Harriet Tubman to replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill

This feels like a very disingenuous social justice ass kissing type of thing to do. Black people have been mad lately, let's put a black person on money. That's what it feels like to me. Why not Rosa Parks? I'd say she had a bigger hand in the civil rights movement just because of what happened because of her
I'd rather terrible facts about how ridiculous our country is be printed on money instead, though. Too many of us think we're the greatest country on earth and really need to be knocked down a notch
'Did you know, the United States shot down a civilian airliner killing 290 people in 1988 and refuses to apologize'
I don't like those designs because they are vague and largely unappealing. If I see a Lincoln, I know it's a $5 without looking at the corners. If I see...unintelligible blobs of some sort, it's not quick and reactive.
they're not perfect but the current ones aren't exactly intuitive either. american money is hell for anyone not used to it

The only there were a way we could make something that could reflect specific wavelengths of light, and then modify our eyes to be able to be distinguish these wavelengths at a glance, then it'd be much easier to tell money apart all those times all four corners are obscure but the middle is still visible.
Former Presidential Candidate Dr. Ben Carson hate the idea and prefer Harriet Tubman on the 2 dollars bill

Are you saying that if it were Rosa Parks instead you wouldn't have a problem with it? It suddenly wouldn't be social-justisy? Cause I have a very hard time believing that.
Also Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks were two very different people from very different times, comparing their deeds is completely useless. Unless you're only doing that because they're black women, which carries a whole load of problems for your argument.
Honestly, I would prefer having people of the wild west decorate our dollar bills.
Annie Oakley, Wild Bill Hickock, Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid, and several others.
It just feels it would fit the American spirit more of doing what it takes to survive, and making your dreams come true.
This is probably going to be a placeholder until Obama dies so he can be on a bill because "my first black president"

Obama would be a much better replacement than Tubman.

How does risking your life and freedom to grant slaves their own freedom not part of the american spirit? "Land of the free"?
like how are people who shoot dem gurns real real gud american but a abolitionist isn't
you don't understand, the american spirit is all about murdering people in cold blood for personal gain
Annie Oakley
Please tell me how a competition shooter has more value than someone who went out of their way to free those in bondage. Please try to justify this choice sanely.
I think people care way more about the issue than they should, but I'm happy to see Jackson get kicked off in some form, 'cause fuck Jackson.

To be fair, the color is also a good representation of what you're looking at rather than a bunch of olive-colored papers

Also shooting the fuck out of people who annoy you or because you just needed to shoot a person today

I wonder what Billy the Kid would think about having his face on the very currency he spent his life robbing from people.
I think I know what you mean though. I'd rather have general folk heroes on our money if we were going on that route, to be honest.

I have never stated I'm against Harriet Tubman have I?
I'm stating I'd in general would like more American folk heroes over presidents, military leaders, ect.

yes instead of putting tubman on the bill let's put an actual felon and repeat murderer instead

genuinely curious do you even know who harriet tubman is?

i mean i shouldn't be surprised that FP's resident conservatives think that someone who risked their life to fight against one of the biggest blights in american history and was also a Union scout, spy, and raider is lame
it's pretty much par for the course at this point
I don't see why everyone is jumping down JoeSkylynx's throat, I think folk heroes are really cool idea for money. Sure they aren't more important than most real historical figures, but it sure would add a lot of character to our currency.
Not sure I would call Mr Kid a folk hero, he basically shot people cause a rich dude told him to, and then shot other people cause he wanted to, just cause ol Pat was a douche himself doesn't really excuse the behavior.
The others, sure, though Hickock is more akin to putting Kanye on money, he ain't done a damn thing that A someone else hadn't already done or B is doing better, but he sure as hell promoted the fuck out of how awesome he was.
I wouldn't be opposed to putting Kanye West on the $20 bill.
I wouldn't be opposed to putting Kanye West on the $20 bill.
Why not 50 Cent.
I wouldn't be opposed to putting Kanye West on the $20 bill.
It's an inevitability after he gets elected in 2020 really.
I'm not sure why we put political figures on money to begin with. You'd think since it's something everyone has to use you'd want to keep it as politically neutral as possible, but instead we literally plaster politicians on all of it, with "IN GOD WE TRUST" to boot.
Eh, a very boring choice in my opinon. Lots of better choices out there.
not as lame as jackson lol
if i had to choose someone that was cool it'd be Teddy Roosevelt
Either of the Roosevelts really.
They both did wonders to the economy and banking system. Still, Tubman's a good choice.
If they're keeping Jackson the reverse side can they put Aaron Burr on the reverse of the $10?

the wild west is great, i love it. but only when we're talking movies, games, and romanticized storytelling in general. recognizing the values of murderers, rapists and thieves as something to look up to is something else entirely
there's some fucking sick concept art for the new 20s though

I like my currency when it retains it's worth.
