Well, that would explain this email that just got blasted out to the whole University:
There have been a number of postings hitting University-affiliated social media pages recently promoting an “International Meetup Day on February 6,” planned by an internationally-based blogger named “Roosh V,” who offers extreme writings and thoughts based on his philosophy of Neomasculinity. These event postings suggest that Gibbs Street, outside of the Eastman School of Music, will be a site for one of the 165 national meetup locations planned for Saturday at 8 p.m.
There is absolutely no connection between “Roosh V.” and the Eastman School of Music or the University of Rochester. “Roosh V.” appears to have selected random locations throughout the world for his meetups.
The Eastman School of Music administration and Public Safety are aware of the situation and take the matter seriously. Based on what Public Safety has discovered over recent days, it appears that this is a blogger acting individually and there is little to no real organization to the event. A DPS investigator has consulted with the New York State Intelligence Center and there is no evidence to suggest a gang, group, or organization is involved.
Public Safety has a plan in place to deal with any potential issues Saturday night, including additional officers being assigned to the area. In addition, Public Safety has been in touch with the Rochester Police Department to request that a special detail be provided to Eastman during this time, although the current belief is that this event will not materialize.
Again, please know that the University in no way supports this event and we are doing everything we can to make sure our community members are safe. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call Public Safety at XXXXXXX

Unless there are feminists who want to legalize raping men that have political influence I don't see how this is the same at all.
It's the same (or similiar) situation in that a small number of people (or even a single individual) misrepresent a large number of people with very varied beliefs. The point being made here is that it doesn't matter what Roosh believes, he doesn't represent the larger MRA/MGTOW/Meninist/Whatever group any more so than TERFS or Julie "Put all men in a zoo" Bindel represents all of feminism.
Also, Roosh doesn't have any political influence (he's generally accepted to be a mad person) while it could be argued that some sex-negative third-wave feminists with problematic views do have influence in the media.
Lastly, there are quite a few radical feminists who want to legalize raping men based on their belief that men cannot be raped and always desire sex.

There aren't enough roosh supporters in the world to fill all those places, let alone enough in each area that would leave their homes long enough to attend. It's a publicity stunt.
The only reason Roosh is able to even attempt this stuff is because people keep giving him attention. If everyone just ignored him then he'd probably disappear after awhile.
Pretty sure this was posted on the Edinburgh subreddit, and if I remember people were saying they'd alerted the authorities, who in turn said they've been keeping a close eye on the whole thing for a while, so there's that at least.
I find it a bit weird that they'd choose the Grass Market of all places though, area is a tourist hotspot and there's plenty of people who'd notice people acting out of the ordinary.

If this doesn't end up on the news as "One group of people beat up another group of people". I'd be very surprised.
Could you guys stop saying that ignorning Roosh will make him go away? The man and his followers are a danger to women. Would you want your girlfriend in the same nightclub or bar as the man who thinks rape should be legal? You don't ignore people like that, you call them out for their antisocial behavior so other people can know how fucked up and dangerous they are.
Men face plenty of legitimate issues.

Yes they do but that doesnt make men disadvantaged in society.
In fact a lot of the feminist theory is beneficial to men.
The whole MRA scene from what ive seen is more centered around combating feminism and hating women than dealing with actual men's issues. It's just a crybaby reaction to feminism.
i looked at this guy's website, it pretty much just seems like pure marketing to me. one of the ways he has people verify that they're fans to go to the meetings is by posting a valid receipt of one of his books. making a big shitfit over this is just playing into what he wants by spreading this information around and letting him go "SEE THEY HATE US THEY'RE AGAINST US"

There's dangerous people in virtually every nightclub and bar out there. The only impact Roosh has is gathering a followerbase (using publicity) and selling them books and dangerous ideas.
The real issue is somewhere deeper. What causes men to become antisocial recluses like them who have to prove their masculinity and worth through abuse and manipulation?
PUA ideals are absolutely despicable and deserving of scorn but vilifying people will only go so far.

By giving him attention you open him up to recruitment. Shit heads like this are better ignored until they violate the law and then you prosecute to the fullest extent.
You don't give them attention because they feed off of it; I remember the whole fucking waste of time it was to chase him outta bars which made him look like a god damn victim.
Like others have said, Roosh isn't any more of a threat then any other shithead in a bar. He just gets off on attention and people react like he's gonna do some sort of terrorist attack for some reason when there's no precedent for it. When people give him attention, it just plays into his marketing and helps him recruit new members (the vast majority of which just need psychological counseling rather than being vilified or criminally arrested).

Like with every other recognizable group of people, it varies. There are some MRA-type people who care about the actual stated issues and some that just care about getting back at some perceived group of 'bad guys'. You see the same thing in pretty much every other political and/or ideological group in existance.
As for why MRAs and Feminists generally come to blows with one another, here's a video on that:

Basically, differences in opinion come from disagreements over things such as the Duluth Model (the standard that police use to deal with Domestic Abuse cases, which essentially boils down to "the bigger, scarier and blacker somebody is, the more likely that they're guilty of whatever crime they're accused of", which is the cause of a lot of racial and gender based profiling) and the Violence Against Women Act (which among other things, entrenches the Duluth Model in law and cuts funding to police jurisdictions who refuse to follow it).
