wish they put it on wiiu - i'd rather play a long story-driven game like majora on the big screen
That's what Emulators on your phone are for.
Playing N64 games on a phone sounds terribly uncomfortable.
Why would you want to play the same game you played on your TV again but on a tiny 240p screen with horrible controls?
Sorry, but I'm not going to go out of my way to buy an N64 and a copy of the game, when I already have a 3DS.

I don't think it's a big enough step, to be honest.
They shouldn't have to limit themselves to the 3DS. At least use the WiiU for something and release it on there, up the changes even more. I'm not saying "overhaul to next gen", just... push it further.
I'm okay with them releasing it on the 3DS. I like the idea of being able to play the re-releases of OoT and MM on the same platform, much in the same way you could with the originals. This will be a great money maker for Nintendo, since they get to re-use assets.
Might pick this up. ALBW is the only Zelda game I've ever finished.

It is. Same with gamecube emulation, but they both become bearable with a compatible bluetooth controller, though that kinda defeats the purpose.

Or they could port both 3ds versions to the wiiu in a single title release, possibly as a preorder bonus for ZeldaU whenever that comes out. Then everyone wins.

Ignore the completely new model, light engine, textures and everything but thats alright.
Point is

Totally not an improvement at all
It's completely fine on the 3DS. It looks good, it will play the same, and you can play it while taking a shit. They're not ~"limiting"~ themselves at all, if you know what that means in the first place.
I'm interested if there will be any subtle censoring to happen with the re-release. Day 3 was the darkest with everyone getting all depressed that they know the world is going to end. Even the implications that some parents either drugged their children or let them get drunk so they can die euphorically and not worry about the moon crashing down.

It is a graphical improvement, but they didn't change much in terms of gameplay like they did with WWHD.

Why would they need to change the gameplay? Also I wasn't aware of any gameplay changes in WWHD.

They added some stream lining and tweaks, it wasn't really anything major.

I don't think they will.
It wasn't directly said to us that they drugged them. Only one character (I think) mentions it and it's Cremia on the last day, saying she'd let Romani get a cup of it. People only assumed that, since the Milk Bar is Adult Only, that the Chateau Romani is actually an alcohol beverage. It could very well be but it's never directly said.
To my younger eyes, it was a powerful potion that made parts of the game easier to go through (and Fierce Deity a spammy madman). Now that I'll play through it again years later, I'll probably understand and look closely to the game's hidden messages.
And if they did, it would remove the sense of despair and hopelessness the game gives out to players.
It's meant to be depressing, gloomy and sad. I'm mostly afraid that they fuck up the atmosphere, like they did with OoT final fight, where Ganon was no longer an omnipotent shadow with glowing eyes.
Was just a giant pig-man with swords and blue skin.

they reworked the triforce quest to make it not shit, quickened sailing, and quickened using the wind waker, in ocarina 3d they fixed the iron boots, "fixed the water temple", and made it to where you can change items on the fly as apposed to navigating the pause menu. Honestly there was more wrong with windwaker than OoT but I'm trying to think of what if anything they can fix with majora's mask, I know casuals will just say "3 day limit too hard" but hell it's really not.
And this is not coming to the Wii U... why exactly?
They didn't feel it would look pretty enough to warrant a console release? Not enough Wii U owners? Want to boost sales for 3DS further?
I'm still pissed off my sister lost Ocarina of Time 3D. At least I got to finish it though.
I'm glad this is coming out though, I was never able to beat this on the 64.

probably the same reason GBA games are only available on the wii U eshop
and NES games are only available on the 3DS eshop
Third best Zelda game involving time travel
This is fantastic news. Though to be honest, if you want a fresher, cleaner looking Majora's Mask experience, you really should try emulating the N64 version and using some of the texture packs and enhancements. I don't have many good screenshots on hand, but it can look pretty amazing with the right packs installed. Ocarina of Time included...

Song of time backwards doubles the amount of time you get. Just have to remember to do it at the start of day 1.

I'd guess because they released OOT on the 3DS and the two games are basically siblings
I kinda like the new textures for the moon. It looks more freaked out crashing into the land.
the new moon just keeps on reminding me of this:

you know this, and I know this, but the people that pick up the game, see the time limit and then run from it do not.
I think the reason they're doing it on the 3DS is not only for convenience's sake for those who already own Ocarina of Time, since you'd have two games related to eachother on the same system like before, but also so they can effectively port over assets from OoT3D to MM3D without having to really quality bump them like they would if they brought either game to the Wii U. That's not to say I wouldn't mind the graphics stepped up even further to 1080p on the Wii U, but hey, it works as it works.
Also, although they re-noted the music of Ocarina of Time, it's still pretty much the same soundtrack with some minor noise/note adjustments; infact, although besides the brightened lighting somewhat ruining certain moody scenes, I consider OoT3D the definitive version of the game but compared to Star Fox 64 3D? It was relatively low effort, while SF643D's port/remake just completely blows it out of the park in terms of effort comparisons. And unfortunately it seems like Majora's Mask 3D will follow OoT3D in terms of effort (although the condensing of the clock was a smart choice).
I'm actually really curious to see what changes they made, since I don't imagine Majora's Mask's time limit and picky save system at Owl Statues really lends itself well to a handheld. But I might be remembering things wrong.
i love how the moon looks now instead the n64 version floating mouth moon

Good thing MM3D is nothing like that, then, what with the updated models and textures and effects.

If that's the final box art I am very happy with it. It looks amazing.

They get to reuse resources from Ocarina of Time 3D rather than rebuilding it and the engine from the ground up for the Wii U, not unlike how the game was an experiment in reusing resources in the first place.
Plus developing HD graphics is much more expensive than 3DS-tier graphics.
-snip-
i was just trying to replay MM the other week and it kept freezing on my n64, guess I will be getting this!!!
