• Rio state declares financial emergency, requests funding for Olympics

This entire scene with the Olympics and that ol Zika thing going on makes it so sketchy. Why are they still doing it over there, is it like a final grasp at fixing their country/economy or something?
They heard Rio de Janeiro is the greatest city in South America and failed to realize that the greatest city in South America is still worse than a good city in Europe or North America.
That's a myth. São Paulo, for example, is far more wealthy, more populous, and has already hosted the World Cup 2 years ago so they have some of the infrastructure to hold an event of this size already. Rio has, well, Cristo Redentor, and more slums. Rio is a more touristic city, but far from the greatest (To me the greatest is Buenos Aires, but that's also up for debate). Also, you'll be surprised by just how modern some South American cities are. Sure, cities like Caracas will stay shit while ruled by shit governments, but Buenos Aires, Santiago and São Paulo are perfectly fine cities.
Next Olympics are in Tokyo, and the Olympics after that will be either Paris, Rome, Budapest or Los Angeles - should be cool
That pic of Sao Paulo looks like the background image you would see when you hit a new era in a 4X game.
I've heard the World Health Organization has called for the Olympics to be held elsewhere, but they already started building the stadium so moving it now would be hilarious
Since people brought this up I'd like to clarify some stereotypes
Even Natal - Brazil could do a better job [t]http://www.segurodeautomovel.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/seguro-carro-natal.jpg[/t] [t]http://amzcomunicacao.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/energia1.jpg[/t] [t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Natal,_Brazil_-_Arena_das_Dunas.jpg[/t] [t]https://theweeg.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/ponte-newton-navarro-fotos-ac3bareas-de-natal-fotos-ney-douglas-_-novo-jornal-251.jpg[/t]
that's some insane cherrypicking
Yeah if you search Sao Paulo on Google images you don't have to scroll down very far to see slums and one of the recommended searches is even "Sao Paulo favelas"

The Olympics would be better if they were held at my fucking house as opposed to Rio. I'm eager to see the travesty that is the Rio Olympics. Maybe in the new Mario and Sonic Olympics game coming out they'll both die of some water-based disease.
The heavy investment has to be the main reason for not pulling out of Rio.
