Didn't know that ww1 germany took over new zealand.
They should just do something with Lord of the Rings considering that's the most notable thing about NZ anyways. I'm not even joking, they should be proud of those films.
Is no one going to think of how difficult half these designs are going to be for school kids to draw? Or are weekly flag drawing tests wherein drawing the wrong proportions or number of stars/stripes is punished by withholding corn syrup at lunch just a United States thing?
I thought they already chose the new flag a few months ago? The one that looked vaguely like a Pepsi logo?

I'll have you know that black, white and red are the national colours of the Maori population and, by extension, the Maori party.
Which makes it all the more amusing when the Maori party proudly waves its flag while claiming swathes of land and forming allegiances with randoms :v:.

no. and even once we choose a flag from these, it's not even guaranteed to be the new flag. it still has to go up to vote between the choice from these and the old flag.
Last I checked, 70%+ of New Zealanders don't want the flag changed. So I am still doubtful we will see a change.
The Black Jack is without a doubt the most awesome of the designs, but the silver fern on black matches New Zealand more.

Nah, the flag isn't venerated in New Zealand like this, that kind of US-brand nationalism is pretty unique in the western world.
Dear God, I think vexillologist would have a heart-attack at some of these designs. 90% of the don't look flag worthy. The only ones that actually look any good to me are Red Peak, Land of the Long White Cloud, New Southern Cross, and Southern Koru.
I think most of those flags are too complex. That's the thing with modern vexillology; people go with what looks cool without considering the symbolism, the legibility, and the ease of reproduction.
Although, to be fair, the current flag isn't exactly winning any prizes on those fronts either.
Black with fern and stars is best
