How did you get the controller to play DCS: Warthog?
Unified DPad, concave (sorta) analog sticks, redesigned triggers. No complaints here.
This is more likely to be just exact the same stunt they pulled of with that hideous banana-look-alike thing, they had going in the early days of the PS3.
Interesting, looks like they got rid of the Start and Select buttons
CBA to look through the rest of the thread but if you look closely at the top of the controller near the edges of the screen, you can kind of see buttons practically embedded in the controller. That's probably what happened there.
Because fuck innovation, that's why!

Look, this works perfectly, there's absolutely no need to change it any further and add more unnecessary clutter to it!!
You also need to keep in mind, at the time games were meant to sit down and play a quick game for like an hour at max. Now we have games that have people playing hours on end.
What he's saying is that there is nothing wrong with the current ps3 controller as it's perfect for it's purpose.

Yeah it's perfect for the purpose of the PS3. Not the PS4.
Also I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that dualshock 3 controllers will work with the PS4.
I agree, except the controller has much more going for it besides a screen, it's big, high resolution and detailed touch screen. The PS4 one is like the size of a lighter, I doubt it would be clear enough for much. I'd expect it simple to show some redundant information, maybe TS style with who is speaking in voice chat or battery info, download info, maybe the time in-the-game world, current objectives, etc. It can help with some minimalistic Huds, but I think it wouldn't serve wellfor serious stuff.
Yeah, it looks like it could be used for a quick overview of things like OS operations (downloads, backgrounded installs, PSN notifications), along with smaller game features (chats, world info, etc.) but depending on how dense the display is, it could either be very useful or just useless. I also expect it to most certainly be touch screen seeing as the Vita used it to quite some success (even if the console still isn't selling).
L1 and R1 look missing, seems like there's only the triggers.
Seperate and raise the D-Pad, raise Start and Select and add some rubber to those joysticks and it's golden.
What annoys me is that ridge you see between the blue light and the main face of the controller. The fact that the screen bends over that ridge is telling me it won't be a touch screen.
Looks like it has potential to let us use the speaker for voice commands (which will look silly; yelling in to a controller), and have another dimension to controlling things by using a touch screen on the controller.
Also, I realize it is a prototype, but I'm still a bit concerned seeing that it has an analog wire to connect it. You figure Bluetooth is cheap enough that you could include it in a prototype, but maybe not.
I won't lose sleep over it though.
Looks comfier than DS3.
At least it's not

I've always been curious as to if that actually could have worked out. Yeah, it has a funky shape, but it still comes down to how it feels.
EDIT: My merge...

While it looks ugly as sin, I've always wanted to hold that simply to see how it feels
If you look at the previous 3 from the same perspective, you cant see the triggers.
It's so copying the dreamcast
Looks heavy
Usually the prototypes of anything are bigger than the final product.

actually i feel really disgusted right now for some reason, i can't explain it. not funny.

oh god my sides
a funny rating is not enough to convey how hard I'm laughing right now

still there
That dpad looks worse than the one the previous pads had.
honestly I think the previous dpad was a bit annoying because my thumb sat in the middle of the gap and got mildly raw from rubbing the corners too much. If it's still separate buttons instead of a rocker, it's hopefully a vast improvement over most
The 360 controller is unbelievably heavy, it's laughable. It really strains the wrists when you use it for extended periods.
No such trouble with a PS3 controller.
How extended do you mean?
A week?
Reminds me of this photo around 2007-08.
I stared at that thing for about 15 minutes to work out how to hold the bloody thing.
Still no luck.
If it weights roughly between a PS3 wireless and a 360 wireless, that would be great.
Right now I feel like I could throw a PS3 controller out a window and it would glide.
This, seriously. Whats wrong with the classic dual shock design that we've had for the last 20 years?
The concept of the rocker D-pad is from the depths of hell and should be sent back there.

I think that's just you.

I've played sessions of burnout paradise that probably went into over 10 hours on weekends, and my wrists never got tired.
I actually fear for your physical health if your wrists get tired for holding an xbox controller for too long.
I think that's just you.
its personal preference
some people like one some like the other
to say hes the ONLY ONE EVER to dislike the 360 controller is silly
I guess I am a bicontroller, as in I like both 360 and PS controllers.
But as said, the rocker d-pad thing is probably the worst thing ever inserted into a controller.
That looks pretty good actually
Looks a bit homosexual.
It looks just like any other controller. It just does one little thing that might make people uncomfortable for unfounded reasons.
So, kinda?
[editline]14th February 2013[/editline]
I bet this would make browsing the web on your ps4 really painless, actually
I hope R2 and L2 are like RT and LT from the xbox controller. Driving games suck with a PS3 controller.
