Shouldn't you be wacking it to Conservapedia?
You can't disprove or prove the existence of god or an afterlife, not with the information we have, so scientifically agnosticism is correct not atheism.
I can disapprove Christianity.
lol why do you assume that I meant completely abolish religion and ban the freedom of believing in whatever the shit you want to believe in
all I meant was to not allow religious extremists to forcefully spread their hateful message via shit like brainwashing their children into their dumb beliefs that later on completely fuck the child up. I'm all up for people having the freedom of believing whatever the fuck helps them get through life but a line must be drawn somewhere.
Freedom of speech must be equal or it's not freedom of speech.
Shouldn't you be wacking it to Conservapedia?
I don't know what that is.
My point is, in being as arrogant as much of FP is about Religion, they're really just lowering themselves to Fundamentalists level.
As a Christian, I respect Hawkings Right to make this statement, I politely disagree, the notion of an afterlife serves to comfort some people. Hawking isn't knocking on their door and shouting;
"You're going to Rot into the earth and there's no god!"
I don't need to. Take a history class. There's your "credible argument"
Oh and everyone please stop rating me dumb. I just care so much about others opinions, especially ratings, that I feel everyone hates me, so please stop :sigh:
Because again you've failed to provide an argument. If anything your "history class" is a rubbish argument since if you remember it was infact the Church which helped take down many dictatorships in Southern America through liberation theology and lended it's support to the Polish trade unions leading to the downfall of communism. Thus following your line of logic we can conclude that religion causes all conflict and that it is bad yes?
I can disapprove Christianity.
I can dissapprove your grammar.
Apparently religion kills people. I was under the impression that people killed people.
You learn something new every day.
Ah, the good ol' "People don't kill, guns do" routine.
You're right and you're wrong. Religion influenced and continues to influence (to a degree) people to kill others "in the name of God".

It's bad, yes. It's so very very bad :allears:
It makes death less scary though. :smith:
Freedom of speech must be equal or it's not freedom of speech.
What about freedom of thought. Children who are sent into Jesus camps or home schooled by Christian extremists dont usually have the mental will to question the ideals they have been brainwashed into since the day they were born.
No but the default position when you've got no evidence of something is that it doesn't exist until you find some evidence.
It's called a theory; not fact.
You can't disprove or prove the existence of god or an afterlife, not with the information we have, so scientifically agnosticism is correct not atheism.
The fact that we can't disprove something doesn't mean it's 50/50.
Agnostic atheism would be the correct position.

Just gonna say, you don't know what you're talking about.
I'm an atheist. Am I trying to dissaude you? No. But if I do make a statement about a subject you find to have religious views on me, is it wrong that I'm saying it?
It's called a theory; not fact.
Do you know what a theory actually is? A theory isn't a last nights drunken idea. It's not a loose hodgepodge of ideas redBadger, it's a well supported and highly credible, flushed out, and supported by a network of information. A theory is one of the highest forms of knowledge science has. If it's just a theory, then it's a hell of a lot better off than what I thought it was
why are you chronically one of the most uninformed posters I see

Not at all? I fully respect your right to say that, even if I don't agree with it personally. You're not forcing it down my throat though.

Religion has been used as an excuse to kill people. It has no literal influence on anybody.

I'm not defending brainwash camps so why are you going there? Brain wash camps are different than freedom of speech. Why you'd lump them together is beyond me.
It's called a theory; not fact.
There are no "facts" in science. The closet you can get is a theory or a law.
Not at all? I fully respect your right to say that, even if I don't agree with it personally. You're not forcing it down my throat though.
People on both sides shove shit down peoples throats. That's human nature more than it is atheist or religious nature.
It's called a theory; not fact.
You do not know what theory means.
the·o·ry

1.
a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanation for a class of phenomena: Einstein's theory of relativity.
Theory, at least in scientific terms, is about as "factual" as you can get.
People on both sides shove shit down peoples throats. That's human nature more than it is atheist or religious nature.
Yup. My rant had no basis, sorry, wasn't thinking. :frown:

I'm the last person to defend religion, and I'm not even defending religion here, seeing as they've done a lot of bad over a lot of years and influenced a lot of ignorance and stupidity around the world, they're not the centre of evil on earth. They're a tool of mass manipulation, perhaps, but at the heart of it, it's a persons choice to believe in something. What they believe in isn't really right but who is anyone to say that they can't believe what they want to? What needs to change is that people need to be less radical in their isms. Of all sort. Your isms too.
Just gonna say, you don't know what you're talking about.

Um, wha? Sorry but you'll have to word that in a different way. My primate brain isn't that effective at sorting out sentences like that, lol.
I gotta say, I'm somewhat surprised at your reactions. Facepunch, being full to the brim of atheists, seem to be assembling into a murder of crows to peck at me. Keep doing it, it's turning me on.
I'm not defending brainwash camps so why are you going there? Brain wash camps are different than freedom of speech. Why you'd lump them together is beyond me.
You mean the exact same camps that teach the kids that our lord and savior Jesus Christ is someone we should adore and cherish until the day we die, and that all other religions are false and stupid? I brought it up because it's one of the (arguably many) ugly faces of religion.
That's an insult to fairy tales.
They are cave stories.

i don't know if you're trolling or starting some e-drama but you're doing it well.
Spoken like a true scientist; only he who can factually explain the non-existence of something, is the one who is correct. Stephen Hawking has overcome the religious pressures of society to speak what few believe and what id most likely, the truth.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110516/us_yblog_thelookout/stephen-hawking-says-afterlife-is-a-fairy-story
That's a bad analogy, even if you disconnect all the parts of a computer the data is still in the Hard Drive :v:
Not that I disagree with him.

No, Cave Stories are awesome. This is an insult to Cave Stories.

I'm not defending fucking brainwashing camps. Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot those were the essential face of a religion. The "square one" as it were.
Religion is a personal choice, and those brainwash camps are highly regarded to be fucked up by a LOT of religious people. It's a sad side of things, but by no means am I defending them, they exist. They're wrong, and they'll exist as long as people have a reason to claim "we're right, you're wrong". I'm not defending ANYTHING but the personal choice of a belief. so fuck off.
Completely irrelivant, but you are one of the very few people that actually knows that a number of crows is called a murder; not a flock.
Um, wha? Sorry but you'll have to word that in a different way. If I am, then it is unintentional. It's just a certain gold member and a certain blue member is choosing to catalyst with my comments, which means it isn't all my fault.
If it's causing a problem, I'll vacate the thread once and for all. I don't like causing negativity anywhere.
