I always wondered what would happen if something like this happened. Cops in this state (GA) are ass holes, especially when you get closer to Atlanta.
Can't argue that the cop was a dick. He probably had many similar excuses to get out of a ticket.
Previous actions of others should not influence how you approach a new situation. Being screwed over in the past by others is not an excuse to do the wrong thing in the present. Look at the evidence provided objectively, then make a decision. The only logical course of action is to provide a police escort and then simply follow them in. It should quickly be apparent whether they are telling the truth. Worst case scenario, they are lying and you write them an even nastier ticket or arrest them upon arrival. Best case scenario, they are telling the truth and you help them get there faster.
You can see if he's a bullshitter when you get to the hospital. That'd make too much sense though.
He should have wrote him a speeding ticket and escorted them to the hospital. What a prick
He could have called for an ambulance instead, could he not? I mean, no matter what, he was still speeding. Of course he's going to get pulled over if the police spots him.
ambulances dont just warp to where you are and then warp you to the hospital, they take time to get there also ambulance rides are expensive
Obviously what is to be taken away from this is that clinics and hospitals need to give out certification for illnesses when you're diagnosed. That way when you get pulled over and asked for certification of cancer, you can whip out the card, the cop can be all "carry on and try not to hit anyone" and this whole thing is avoided. :v:

The closer you get to the center of the city, the meaner they get.
ambulances dont just warp to where you are and then warp you to the hospital, they take time to get there also ambulance rides are expensive
my mum's ambulance ride a few months ago was just over $6000
ambulances dont just warp to where you are and then warp you to the hospital, they take time to get there also ambulance rides are expensive
If it's chest pains, they usually tend to hurry the fuck up in getting to you. Trust me, i've seen this first hand on how fast they will go to respond to a "chest pain" call. If they suspect there is an issue with your heart, or an issue with your respiration, it usually calls for some quick ass responding. [editline]20th October 2011[/editline]
I don't know what the standard is in the US, but in Britain an ambulance is required to get to a patient within 8 minutes for chest pains.
it's pretty similar here too with the respond time here from my experience.
my mum's ambulance ride a few months ago was just over $6000
Loadsamoney avatar :v: Anyways, what a dick. Of course this is only one of a few cops, for every dick cop in America, there's x10 more great cops to replace them.
There needs to be some international handsign you can display when being followed by the cops if speeding that indicates you're in a situation where you have to speed. They'll follow you, and later on if they've figured out you've sped without a proper reason to speed (wife in labor, medical emergency), you'll recieve a fine for faking this event and for speeding.
44mph? Hell, if that was my wife I'd be doing 90 all up in that shit.
44mph? Hell, if that was my wife I'd be doing 90 all up in that shit.
Metro Atlanta is all hills and curves. If you floor it on a back road you are going to loose control.
This reminds me of the video when some guy tried to drive his sick dog to the vet but a cop stopped him and the dog died. I can't find the video right now.
This isn't the first time and this certainly won't be the last time. There are some cops that (Thankfully) follow protocol to the letter. Those kinds of cops will inevitably will do something like this but when they also tazer someone instead of shooting someone we'll be thankful.
If your a cop and you see a car going about 20 miles above the speed limit, you pull them over. You don't have this magical device or list of people who are having emergencies. And think of it this way, how many bull shit excuses have you used to get out of a ticket? I don't blame the cop for asking. Yes, they would escort you if you were in a visible emergency, but for all he knows she is faking a moan or something to get out of paying some money.

Sure he could escort them, but he's just a human and can possibly make mistakes. Accidents happen, it's not like he intentionally stopped them and waited for his wife to die or anything.
The cop would probably call for backup and soon you'd have an entire swarm of police. However that might clear the roads a bit for you to get there.
What you do is call 911 and tell the dispatcher what's going on and why you aren't stopping. Ideally, they'd then relay to the officer to follow you to the hospital, worst case scenario the dispatcher tells you to pull over anyway but at least you're that much closer to the hospital when you have to stop, if you aren't there yet by the time it reaches that stage.
He was speeding, the cop was kind of a dick but you don't ignore someone who's speeding. How was the cop meant to know she had breast cancer?
He was speeding, the cop was kind of a dick but you don't ignore someone who's speeding.
When he was being a dumbass asking for papers that cancer patients never carry with them (or for that matter even have) because why the fuck should they.
Because a lot of idiots would try to fake the papers :v:
Metro Atlanta is all hills and curves. If you floor it on a back road you are going to loose control.
I LIVE in Metro Atlanta. Doing 90 IS possible as long as you're not a total idiot about it.
It's still better to escort them regardless, it's better to have a False Positive then the worse happening.
"THE COP WAS DOING HIS JOB, WHAT AN ASSHOLE, HANG THE FUCKER!" The cop could've handled the situation better but it never states who the cop was or anything. It could've been a rookie cop with really no experience before hand.
I LIVE in Metro Atlanta. Doing 90 IS possible as long as you're not a total idiot about it.
Have you not gone past Macon? Its all fucking hills until you hit Macon then your basically at sea level.
