The only "clever" thing Hitler did was get himself into a position as head honcho. He made terrible strategic decisions (lol attack Russia whilst we're busy with the western front), terrible decisions regarding funding (let's not fund assault rifles and instead fund V2s, a huge amount of money and work for something that kills more slaves than enemies) and a load of other things. It was his underlings who were responsible for most of it working out for the short period it did. Hell, even his economic policies were terrible. Oh yeah, and genocide of certain sections of your own populace doesn't generally come under good.
He constantly interfered with his Staff strategic plans, dismissed Generals who were critical of Hitler's military orders and set unrealistic goals/orders (especially during the Battle of Berlin). Hell even Stalin banned Communist Party members from interfering with war plans.
source?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fall_Gelb But I shouldn't really have to quote articles to show how much of a poor military leader Hitler was. He too frequently let emotion cloud his judgement, and his decision on a matter could change on a whim. A perfect example is the Battle of Britain - the Luftwaffe was crippling the RAF by bombing the airfields in England. Then, after one bombing raid on Berlin, Hitler swears revenge and switches the entire strategy to terror bombing - effectively sparing the RAF and throwing away any hope of winning the air war.
Hitler could have *barely* held Western Europe for a few years if he hadn't declared war on the Soviet Union.
Interesting sound clip where he discusses with Mannerheim the rationale behind it, and how surprised he is that they are being buttfucked by the Soviets and their bajillion tanks:
Mussolini was a shitlord extraordinaire and it pains me to hear him mention in any good respect apart from the futurist art he inspired

People like Berlusconi make me ashamed and embarrassed to be Italian.
Berlusconi can never get as cool as Mussolini.
It's like he's trying to become a helicopter, he's all like 'THIS TIME FOR REAL DUDES', but he can't and he gets pissed
