Mitt Romney plans to announce his long-expected U.S. Senate bid on Thursday in his adopted state of Utah with a low-key rollout intended to duck roiling Republican divisions and avoid signaling that he will play the role of foil to President Donald Trump. Wednesday night, however, Romney said he would delay Thursday's announcement because of the Florida school shooting in which at least 17 people were killed. "Out of respect for the victims and their families, I will not be making an announcement tomorrow about the Senate race," he tweeted.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/politics/ct-mitt-romney-senate-campaign-20180214-story.html
Not a giant fan of Mitt but if this leads to a career of wrecking Trump, I'm all for it.
Romney > Trump
We now live in a timeline where people like Romney. Just ponder that for a minute.

I mean he’s not too bad. He’s out of touch and run of the mill conservative but he tends to see problems in things and tries to address them. Obviously were he up against a competent democrat I’d prefer them but if I had to pick a republican at any point here it’d be him
We now live in a timeline where people like Romney. Just ponder that for a minute.
The weird thing about the Republican Party is that every next candidate they offer is arguably worse than the last one. Just imagine if the next GOP presidential candidate makes Trump look great...
Not a giant fan of Mitt but if this leads to a career of wrecking Trump, I'm all for it.
he won't. Utah is the theocratic capital of the GOP, he will run exactly down the line with their socially regressive agenda, at best he is a jeff flake, at worst, another rand paul
That may be impossible, unless richard spencer or steve bannon somehow win the nomination.
a worse Trump would just be Trump except actually competent
from what I recall, Utah's one of the red states that doesn't particularly like Easy D Romney's also not a fan of T-dog, as everyone already knows, so I suppose it's better him than, y'know, a Roy Moore type, or some other degenerate. However, as the article says,
Mitt Romney plans to announce his long-expected U.S. Senate bid on Thursday in his adopted state of Utah with a low-key rollout intended to duck roiling Republican divisions and avoid signaling that he will play the role of foil to President Donald Trump.
so he's probably gonna stop being so vocally anti-Trump, but HOPEFULLY he'll stop flip-flopping for once in his life and actually stick to being such a generic white bread conservative, which isn't the best but better than the alternative type of conservative as much as it pains me to say it, I'll tolerate the Mormons. FOR NOW
Utah had better take a good hard look at Romney's time as governor of Massachusetts before they elect him as their Senate representative
I'm actually rooting for R-Money to win an election this is the worst timeline
This is one seat I can't imagine going to the Dems, even in the flood of 2018. If it does, it shows how much of an embarrassment Trump was to the GOP.
if he gets elected he'll bend over and take donald's dick right in his ass and you're very gullible if you think otherwise

I don't know how to feel about our traditional protestant based religious fundamentalist congressmen being replaced with mormon based fundamentalist congressmen. Sure mormons are nicer and they're friendlier to us hispanics but that's only because they want to assimilate instead of step on us

Sure I'd take a Democrat over him any day of the week, but this will (hopefully) be a prominent voice of opposition from inside Trump's own party.

I don't think I could ever make a vote for someone with religiously based views that they also take into their job as a congressman in good faith anymore. Lesser of two evils is one thing I sort of understand. Lesser of two choices I would otherwise never consider representative of anything I stand for in a million years is another. I'd rather my vote have worth and make me feel like I did something right, not all slimy and regretful because it was an okish choice I guess sorta maybe if I don't think about it too much, ya know?

From how she talks about it there's some obviously sexist shit in their religious doctrine, but no more so than the Catholic Church. Historically they were actually pretty progressive in terms of getting women in the workplace and suffrage campaigns. You should also keep in mind there's a pretty big variation in how devout Mormons are. From what she said the vast majority aren't fundamentalist.

I guess my opinion is mostly down to the idea that I believe there should be a separation between your beliefs and your job at all times. There are Christian scientists but they don't try to insert their views into their findings, they leave their beliefs at the door. When they are in the lab, they are scientists, when they are at home, they leave their job at the door. I think politicians should do the same, because I view it as healthier for them, and for the country. I just don't think I could vote for someone that doesn't represent that view for me anymore.
