What is with MOBA gamers? I consider myself a gaming enthusiast and stuff like this disgusts me. Kudos to the writer for putting things so diplomatically, but for fuck's sake. It's entertainment. It's not making you any money and it's not going to get you laid.
i know i just mentioned the problem with people that only see black and white but i'm getting a real "things that don't get you laid or make you money are not worth any energy" vibe from the bolded you are not going to parent artists.
I think the point of entertainment for relaxation is that it never gets frustrating.
It shouldn't have to, that's the point. That's why I very rarely play without a full group of 5 nowadays. No one leaves, and I have a good, relaxing time.
I think the point of entertainment for relaxation is that it never gets frustrating.
how old are you i'm curious
It shouldn't have to, that's the point. That's why I very rarely play without a full group of 5. No one leaves, and I have a good, relaxing time.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that when the enjoyable nature of an activity depends mostly on what OTHER PEOPLE are doing, then it's simply not something that can be considered 'relaxing'. Sure, it's fun when you have a good team, but they're under zero obligation to take things as seriously.
That's not the point? I never have thought for a second games were going to make me money. I play games with a few beers to relax after a long and stressful day at work, and later at night to just hang out with some people I know, both IRL and online. It definitely becomes less relaxing when some shit leaves and makes the match frustrating because they didn't plan their time/their parent doesn't understand that real people are effected and want them to do something mundane and non time-sensitive.
No video game should make you this frustrated, I don't even care what it is. There's so many frustrating things in life. I just really cant see why anyone would get like that over this
I have several ill family members, one of which is often hospitalized, I have a significant other, close friends, and sometimes my father needs assistance with things because it's just the 2 of us living here and he can't do everything by himself. I'm sorry but my family and friends come before a 10-30 minute game session. No fucking way you or anyone else will ever convince me that I shouldn't put them first. No.
i'm sorry your dad needs assistance, but that doesn't give you the right to ruin the experience for other people. if you think you have to leave frequently then maybe don't play ranked mode. also, what does it mean you have "a significant other, close friends," are you implying you're unique in that?
how old are you i'm curious
I'm 25 and a Dark Souls enthusiast. You?
unlike FPS games, MOBAs require like 30 mins of continious gameplay to actually be fun. its a huge weakness of MOBAs, but the fact is if you're too busy to find a 30 min window where you can play most uninterrupted, then don't play.
I'd recommend trying a different game if these problems are so prevalent and they make you this frustrated, just a thought.
I'm 25 and a Dark Souls enthusiast. You?
"entertainment is for relaxation" is an opinion
I'd recommend trying a different game if these problems are so prevalent and they make you this frustrated, just a thought.
Uh, any video game can make you frustrated. "Son of a BITCH, I can't beat this fucking level."
"entertainment is for relaxation" is an opinion
"fun is just a buzzword"
"entertainment is for relaxation" is an opinion
If you read my post very carefully, it was preceded by two words. "I think". Usually, when you read that, it implies that the statement being made is an opinion. Any more questions?
Uh, any video game can make you frustrated. "Son of a BITCH, I can't beat this fucking level."
yeah but at least you can give up without having 9 other people be pissed at you and proceed to write an open letter to your parents
the reasoning of the letter is flawed if the point is to not inconvenience other people in the game, the correct course of action is to not let children play online video games in general, because kids online are without fail insufferable little shits.
yeah but at least you can give up without having 9 other people be pissed at you and proceed to write an open letter to your parents
Holy shit, zing.

Some of the most fun I've had in game is when I'm losing horribly. We can fuck around a bit, and have some jokes. Losing because you aren't as good doesn't have to be frustrating, it isn't for me, but a near guaranteed loss because someone vital left when they should have planned better is. Hence why I rarely play with randoms anymore.

It makes synergistic teamplay mandatory, and that can be a rewarding experience whether you win or lose. Funny example, but if you've ever played the first Guild Wars back when it was popular, it was the same. The thing is, if I played such a game, even if I got heavily into it, I couldn't sympathize with anyone who was so butthurt about their 'statistics' that they actually went to write an open letter about it. When you win, you win. When you lose, them's the breaks. It's a little frustrating, yeah, but if I was getting salty I'd go play something else until I'd calmed down. Maybe that's just me.
As a gamer and a parent I fully support this message:

I miss it.
I did Frostmaw with some friends who came up from Columbus a couple weekends ago, the mechanics are really rough to go back to.
Willing to bet that if Anet came up with one last expansion and a little more polish, it might bring the game back to life and keep it there for a few more years yet.
I think this sort of thing shows that parents just need to take time to actually understand what their children are doing with their free time. Maybe ask what they are playing or who they are playing it with.(also would help to stop kids playing overage games) But its also kids responsibility to tell their parents a bit about what they are doing too, i used to heroic raid a lot in wow and we would usually have a set day or 2 to spend 4-5 hours raiding, i would often give my parents a heads up about when i was doing this and that i wouldn't be able to do other stuff for that amount of time. Fortunately my parents actually took a slight interest on what i did, but for a good while they didnt understand when i was playing a multiplayer game i couldn't just pause it right away, but online multiplayer was a pretty new thing then.
no not my stats how will I ever be happy now that my W/L ratio is down [editline]12th February 2015[/editline] no you don't understand some sperglord on the internet is gonna see it and call me a faggot my precious ego will not remain unscathed
This is exactly the reason why I never raided properly even though I played WoW for about 8 years. When I was living with my parents I never had the same block of uninterrupted 2-3 hour gaming slot other people seemed to have and I never bothered to go against my parents about it. In my mind having dinner with them was more important than playing with 39/24/19 other people that I didn't really know and since I couldn't make the commitment I pretty much played solo or did instances here and there and I still had a fucking great time. But the problem is (apart from the "letter" not being from an official Riot poster) do you really believe any (or at least most) parent will take this seriously enough to not bother their son/daughter while playing? The responsibility lies with the children in this case. If you think you are mature or developed enough to play the game you should be the one making time for it, whether it is getting all your chores done beforehand or deciding that tonight is not a good time to play because there might be something coming up. I still don't understand why the letter wasn't addressed to kids playing the game, rather than the parents. Probably because the kids mentioned in the letter are children with very little sense of responsibility (both towards other gamers and towards their family). In the end the letter is a non-solution to a problem that begins and ends with the player not anyone around them.
I agree. I also have a counterpoint to this counterpoint: Stop taking MOBAs so damned seriously. Statistically speaking the chances of any one random League player going 'pro' is on par with winning a decent chunk from the lottery. 99.999% of the people playing these sorts of games are never going to see a single cent reach their wallet from what they do in said game, and most are playing it as a way to relax. So relax. Don't take it so damned seriously that one person DCing from the match ruins your day. Big fucking deal you lost one match because of a mid-game DC. The world's gonna keep right on turning, no need to get upset over it.
It's not about going pro, and hell this shit isn't even restricted to MOBAs. If people were playing a game that wasn't team based, chances are people wouldn't care if they had to disconnect. Unfortunately, this is the case in a lot of team based games, where people have to disconnect mid game and then the others are forced to play a game where the odds are just stunted for the rest of the entire game. There's a lot of things wrong with what you're saying. [editline]12th February 2015[/editline]
no not my stats how will I ever be happy now that my W/L ratio is down [editline]12th February 2015[/editline] no you don't understand some sperglord on the internet is gonna see it and call me a faggot my precious ego will not remain unscathed
It's posts like these that are pretty ignorant. Nobody likes playing a game where their teammates or even their enemies just leave mid-game. It's irritating and it ruins the game for everyone else. Who wants to play a player vs player game where the chances are already off from the start? It's not fun like that. you're essentially ruining other people's fun when you disconnect mid-game, at least be considerate of that. But wait, you guys are just having fun and who cares about video games am i right? I mean this letter was pretty stupid because the parents aren't at fault, but you guys aren't really getting the point of the matter. It's annoying to play team based games and have your teammates leave, who likes that? It's not about "going pro" or having a "W/L ratio" like what that's not the point at all.
there is literally a line in the first or second paragraph of the letter saying it affects players stats and is therefor bad
