What else are people going to do, send angry letters?
Organize support demonstrations showing how we support wikileaks.
This is quite annoying to be honest. I'm actually loosing money at the moment because Paypal is down, and customers are unable to pay their invoices for their orders. ARGH!
What does this organization think they can accomplish by DDoS attacks?
Oh fuck me that wasn't nice.
Fuck me.
This is for the greater good, our freedoms are being taken away as we speak. Governments are slowly becoming more authoritarian and we can't allow that. We need to fight back or simply sit at your desk doing jack shit and watch your freedoms being taken away. By DDoS anonymous is expressing its anger towards the government. If it puts pressure on the financial sector, then the governments should buckle under the pressure. I mean dont they have enough on their plates already?.
It's not an attack, its a form of protest.
Fucking 4channers, always giving the internet a bad name.
God Damn, the internet is stupid as hell. This is a good example of why vigilantism is illegal and retarded.
Illegal and retarded...with potential.
Would be usefull if they kept it up for longer then 3 hours if they want go get somewhere.
api is down now :)

It's like shooting up a school as a form of protest
Actually it'd sorta be smart to buy stocks that drop from this...

Oh god this is the most retarded thing I've ever heard.
No this isn't a form of protest, not even close. It is a attack being organized by some kids that want to be edgy and cool so they just DDoS severs and all that shit. They're attacking businesses that really had no choice in the matter. Instead of taking down Paypal, Visa and MasterCard with some stupid DDoS that is temporary have a real protest. Oh wait you guys can't because it is impossible for them to leave their mothers basement and most of them don't have the balls to go out side and have a simple protest. Also they're not putting pressure on the financial sector, they're just fucking with a few companies which doesn't do a whole lot but besides piss people off.
everyone who supports and keeps this going are children that have no idea how to function outside in the real world. Want to do something about this? Go out side and have a real protest, something that has a underlining goal. Protest without hiding behind a mask or trying to be funny - you act like your all tough shit but when a real protest happens you all hide behind masks. Way to go.
TLDR; this isn't a protest, it is an attack. Something that a child throwing a fit would do.
They're gonna hit twitter next, according by their raid poster.
I have stuff to buy and stuff to tweet about today, ffs.
Oh no, we wont be able to hear about how unfair it is that your mum grounded you.
This is just silly PayPal isn't to blame for this shit.
Are they using a botnet? I mean it takes quite a huge number of querries to bring down a huge site like paypal...
snip
WikiLeaks fanboys & warriors such as anonymous are massive tools and should pull their shit together.
I'm pretty sure it's all a black flag operation anyways.
Are they using a botnet? I mean it takes quite a huge number of querries to bring down a huge site like paypal...
basically a voluntary botnet, it's called Hivemind LOIC, which is a variant of old LOIC which floods packets to the target site. Hivemind's only difference is that the server provides targets, so only thing you have to do is to open the program and let it do it's magic.
My friend linked me to the 4chan's Operation Payback site. I don't think I can link it because it'd be considered helping raiding, right?
There's a difference in protesting, and throwing molotov coctails.
Massive online petition is protesting, DDoS'ing sites is throwing molotovs.
That said, I find the current situation slightly amusing, but also annoying.

LOIC can be used as a part of a voluntary botnet or manual mode.

Defination of protest;
"A protest expresses a strong reaction of events or situations. The term protest usually now implies a reaction against something, while previously it could also mean a reaction for something. Protesters may organize a protest as a way of publicly and forcefully making their opinions heard in an attempt to influence public opinion or government policy, or may undertake direct action in an attempt to directly enact desired changes themselves".
They are "attacking" businesses that could of stood up and decided to not restrict free speech of julian assange. I don't know if, you know that paypal has shut down all funding of wikileaks because of government oppression. By attacking Visa, Pay Pal and mastercard the purpose behind said"attack" as you put it. Is to make the government realise that the people are NOT happy with the way julian and wikileaks are being treated. There are plenty of wikileaks protests going on if you are not aware if you werent so google impaired. I understand small buinesses may be affected by this endavour but sacrifices must be made in order to get an opinion across to the government. They are NOT listening to us therefore we have to use substantial measures in order to achieve our goal.
I have gone to protests at various places you are merely just merely misinformed and google impaired. You can sit there in your chair and do nothing about it. But i will..
I think that wikileaks has a right to publish articles that bring light to injustice but not ones that can threaten the safety of the general public. A totally transparent government isn't feasible and Julian Assange is pretty much threatening the US with it's insurance files.
He shouldn't be executed but he shouldn't be called a divine savior.
That said this probably has jackshit to do with Wikileaks and more about anonymous wanting to raid just for the sake of being anti-social twats.
possibly the most sensible opinion I've heard about this whole thing.
Wholeheartedly agree.
Of course they did. Whoever told you otherwise is retarded. You can't just steal people's money because the government told you to stop providing that person service.
Actually Paypal's TOS allows them to freeze any funds on your account since it's "Paypal credit".
They aren't forced to return it, ever.

ok I haven't used LOIC so I only know what my buddy told me

And just like protests, neither the government nor the industry gives a fuck about petitions.
Apparently Paypal's given Wikileaks the money that was on Paypal.
No credible sources as of yet though.
http://emoney.allthingsd.com/20101208/paypal-releases-funds-to-wikileaks-as-supporters-strike-back/
they gave back the funds but the account is still frozen
Are they using a botnet? I mean it takes quite a huge number of querries to bring down a huge site like paypal...
like some people said, they're using the hivemind (with around 2k bots) but that one is small. some people are using their own botnet with 30k bots, and some people are attacking manually
iirc visa.com was attacked by 60k+ bots
And just like protests, neither the government nor the industry gives a fuck about petitions.
That's because those petitions weren't big enough.
There is a reason i said Massive Petition
This is ridiculous. Sure Wikileaks is doing something which is good, but people are looking up to Julian as if he was god himself. DDoSing PayPal and MasterCard isn't helping anything. In my opinion it just seems childish.
Rage against the machine.
This is getting monotonous, this will not accomplish anything, other than pissing people off.
Well their top targets are the FBI I think, so this could go somewhere if they work there way through their targets.
Organize a boycott of Paypal, and try and get businesses to realize why dealing with them is bad? Nah
Try to raise public support for Wikileaks and get more businesses/people to support them? Nope
Actually do something against the root cause of the problem? Pff
I'VE GOT IT!
LET'S DDOS PAYPAL AND PISS OFF THOUSANDS OF END USERS! THIS WILL SURLY BOLSTER SUPPORT FOR WIKILEAKS!
Zomg assange r my hero cuz im an angsty teen 4chan /b/ro! XD
:v:
