Mobile is never going to become "the future of gaming" as long as mobile games continue to be nothing but shallow, vapid, cynical cash grabs. The best mobile games I've played are ports from other platforms, everything else seems to be designed for no other reason than to exploit addiction and emotion psychology to milk microtransactions from people.
The way it's written he's not saying that mobile is becoming the future of gaming. He's saying that nintendo is loosing their traditional handheld market to mobile and it's completely possible that the future of mobile gaming will be handhelds.
Which is not completely untrue the way it looks now.
I think they also didn't notice there happens to be an official pokemon app in the app store for itunes. Pokedex app
The biggest problem with mobile gaming are the controls. FPS, jump and run and fighting games are uncomfortable to play with a touchscreen. Especially because your fingers cover like 1/5 of the screen.
Street Fighter 4, Street Fighter X Tekken, an Virtua Fighter 2 are the only good iOS fighters.
Capcom dropped the ball on the MVC2 port and idkwtf EA was trying to do with UMK3 because that was a buggy mess.
FPS's I do agree get uncomfortable for the most part.
Doom Classic works alright though because it does Virtual D-pads instead of godawful touch analog sticks.
Run and jump games being bad on a touch screen I disagree with. Sonic 1, and CD work great on a touch screen.

I had a horrible experience with the Sonic 2 iOS port, so I have no idea what you are talking about.
Sonic Dash was a good orginal game though.

Whoops you're right it's shitty emulation. I thought Taxman remade it like 1 and CD
