Wait, let's all be clear that the iPhone had the exact same price as any other smartphone.
I could get an iPhone 4S for 199$ on contract, just like I could get a Galaxy S III or HTC One X or Blackberry.
The only cheaper high end phone is the Lumia 900 at 99 $.
[editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
So for the purpose of any debate about Apple's phones, one can't play the "Overpriced" card like one would easily be able to for tablets or computers.
You can still mention general hardware
the iPhone is hardly impressive when it comes to hardware

but it iOS versions of games still are superior thanks to retina support
face it, specs don't matter with phones, what matter is something that will affect everyday usage, and retina does, hence all these games getting special retina support to look better than they ever did

Please refrain from using a marketing gimmick that has no real meaning at all. The SGSIII has sold 20 million alone, and it uses a high-DPI display. If anything, that's a spec. Problem is that Google doesn't demand that apps support every resolution out there, and Android as a whole is very fragmented. What helps with app developement is consistency, and in this department the iPhone wins.

well if you read my post I said that Apple actually makes effective spec changes, apparently even with the SGIII having a high res display that isn't enough to make high res apps
see what I mean? Who cares about hypothetical stuff, I want actual stuff, and Apple has the actual stuff
[editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
I care about real world performance not "Oh you see the SGIII has the potential but never will get it because of OS fragmentation, Google not being strict enough and being some passive fuck, and devs won't do it"

This is a joke right? So retina suddenly repaints your sprite and adds shading and more colors to it? Can't tell if sarcasm.
It doesn't matter what changes, as long it's an iPhone by Apple people will buy it. Just like the iPad and games like Call of Duty and Battlefield
With iOS, you are either building games for 320x480 or retina. You either have a good looking game or a shit one, simple as.
I think you're mixing old iphones with 4. 4 has decent resolution and games do not look like shit.
Article is completely wrong.
What about the people who pirate Windows?
If one could pirate an iPhone, it wouldn't even be able to have revenue :v:
This seems like a shit comparison.

Windows is not the only thing microsoft profits from. I don't even think it profits that much from direct sales. It's mainly OEM and businesses.
Difference between spending £400-500 every year for the same product to spending £30-40.
Apple products have a really good resale value. You can sell a year old iPhone for probably 75% of what you originally paid, then you can use that money to buy a new iPHone.
Except they update them every time. They don't do major design changes.
the vast majority of Windows profit is from prebuilt computers. A very tiny percentage of Windows users actually ever install an OS, most just get a new PC if they want newer Windows (which is why there are still people on Vista, they don't wanna buy a new PC yet but won't ever dabble with OS installs)

Wait so because a company that did some nasty shit donated to charity, donating to charity isn't relevant to a company's quality? Are you serious

if you actually read between the lines you'd see that I am saying that developers are actually supporting retina, but no one is going to make a higher res app for your GSIII or some other android phone
Wait so because a company that did some nasty shit donated to charity, donating to charity isn't relevant to a company's quality? Are you serious
it's not just "a" company, lots of awful companies donate to charity
it's still irrelevant to calling people dumb for having an iphone, see the post where i say it's petty, childish, and embarrassing to read

Not true, the game I'm working on supports all the 1280x720 resolution screens (higher res than retina) and I'm pretty sure a few of the games I've played have too.

well it sure isn't enough
and PPI matters more than res anyways, my galaxy nexus isn't as high PPI as a 4S, even if it's screen res is all super high anyways
[editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
heck does the GSIII still use pentile screens? if so it's actually inferior to the 4S still, since it uses 2 subpixels instead of one
yep the gsIII still does
typical, try to have the best res and ppi at all costs, even if it means lower actual quality
it's not just "a" company, lots of awful companies donate to charity

So? If a company donates to charity that's a good thing, Apple was under a lot of fire for not donating to charity despite their massive profits, and I think that matters. I don't think that alone is enough reason to refrain from buying their products, but I don't think it's reasonable to simplify someone's opinions from
"There's a lot about this company I don't like, and so I don't want to buy their products"
to
"lol not buying an apple product because no charity"

Yeah my sister's 4S feels allot better than my galaxy nexus, the 4S uses pure aluminum, the nexus uses a variety of cheap plastics
Samsung is just your typical knock off asian brand tbh

I have a Galaxy Nexus and I'd disagree. I like mine way better than my brother's 4S, and call it cheap plastic all you want but it's still sturdier than the 4S and I much prefer it.

Well I wouldn't ever buy a pentile screen phone ever again, that stuff is substandard to save battery life, I mean all other lcd's use 3 subpixels not 2...

That's fine if you don't like it, but personally I've never had a problem with it. The screen looks great to me, and if it means I also get some extra battery life out of it then fucking amen to that, smart phone battery life is like trying to power an 18 wheeler with an AA battery.

Well, both versions of the Galaxy Nexus have a higher capacity battery than the 4S AFAIK so that would be bizarre. What comparison shows the 4S having better battery life?

uh specs don't matter with phones, remember? iOS is custom tailored to a few sets of hardware, the OS is built with the limitations in mind
Android is not very well optimized

Saying specs don't matter is beyond ridiculous, I'd love to see an iPhone with a 20kHz processor. You can argue how much they matter, but either way, why are you responding to my request for the apparent comparison with nonsense? I'd be interested in seeing it if it's actually legitimate.

well duh if you go to such low levels of course it matters
but what coporation would release a smartphone with a 20KHz cpu?
