Steven Universe is a show about a bunch of messed up misfit weirdos learning to deal with problems way bigger than they are by growing as people and supporting each other.
They are flawed. They are weak. The show isn't about how people's flaws don't matter, they're about how people aren't defined by them.
it's a really good show which makes it all the more frustrating that tumblr boils it down into "it's a show about a black an autist a midget a fatty and his big nosed indian friend fighting the patriarchy"
like there's a fucking nazi genetic purist in this show and she is measurably smarter than the other smartest character
the point is that there's more to life than being smart, not that bad people aren't smart. I think that shit is really interesting.
Haven't watched the show, but the art style looks good too.
Haven't watched the show, but the art style looks good too.
Which is funny, since I've seen people bitch about the art style and then stand on that as the reason they don't want to watch it.
I hope people don't mind me asking but what specifically makes SU a good show? I watched the first episode of it and felt pretty confused until I had a friend explain to me what it was about. I've been debating watching it again and I'm interested in why people specifically like it.
One of the show's downsides is that A) you can't watch it in random order like most cartoons - it's not strictly in a slice-of-life format, though it has a lot of episodes that aren't part of story arcs or anything, and B) it takes a long-ass time for it to get to anything meaty, story-wise. The first twenty or so episodes are all light-hearted and establish minor things about the world and premise in a bit-by-bit fashion, which means people who are frustrated or confused by the characters being insufferable or goofy and then skip ahead to a later point in the season will be greatly out of the loop. It's only at somewhere like episodes 24/25 that you see anything "heavy" in the story, but fortunately from there it mostly keeps that tone.
Anyway, lot of people like the show because it's character-driven and extremely internally consistent (there's Chekov's Guns fucking everywhere) as well as the... other reasons tumblrfolk like it, which honestly don't detract from the enjoyment for normal people, I think.
Haven't watched the show, but the art style looks good too.
I disagree. I think the artstyle looks really generic and lazy. The animation isn't all that great either.
Granted, I watched only two or three episodes, but I just wasn't impressed or interested in watching more. The main character is obnoxious as hell.
SU fans are the worst, it's like a show almost purposefully made to draw out these kinds of people and group them together into a fandom.
Any of you sane ones are ok but god damn that show is tumblr as fuck.
The first few episodes are really off-model, unfortunately, but the quality picks up later and there's some nice animation; the backgrounds are also pretty nice. IIRC the animators are also the storyboarders, so the show is written with visual stuff/gags/character expressions in mind. It goes back to what I said, the show's got a rocky start for people who are entering with no expectations or negative ones. I had the "advantage" of having been partly spoiled when I began watching it, so I knew there was a payoff eventually and sat through the beginning. If I hadn't had that though, I wouldn't have gotten through the admittedly ridiculous time investment it requires to sit through that rocky start. Episodes are only 10 or so minutes long, but the shit really starts happening 24+ episodes into the first season, which is a hell of a lot.
And yeah, the main character is obnoxious. It nearly put me off too, but he - like many other characters - grows out of it in a way that feels really natural.
I don't know if this has been posted and it's a little bit late, but still worth a watch.
Pretty fucking disgusting that people do this, it's partly why I absolutely despise most of the internet now.
One of the things about facepunch that is pretty unique is that there is no strong sense of hivemind that is in tumblr and other sites. There are definitely more popular opinions than others here, but if you use logic and are morally sound, most people here wont bully and torment you for having a differing opinion. Also facepunch is small enough that the mods have enough control of the situation here
We used to have that for a while, most notably about anime, then furries, then bronies.

That's because unlike tumblr, Facepunch isn't sorted by specific tags which allow you to follow ones you like and blacklist ones you don't. And unlike reddit, there's no upvote / downvote system that puts some posts on a pedistool and hides the others. A post on Facepunch can have a hundred Winners or Dumbs but each one is just as visible as the other, and the ratings were removed in SH because even that was considered polarizing.
You can ignore people you don't like though, but I think we're all just too lazy to bother.
If you have to stick someone on ignore, one has to wonder about your state of being in which words on the internet from someone you are unlikely to ever meet ever cause an actual "physical" reaction.
You can ignore people you don't like though, but I think we're all just too lazy to bother.
everybody who has ever ended up on my ignore list has ended up permabanned so i've taken that as a sign that anyone i would want to ignore probably isn't long for the forums
I think that the heavy moderation on FP renders much of the ignore function obsolete. With something like Tumblr where there's zero enforcement for basic decency the ignore button is almost a requirement.

Considered it when he out right stated he used Tumblr as his source for facts. But at that point I already knew he was going to be banned just from that.

“She should have f***ing killed herself,” agreed another Tumblr blogger.
And SJW/Regressive Left media sites are trying to bury it under "at least it created a ~~discussion~~"
A write-up of the story in Fusion took a shockingly apologetic tone. As in, it apologised for the abusers. “A sizable chunk of the critiques being leveled at Paz are grounded in the very legitimate fear that creative works featuring people of color, queer people, and women are often overlooked and undervalued.”
Acknowledging that Paz’s treatment was “awful and completely uncalled for,” the writer stressed that it’s “not as simple as pointing the finger at the fandom,” citing another writer who lamented the fact that “valid critical discourse” had been “undermined” by “mob fury.”
To what end?
One refutation of any of his opinions sent him into rants and whining spanning multiple pages. The people that agreed with his posts were the likes of max thisispain, zeke and asteroid... aka people obviously shitposting for the popcorn or magical snowflake people who've never spent an hour among other people that wasn't an internet based circlejerk.
Just as easy to simply scroll past the post with the trollbait avatar and over a hundred box ratings then to drop into the CP and futz around.

Not really. It depends on how valid the idea is. Validity is another matter.......

edit: Seems like I'm late. Fuck.
Wow that blog sucks, why is 60% of my screen empty space? The entire right side and then some is just an empty field of blue, while the text is so smushed
that
it
looks

this.
Wow, the compounding shit stacked together there is astounding. I just don't understand. I've seen most the episodes to this and it's fairly good, but how does someone get so invested? I mean, I know it's the internet but I've just never got why people feel the need to harass and go out of their way to berate someone over a cartoon?

That
's Tumblr for
you.
Though seriously, it's probably the single worst social network in existence that's actually widely used. Almost every single part of the user experience is terrible.
That said, I have no idea why so few people make their blog wider than the default.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Many users use (New) XKit to make the site bearable to use, afaik. I'm not sure if that can help with reading though.

Because certain people see the show as "the last bastion of diversity". If someone tries to "take that away", they'll go savage on them.
Edit:
New Xkit is pretty much a must if you want to enjoy your Tumblr experience. Things like Mute, Blacklist and such are godsent. Unfortunately it can't fix bad blog layouts.
Just try and tell me with a straight face you never once considered putting milkandcooki on ignore
I hadn't considered doing that. Then again, I don't really pay a massive amount of attention to whatever shit he says that may be considered completely ridiculous, and even then I rarely get into a pissy fit over that kind of stuff, so I don't know.

I don't know. Validity seems pretty subjective, honestly.
I mean, if we're talking supposably legitimate facts and theories and such, then sure, validity would be objective.
Why are people such cunts on the internet.
