Whether you're a fan or not of the band, he was still a man. A man that died waaaaay too young. I didn't expect him to pass away tonight...
rip in piece
shred in peace*
Oh man, I know a few people who are going to be blown apart at this news.
for all those not aware, he had necrotizing fascititis from a spider bite which probably lead to this
fitting that he'd die from the most metal sounding disease ever
Saw them at Mayhem too. Hadn't listened to Slayer before that, but it was fucking awesome.
That looks like the Mansfield Comcast Center stage. What year did you see them? I believe I saw the Mayhem fest in 09.
Saw them at Provinssirock just last year, great band, great guy. RIP.
That's probably the most depressing thing. Knowing that actors like Morgan Freeman will die while we're alive.
Yep, outliving actors is certainly more depressing than outliving family and friends.
gabe newell will die within our lifetime :(
But gods don't die
Yep, outliving actors is certainly more depressing than outliving family and friends.
yeah it's not like cultural icons dying in your time could or should or even can make you sad
I literally just put on a Slayer t-shirt when I read this, fucking shit he was my fav guitarist of all time. Hold me.
Indeed he did. I also preferred his solos to Kings. He wrote most of the stuff to. I don't know what this means to the future of the band, whether they will continue and release their album, but I'd really understand if they'd want to quit. If they did, it would be a real shame because they're still a great live band from my understanding.
They probably won't break up, I know Kerry already said he'd be fine if Gary Holt stayed in the band.
A sad day to see such a well-known band lose a member like this.
Dam he lived in my town and my dad runs a mail store so he would come in and pickup all his guitars from my dads store cool guy
They probably won't break up, I know Kerry already said he'd be fine if Gary Holt stayed in the band.
IMO it's starting to seem more like Kerry & Friends plus i'm pretty certain Holt will side with Exodus in the end
So glad I went to see them while I could in 2009. Thanks for the music Jeff. I wonder what will happen to their Bloodstock appearance now... guess if they appear they'll have that guy from Exodus Gary Holt who's been filling in for Jeff for some time for live shows
It's a great shame that he died. It'll be interesting to see where Slayer go now, as he was the main songwriter. He's the first member of a band in the Big 4 to die since Cliff Burton in 1986.

Well, if you only count those that were members of a Big 4 band at the time they died. Interestingly, Gar also died of liver failure.
Fuckin' Gar. I always forget about him. Hanneman is 3rd then I guess. Still, it was an early exit. I can understand Gar's death completely because he was a serious drug addict (I don't doubt that had something to do with his death).
IMO it's starting to seem more like Kerry & Friends plus i'm pretty certain Holt will side with Exodus in the end
That's what it looks like ever since Kerry replaced Dave for the current shows because he complained he didn't get paid for any of the tours in 2012.
Can't say I ever really gave Slayer a listen, but this is tragic. RIP.
Do you guys think that heavy drinking did this to him? I don't know if Hanneman was a party animal or not, so it's really surprising still to think he has died from liver failure. I know someone posted earlier that it could also be from his spider bite, but wouldn't that of killed him earlier?
Holy fuck, i don't think i've ever been this shocked in my life, i'd never expect opening up SH to see that a member of one of my favorite bands has died.
Can't say I ever really gave Slayer a listen, but this is tragic. RIP.
If you played Vice City you've given Slayer a listen
Liver failure. Surprising.
I believe it was related to necrotizing fasciitis he had last year. Which you should never look up on wikipedia, because it's fucking terrifying.

I'd guess it was the spider bite.

My heart is shattered.
First Iron Maiden's former drummer, then Deftones' bassist, and now Slayer's guitarist. :(
I cried a little, Slayer and guitars were a huge part of my childhood. Fuck.
