• McDonald's replaces Happy Meal toys with books

I'm more surprised that McDonalds is doing it themselves without the government forcing them.
Reminds me of these:
More like propaganda to fill our virgin children's minds with communist zionism no doubt.
hehe we've had books with happy meals in Sweden for over 7 years I think.
Well actually they've done this in america a few times over the years, but according to the article this is replacing the toys. This isn't just like a limited time thing like they do with toys relevant to movies.
At least it's a pretty useful series of books, though. I read the shit out of DK books in elementary school.

"Mom I can't find Master Chief in this Stars and Planets book"
Wonder if this is gonna be exclusive to the UK or if US Mcdonalds will follow suit for good. In the states, I imagine kids will still pester their parents to get them a Happy Meal when the book is one of 5 from whatever Dreamworks has coming out and happens to pay Mcdonalds to have a themed Happy Meal about.
"How do u turn this on????"
Suddenly a Shelby Cobra drives out of the book
Aww, I really liked those shitty pieces of plastic which were pretty much useless
Huh, why did I think of math books and just basically boring books for kids when I read the title?... This sounds like a very nice idea, and those books should be pretty entertaining for kids, aswell as a good way to learn stuff. Much better than YET another Barbie or Action man or whatever they gave away nowadays...

I think they should just convert to books totally in the US too since their toys are always boring now anyway.
They should stick War and Peace in every happy meal.
Oh I was thinking that this was in America. To be honest, if I was 6 when they implemented something like this, I wouldn't probably get happy meals anymore if they gave books as toys. I could not give a flying fuck about the food, I just wanted the toys.
Well it'll hardly have a detrimental effect on kids, so I say go ahead; what could possibly go wrong?
I wonder if this will spread to other countries other than the UK.

I remember stuff like this being on the back of breakfast cereals and my grandmother got me a couple of these DK books, I probably still have them somewhere. Hope this isn't permanent/happens in the US. We get Pokemon Cards in the kids meals, man. POKEMON CARDS! Although, BK will still have the best ever promotion/kids meal toys; POKEMON THE FIRST MOVIE Wasn't there, literally, 151 toys? There was a crapton, if I remember. Plus those cool golden cards in the Pokeball holders.
I remember the Lego. I got a shitty 4 piece car with the... Nevermind looked it up. Damn this looks pretty cool for a Lego toy [t]http://i.ebayimg.com/t/LEGO-HAMBURGLAR-Racecar-McDonalds-Series-/12/!B4cugNwEGk~$(KGrHqJ,!jYEybc5so8NBMp60Tc2Mw~~_35.JPG[/t] This is like 12+ pieces
Lame it should come with a book and toy at least.

Shit they're still awesome!
Well thank fuck I'm not a little kid anymore. I got those things almost exclusively for the toys. waitwaitwaitwait It's only the UK. This is okay.
This is awesome! I work in a bookshop and whenever I see a child ask their parents for an educational book it makes me really happy, I purposely make them more prominent in the displays.
I don't see the research pointing out the relation between fast food and literacy.
does it really matter in this instance? Free books are always a good thing.
Zoobooks
When I was a little kid I loved these kind of books (since preschool or so), even if it was just because you could see photos and illustrations of cool animals. So yeah, I think this is a very cool idea, personally.
And suddenly landfills get overrun by unused and unwanted books...I admire the attempt but I have my doubts the kids will give the book a second glance.
We already had books in german Happy Meals. http://www.derwesten.de/gesundheit/kritik-an-happy-meal-kinderbuechern-bei-mcdonalds-id7059560.html
