Well, we actually just switched from Netflix only to Netflix + Comcast Cable. It was an extra $20 on our bill for HD DVR with HBO included for 2 years. Cable TV isn't bad, just not worth the exorbitant prices they charge, so if you get on a good deal it's great.

I don't remember the last time I sat down and REALLY watched television tbh
I don't remember the last time I sat down and REALLY watched television tbh
Me neither.
I don't remember the last time I sat down and REALLY watched television tbh
I only do it in hotels where the internet is too shitty to stream and I was too lazy to bring anything local. Otherwise, I just hook my laptop into the TV and use a Bluetooth mini keyboard to stream things and screw around. Even when I do watch it, it's remarkably annoying. Half of the time you have to find something else to do because of the ads. I'm amazed that cable companies still try to push TV, it's such an obnoxiously outdated format.
I like watching TV shows the moment they air, don't care about commercials.
Lets not forget that, for example, in Britain, you have to register your cable to pay TV tax or else you get fined immensely.
I didn't actually know that as since I moved out I've never paid for subscription TV, nor do I pay the license and never will.
The only reason I'm still holding on to cable is for Ash vs. Evil Dead. Once it ends (or gets cancelled, knowing the luck of Bruce and the Evil Dead series in general), that cable box is going to the curb and never coming back.
Amazon prime allows you to add starz (ash vs evil dead channel) or showtime for $9/mo https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201975120 cut tv already, been off it for a year and i dont miss all the terrible news channels, sports, or any of that shit. only thing i really miss is better call saul
Only really works in North America, at the top of my list is the random delays going from several days with Game of Thrones to half a year for things like Mythbusters. Under that is being required to have a cable HBO subscription to use HBO Go. Having to rely on third party sites to even know what is on Netflix without doing a trail or singing up. And the good old local content creators whining about piracy and refusing to adapt to easy and digital methods while having record cinema sales. A market they love so much that they shoot all their films in some other random country because complaining about a market going to shit and actually improving it are different things.
does HBO now exist yet in europe it's the hbo that doesnt require a cable sub. The only time i like watching TV is stuff like SBS where I'd find weird movies and TV shows i probably wouldn't find anyway. Right now, the internet is providing a better service than TV and Netflix for me.
It's nice being able to watch Monday, Thursday, and Sunday night football. Just too expensive for just that though...
It's nice being able to watch Monday, Thursday, and Sunday night football. Just too expensive for just that though...
Eh, that's what bars are for.
I mean yeah my TV's always set to the HDMI port anyway thanks to the PS4 and it's easy to just tap a button on a controller to pull it out of rest mode and hop onto Netflix where I don't have to worry about commercials or inability to rewind or w/e. Not to mention that it's less of a pain in the ass to set up than cable.
I haven't had cable TV in a long time, probably around 8 years. Sometimes I do kinda miss being lazy on the couch and flipping through channels though.
This won't happen for most of the UK until good internet is actually a thing.
If you're someone who watches TV for yourself, I can see why netflix would be great. You can just wait for a show to be out on netflix and watch it. If you're someone who's social about the TV shows you enjoy though, I would assume it would be a pain in the ass not being able to watch current seasons of a show you like and want to talk to people about. I looked up some of the major shows I watch on TV right now, and none of their current seasons are on any streaming service and some of them aren't there at all. I'm sure it would get annoying to have friends and colleagues constantly asking "HAVE YOU SEEN X?" and responding with "No I'm waiting for it to come to netflix." because all the fun of talking about the most recent episode of a show is lost a few days/weeks after it's over, and when you finally watch it no one else will be as enthusiastic about it because the newer episodes are already out, or they moved on/don't care anymore. Not to mention if you're really invested in a show, having to wait for it to show up on netflix means you run the risk of having things ruined for you through spoilers and shit. Until Netflix gets so big that they can stream airing episodes as they're out on TV or within a few hours of airing on TV, I don't see it as a cable killer, just a viewship threat.
Have you heard of Hulu?
I have a 55-inch TV with zero Smart-capabilities hooked to my PC, PS2, PS3 and PS4. I use it to play games and watch stuff on the internet. Actual TV-programs here are either ad-filled reruns of reruns or those shitty TV-shows like Garage Hunters #67 or Deadliest Catch Clone #354 or Fat Guys in forest and I just don't care about those at all. And most of the Finnish stuff just plain sucks.
Have you heard of Hulu?
Yeah I have, and I did the same check for some very popular currently airing shows and they didn't have any of them there either. What's your point?
damn it turns out that locking certain shows behind a paywall that not everyone can globally access wasn't the smartest idea

The commercials drive me absogoddamnlutely insane on TV. Every 10 minutes you get 3 to 5 minutes of ads. How does anyone tolerate that shit. Second worst is all the forced drama reality TV shows. Before every commercial break they try to build something up by cutting to someone saying "Oh no!" or censored swearing which is usually taken out of context because they're so fucking worried you might change the channel during the commercial. Youtube has done more for me than Netflix but I still enjoy Netflix's selection.

I tried watching a show on TV last night that was pretty interesting, I gave up halfway through because I couldn't stand the ads. That "hour long" program is probably 40 minutes, tops. Youtube Red, Netflix and Ad-free Hulu has spoiled me so much, I don't even give a shit if the program is good. If I'm constantly bombarded with ads interrupting, I've lost interest. I've only got a few hours to myself every night, I'm not spending an hour of that watching ads.

I tried, and I mean I REALLY tried. I tried to watch the season finale of one of my favorite shows. It was a 2 epsiode, one "hour" per episode special finale. The vast majority of content went nice, with a tolerable ad vs content timing. However, for each episode, at the 47 minute mark, there would be 4 minutes of ads, a 30 second "behind the scenes" clip from the program, then 5 more minutes of ads, with the show coming back on around the 56-57 minute mark. They literally shoved 10 straight minutes of ad time in at the end of each one, with the overwhelming majority being those B.S. 15 second ads, and it just drove me insane. I know shows usually set a little tid bit aside for the end of the show to make sure you watch all of the ads in that perticular time slot, but 10 straight minutes of ads at the end just makes me want to never watch again. I mean a collage of all the sponsors of that time slot with a countdown timer for when the show would resume would actually be better because at least it would be useful enough that it wouldn't actively piss me off.
A lot of TV is killing itself shitty over dramatic bullshit "reality" shows, I'm pretty sure the only reason free TV and Foxtel hasn't completely died yet in Australia is because our internet is terrible and we're a bit late to the Netflix train (we also have Presto and Stan competing here). The only channels I even bother to watch regularly now are ABC and SBS but SBS broadcasts international news stations for most of the day and then I can watch what I want on services such as iView and SBS On Demand for free.
Nobody has mentioned kodi yet?
