...Someone posts almost exactly the same thing as me and gets more winners than I get dumbs What is this I don't even
It wasn't all that similar and ratings are meaningless
Part of me would rather die than live wearing a pair of arms removed from someone else's corpse.
What a ridiculous thing to say. The soldier lost all four limbs. He didn't just lose his legs, or one of his arms; he lost everything. Imagine living the rest of your life without any limbs. If I were in that situation, I wouldn't even bat an eye. I'd sign up for that operation immediately. Besides, it's not as if they just hacked off the arms from a mildly decomposed body. These are from a donor.
War does a great job of inventing awesome new things.
No it's actually the scientists doing that.
Part of me would rather die than live wearing a pair of arms removed from someone else's corpse.
Enjoy being a quadriplegic, then. If you like quite literally laying around - for the rest of your life (save for the occasional person pushing you around in a wheelchair) - then say fuck the operation and go insane in your own head.

Though this is amazing, I still want to see them putting more work into those robotic limbs. Seen some pretty awesome stuff on YouTube.
War does a great job of inventing awesome new things.
I don't see why people rated you disagree. War is good for technological advancement. The very device you are using to view this device was rapidly developed and funded because somebody wanted to know enemy secrets.
Is it actually possible for him to learn to use his hands? This is crazy.
Yeah man thats you know, one of the big pluses of getting a new limb, it works and stuff.
Limb transplants tend to get rejected eventually though
Limb transplants tend to get rejected eventually though
A lot do because the body attacks the foreign limb. The successful transplants pretty much get the host assimilate the limb, as it was his own.

Not everyone wants to become an unusual feat of medical science that makes them merely resemble a shadow of their former life either. The whole idea is going to be just creepy and unpleasant if you end up thinking about it too much, which is probably going to happen a lot if your condition has given you depression. Its not ridiculous at all that I wouldn't want to have a piece of an animated corpse attached to my body.
wait. they gave him new usable arms? from a dead person?
If they gave him a new breastbone, he'd have a DEAD MAN'S CHEST Baaaaaaaahahahaha
Why bother with mechanical limbs if we got transplants
Wait when the fuck did this shit become possible? Does this mean robot arms are totally possible now?
Wait when the fuck did this shit become possible? Does this mean robot arms are totally possible now?
These are real arms.
Wait when the fuck did this shit become possible? Does this mean robot arms are totally possible now?
Sadly no, They are just transplant arms that have fairly similar structure to the patients body. Same blood type and whatnot. The hands still have nerves muscles and so on. So just connect the shoulder muscles and nerves and hands should work fine. This usually takes even years of time to work something like normal hands. We have been able to attach severed thumbs and fingers for quite a time already. Just that the success rate is getting better and better by time. So we can transplant even larger parts.
wait. they gave him new usable arms? from a dead person?
Possibly from one of the dudes he killed too. [editline]30th January 2013[/editline] Also I seriously did not think we would be able to transplant full organic arms before being able to do autonomous robotic arms.
Wait when the fuck did this shit become possible? Does this mean robot arms are totally possible now?
To be honest, this is better than robot arms. While robot arms sound cool in science fiction and shit, I think a vast majority of the population would rather live on with normal limbs instead of synthetic ones. The only reason robot limbs would be better than organic limbs would be if they'd militarize it or use it for other special needs.
Masturbation is probably really awkward for him now
That is probably why he's busting his ass to recover and develop full use of his hands. I know that would be my #1 priority...
wait. they gave him new usable arms? from a dead person?
A donor. So the person chose to be a donor before dying. It's probably a relatively common thing now (not arms necessarily, but everything else vital to survival).
Masturbation is probably really awkward for him now
"Can I get a girls arms? At least the left one please?"
wait. they gave him new usable arms? from a dead person?
No, they just grabbed a person from the street and lopped his arms off. Of course the donor is dead.
he's my hero
Yeah but somebody has to die for this guy to get new arms, where as you could just manufacture mechanical arms.
People with perfectly working arms die every second. He's just talking as a matter of preference, but so far we have a stronger hold on body part transplants than we do on prosthetic, robotic, fully controllable limbs anyway.
Most transplanted limbs become rejected after a year or two, lets hope this guy pulls through. That's a very large portion of limb that needs to be assimilated into his immune system.
It's only a matter of time before we start seeing people with 4 arms and 6 legs...
cadavers are the unsung heros of the operating room i salute thee, our cold, dead brethren. though you don't know it, you've done us favor upon favor without anything in return. from crash tests to cosmetic surgeries to noble deeds such as arm transplants, you've been the silent, obedient and amazing guys behind the scenes. fuck yeah corpses
