You know guys, i consider myself a perfectly reasonable person that normally wouldn't condone stupid stuff like this. But guys, the time has come for some real change, change that will hurt a bit but will ultimately benefit us all.
So you guys can't transfer money over the internet? West african countries are suffering under corrupt governments fuelled by american oil companies, companies whose practices wikileaks just exposed to the world. Stop whining over the minor discomfort this is causing you, it's for a greater good.
I'm willing to give up some of my comforts to gain some truth. Truth that is much needed in a world like this.

Would you care to explain how ddosing a business is going to bring about a revolution in the world?

It's all about securing the continued existance of wikileaks by letting other banks know that sucking the dick of felonious governments isn't the right thing to do. Nobody likes a turncoat, you know.
Sometimes you have to play hardball, because these people speak no other language than money and force.

Ok so explain how this would garner any support among the people, then?

Wikileaks already has a following of people that understand the importance of its work.
The most important thing right now is making sure those people can get their money to them to keep the servers up.
Hopefully, the rest of the world will see the importance of WL's work in time.

I wouldn't bet on it if the supporters of wikileaks make themselves out to be a bunch of cyber-thugs.

The ends justify the means. This is bigger than a couple of spoiled westerners not being able to pay their bills. You know people are getting their entire lives ruined by corrupt and despotic governments fuelled by dishonest and ruthless corporations, you don't care about them?
It's like when you read in the newspaper about hundreds of people getting killed in huge riots in africa caused by rigged elections and so forth, but you think the whole world grinds to a halt when part of your modern life is temporarily halted. We're fucking spoiled man.

You're utterly missing my point. Wikileaks needs supporters. Shutting down one of the largest banking sites in the world, used by millions of people, is not going to get them supporters. All your bluster about despotic governments will not change this fact.
I like the way they called the Group "Operation Payback", not Anonymous.

"bluster".
Sir, you need to gain some pespective. Infact, most people do.

It's funny how completely you miss the point. Answer how this will get supporters or help wikileaks. Wikileaks needs support more than money.

I disagree, if wikileaks can finance their site and keep publishing documents that make headlines, the supporters will come. I don't think you guys understand how serious the situation is for WL, it's a non profit organization that lives off donations man.
This will help wikileaks by sending a clear message to the banks of the world: bowing to despotic and corrupt powers is not the right thing to do.

It's a non profit website that has at least 400 mirrors set up by other people. They could easily distribute to the mirrors and do without a lot of server costs. Hell, as long as they continue leaking to the media as well it will be effective, I think more people learn about the leaks through 3rd party sources than by directly reading WL.

WL still needs to keep the anonymous dropbox and independent email adresses up for people to be able to leak to them. This can't be done without money. It's a harsh reality, but a reality nonetheless.

It can be done with less money. You overestimate the costs and underestimate how much attacks like these will turn off the public.
It can be done with less money. You overestimate the costs and underestimate how much attacks like these will turn off the public.
Well i disagree.
If wikileaks has the money they can conduct more serious journalism and actively seek out leakers.
fuck you anonymous
wikileaks is a piece of shit

What? When has a whistleblower organization ever sought out leaks? People give them material, they don't get it.
Anonymous is showing their devotion and support to Wikileaks, for the greater good. Government manipulated businesses must not interfere with the freedom of speech, truth, and journalism. Yea, that's pretty much what these DDOSings are all about.
i really love how all assange supporters rely on these overly vague purple prose generalizations spouting for truth and justice
do any of you have a legitimate reason for this

First of all;
Fuck your greater good. Second of all, Assange has an agenda, so there is NO greater good, and you are stupid to want to give up a service that people use as an income generator and collector, and last I checked, I don't give a fuck about these so called 'suffering west africans', because at the end of the day, if I don't have an income I won't be able to either;
A Watch the news to see the suffering
B Contribute to help
Defination of protest;
"A protest expresses a strong reaction of events or situations. The term protest usually now implies a reaction against something, while previously it could also mean a reaction for something. Protesters may organize a protest as a way of publicly and forcefully making their opinions heard in an attempt to influence public opinion or government policy, or may undertake direct action in an attempt to directly enact desired changes themselves".
They are "attacking" businesses that could of stood up and decided to not restrict free speech of julian assange. I don't know if, you know that paypal has shut down all funding of wikileaks because of government oppression. By attacking Visa, Pay Pal and mastercard the purpose behind said"attack" as you put it. Is to make the government realise that the people are NOT happy with the way julian and wikileaks are being treated. There are plenty of wikileaks protests going on if you are not aware if you werent so google impaired. I understand small buinesses may be affected by this endavour but sacrifices must be made in order to get an opinion across to the government. They are NOT listening to us therefore we have to use substantial measures in order to achieve our goal.
I have gone to protests at various places you are merely just merely misinformed and google impaired. You can sit there in your chair and do nothing about it. But i will..
Nice one on the utilitarianism there. You aren't in the situation that small business owners are in, so really you aren't sacrificing anything. You're just as bad as the fuckers at the Munich Conference of 1938.

Ooh I just thought of a good nazi analogy. Let's call this Cybernacht, because any company that didn't support WL is getting DDOS'd. It's like smashing in their windows but worse.
I don't understand most of you when you're hating toward wikileaks.
No matter what the outcome will be, it will have a positive result to governments throughout the world.
The US will enforce it's censorship even more, making more Americans happy.
Germany will better protect sensitive data's.
Countries that have been spied on by the US take measures.
Result is a better global awareness and citizens that don't trust everything their government says.

I don't see how that's a good thing or how americans would be happy about it
It's kinda like 9/11. They increase the feel of security, not the actual security.

What's the point of fake protection?
What's the point of fake protection?
I'm talking about all the feeling up they do now, at airports and such. Obviously.

Placebo effect is very powerful.
Placebo effect is very powerful.
The placebo effect only works if the receiver is expecting it to work.
