still there

honestly I think the previous dpad was a bit annoying because my thumb sat in the middle of the gap and got mildly raw from rubbing the corners too much. If it's still separate buttons instead of a rocker, it's hopefully a vast improvement over most
I prefer the dpad on the PS controllers to the ones used for the Xbox; with the PS controllers the arrows felt much more seperate from one another, and sliding or rolling the thumb from one to the other was smooth. I tried an Xbox controller for awhile and the connectedness of all the dpad buttons into one big rocker felt really unresponsive
I'm glad they're beefing it up. The normal ones were way too small to me and felt awkward until I got used to them.
The 360's bigger controllers always felt more comfortable because they took up each of your entire hands.
And I guess Nintendo learned it too which is good because the Wiimote was fucking terrible to hold horizontally.
Any one else notice the motion control light at the top ?
I really hope they don't go the motion control crap route like Nintendo did.
I always liked the PS controller when I was young, eventually as i got bigger so did my hands and i found the ps controller a little uncomfortable to use most times but i can still play fine
the xbox controller feels perfect, i just like where the left joystick is, gives my fingers some spreading out rather than being compressed beside each other
It looks good. The old dualshock, the 'wings' were slightly too tapered or pointy, and it seems like the controller is wider, which should result in a more natural grip. To me, it's probably going to feel like a more comfortable DS3.

Looks like the next controller for Steel Battalion 3
The touch screen on the front looks like it might be kinda awkward to use. But it is in the same place the start and select were and those were fine so this design looks fine to me.
Looks very interesting, I wouldn't be surprised if the ps4 was backwards compatible with ps3 controllers though. It would be an obvious decision.
It looks like that really fake feeling low quality plastic.
Looks like an SLS prototype, AKA 3D printed
I dont think they would set up machinery to mold the plastic just for a prototype
I like that's a little bulkier/fatter than the PS3 controller. I found the old Playstation controllers WAY too small for my hand, I couldn't comfortably wrap my hand around the controller.
I really hope they refine it and make it less bulky.
it's plastic mold has a bunch of imperfections and un-even shape, so it's most likely a really early prototype
I haven't tried out a dualshock 3 yet, but I loved the dualshock 2 on my PS2, its was perfect in every way.
That's high praise coming from me, considering it is a controller after all.
Dualshock 3 tends to have the same feel, but the R2 and L2 make your fingers slide off.
PS5 controllers I can only imagine:

I honestly hope the controllers are a bit larger this time around. I strongly prefer the Xbox controllers simply because my hands are too big to comfortably use the PS3 controller.
left thumbstick still in a terrible place
for shooters, arguably. current position still wins for literally every other type of game possible
Did they at least fix the horrible triggers? I can't stand my fingers slipping off them all the time, makes me buy FPS for my Xbox instead of my PS3.

you're holding it wrong

Gioteck to the rescue!

I hope they'll work on it a bit more. It really doesn't look pretty.

Look, this works perfectly, there's absolutely no need to change it any further and add more unnecessary clutter to it!!
To me the controller was the worst thing about the NES despite its 'iconic nostalgic value' (if anything I think that should be one of the early Atari controllers), my hands cramped after just 15 minutes of playing

I'm so sick of people using this ploy on peoples nostalgia to represent a decent argument, it was good for its time but it definitely wasn't perfect. For instance, it's a fucking oblong, which is ergonomically terrible for long play times, it was often unresponsive and due to only having two buttons and a D-pad it was fairly limited in terms of game mechanics.
What's with all the screens on controllers
Just put the fucking stuff on the screen where I am already looking

i like the few wii u games that just stream the game onto the screen, so you can either play it on the TV or play it like a portable console, while someones watching/playing something else in the same room.
i also like the multiplayer aspect to it, like in nintendoland zelda, having the bow be on the gamepad because of the touch screen and the sword/shield be the wiimote and nunchuk.
having inventory screens/minimaps on the second screen is really confusing though, unless you hold the controller up to the screen so you can see both, which is obviously uncomfortable.
As long as it works the same and feels the same it could be hot pink for all I care. I love the Dualshock controller.
The 360 controller is unbelievably heavy, it's laughable. It really strains the wrists when you use it for extended periods.
No such trouble with a PS3 controller.
Yeah, if you're 2 years old it might strain your wrists.
I still think Microsoft wins for their original Xbox controller.

I think it's a touchpad, not a screen.
It seems that sony is trying different a type of controller. It aint bad that they did something new, but I want to know what is the purpose for the Touch pad in the middle, will it replace the start and select button and work as those buttons or will it function in another way and they just moved the start and select button somewhere else.
I like the PS3 a lot, but fuck the dualshock, sorry. It was comfy on my PS2 when I was a kid, but now that I have huge fucking hands, it's just awkward, and if I play too long, I get cramps because the left stick rests in an unnatural place.
Just because it's symmetrical does not mean it is comfortable. I've always found the Dpad on an Xbox 360 controller fine too, so apparently there is something wrong with me. Dpads aren't even mainly used anymore, put the left thumbstick there and put the Dpad under, since the Dpad gets minimal use, and is really only pressed once or twice as a contextual thing in most games.
