Over here it's a sort of threat you say to your kids. "If you don't behave I'll slap your ass with my belt" or something along those lines. Everyone I know was told this at some point but not one was actually physically harmed.

I do not agree with physical punishment for kids as all it does is teach to respect people who abuse them.
It's not that unusual to hear people say a particularly misbehaved child "needs their ass beat" in the US. To be quite honest spanking as a punishment isn't really that uncommon in the US, especially among more conservative families.

As I've already mentioned, it's really commonly used in Russia.
Getting threatened to have your ass slapped is what's common, what you're talking about is bad parenting.
Good thing all those people died so you could be your own tyrannical leader. Throwing some kids in jail for dancing lets all those people who died horribly rest easy knowing they did the right thing.
Sarcasm.
Obviously these women didn't think so. Is their expression invalid because of "Eastern European culture" or whatever bullshit excuse you want to make for this? Why do people need to obey by some arbitrary cultural standards anyway, even if they do exist?
How did this get so many dumbs? He is fucking right...

Guess I was unlucky then
Pretty disrespectful but they shouldn't be jailed for it
Just 15 days. Duh.
You see, that's the thing, people do not consider that here child abuse, more like a punishment. It's part of the mentality Western people would never be able to understand.
As I've said, Russian mentality is more apathetic and cold, if your child steals candy from local convenience store and you tell him what he's doing is wrong and why doesn't always work. Russian mentality is a stubborn one, that is why it requires people to be led with iron grip in order to remain successful (predates from Mongol-Tatar invasion of Russia, and since then, every ruler in Russia, starting from Ivan the Terrible, going into Peter the Great, Catherine the Second, Alexander Third, Lenin, Stalin, Putin). Moving on that point, I've also been beaten by my Dad a couple of times because I didn't commit to my promises and lied to him a lot. Even though I still do, if he didn't teach me those lessons I'd be even shittier person than I am today, and for that I respect him.

Generalizing, labeling and more generalizing.
This kins of stuff does happen. But its not a universal rule of our mentality.
Like, screw you, "stubborn mentality". Most people I know would have a talk with the kid who stole a candy. And the people who would just beat the kid up? They exist in every country, that's called stupid people.
Russia has the coolest looking war memorials, I swear.

How do you know, even if you are Russian, you don't live there.
Most parents would not resort to slapping nowadays.

Read up about Tallinn and Ida Virumaa's percent of Russian Populace in Estonia. It goes roughly in the 50s figure, its not news there are fully functioning Russian communities in the Baltic states.

If not for generalizing, I cannot say on a family by family basis for obvious reasons. I didnt say everyone are exclusively that way, just that its common, and I find it funny that most Russian Fpers here deny that.

How do you even know it's common? Do you have some official statistics on this or what? Show it then.

I go on different websites, including VK, bash and pikabu and can see apparent patterns. Its hard to ignore that.
