problem is, how are these kids going to find the age of their partners? Do they ask them for an ID? It's not that easy and it's ridiculous that this kid got his life screwed because of that, how can he be responsible for the lies of others?
Asking for ID before sex would be a mistake. That person might just have a fake ID, and then you'd be screwed. Both literally and figuratively!
I will not even go into the whole Fake-ID/No-ID possibility, that complicates things even more.

Asking for ID before sex would be a mistake. That person might just have a fake ID, and then you'd be screwed. Both literally and figuratively!
Nope, that's not how it works. Otherwise every time a bar, club, gas station, or liquor store provides goods or services to underage people who present a fake ID then they'd be able to be prosecuted. Presenting a fake ID is a crime, you don't charge the victim of a crime.
If someone says theyre 18 and can reasonable be thought to be 18, there shouldn't be shit like this happening to those who sleep with them.
Usually that's how it goes down, if they look old enough and have lied about their age then the lion's share of cases will result in no charges, a teenybopper getting grounded, and an adult sitting alone in the dark contemplating how unbelievably fucked they would have been.
And they are right to be. His future is gone now, and it's all because of one simple mistake.
It wasn't his fault though if she told him she was old enough by law to have sex. What's he gonna do, card her?
It wasn't his fault though if she told him she was old enough by law to have sex. What's he gonna do, card her?
after all this shit, i'm going to start doing it. No way i'm ruining my life just because some cunt wants to lie.
You want to train every-fucking-one to be able to spot Fake-ID's? Good luck with that. Also many kids don't have ID's, you think everybody in this situation will go: "Man, I'm horny as shit but you have no ID, no way we could do it" Eh no.

Two horny teens will not care much for IDs. If plenty of them don't even care about condoms, then you can throw the whole ID before sex idea out the window. Putting teens on a sex offender list and ruining their lives just because they did something natural that their body pretty much demanded is so ridiculous. Good thing they're at least considering changing the law.

If a teenager buys some booze and is later arrested, they'll be charged with that crime + underage drinking/having a false ID. Nobody will go after the store if the ID looked real enough. What the fuck do I have to lose by being safe? "oh but youll look weird :( :( :(" Yeah, but I won't be in jail so I really don't give a shit about what some nobody I met in a bar thinks of me.

Two young human beings wanting to have sex, there is not much that can stop that, the US even has such strict, bullshit laws and it still happens which proves my point. The tier idea some states have is an improvement but it can be done better. Like 3-4 years margin would be a step in the right direction, but US politicians can be so prude, it is not even funny. Also, your personal policy is spot on, and would be favourable for everyone, but that is not gonna happen, which is the point of this discussion. Not saying the measures against violent paedophiles should be abolished, no way, that alone is probably effective on its own, but don't screw over someone's life because they had normal sex which didn't harm anyone and quite didn't fit the limits set by the law. Restrictions are needed but don't punish the wrong ones with your hardest punishments they don't deserve.
