10 years ago it was a big issue when Bethesda charged for skins, called Horse Armor, and now people lap it up as if it's no big deal - and that's just sad. Skins and microtransactions are a literal cancer upon the gaming scene, and it's legit sad to see people lap it up and not realize what they're truly defending - an anti-consumer practice where the consumer is the only one that gets screwed over.
It was a big deal because it was atrociously expensive and useless DLC for a singleplayer game.
In multiplayer games, such as CS:GO, you at least get to show off your stuff. And what's wrong with people being willing to pay a few quid to stand out more, all at their own leisure? You can even sell whatever cosmetics you get your hands on for a profit, if you know how to.
Again, nobody forces you to do this, and it doesn't anyone's impact gameplay, unlike "booster" DLC/microtransactions, whose very existence means the developers have slowed the game down to a grind to encourage people spending money on said boosters, like say Tribes: Ascend. -Those- are toxic microtransactions.
This has to be the crappiest winter sale so far. With them removing the flash deals they have removed the thrill of waiting to see what pops up for cheap next. Now it's just going to be the same meh deals for almost two weeks.
There also is a good amount of games that didn't even go on sale.

Skins are but a stepping stone to those other types (see Payday 2, and its invariably where KF2 is going to end up judging by the Chivalry tie-in). It doesn't matter if you're forced to buy then or not, they're there and they create a negstive community and force within the game, a "haves and have nots", where people are literally paying valve to do absolutely nothing. The fact of the matter is they shouldn't even "exist" in the first place. $400 skins should not exist, microtransactions as a whole should not exist, because companies will continue to try to push the boundries of what's acceptable as long as they exist.
And I can turn your argument in regards to horse armor around to be used against skins. The skins are atrociously expensive (And crates are a form of gambling too!) usless pieces of shit in a game that you already pay for and don't do anything at all.

Honestly daily deals made me anxious, it boiled down to me waiting all sale for something to go really low, or deciding I wanted it after it was at its lowest. Or if I couldn't afford something during its daily deal but I have the money afterwards. It might be less fun now but at least you can do all your shopping first day or have all sale to decide to buy something.
I just tend to be realistic, some games, especially multiplayer games, are a service now and personally I find Valve's method (And ones similar to it) the best way of monetizing the playerbase. I've never felt the need to spend money on any of their games. It if it means getting new free content and updates, it's the price that has to be paid. That's why I don't mind that microtransactions were recently added to Killing Floor 2.
But yeah, if you don't like it, that's fine, but don't call it a blight on gaming. Though there are cases where the community at large would agree it goes too far, like (Like Payday 2). Seriously, fuck Payday 2 and it makes me glad I never purchased a single piece of DLC for that game.
I'm thinking about buying Rocksmith 2014, since I've always loved playing GH and Rock Band which in turn has gotten me a bit interested in guitars. What do you guys think?
did they say why the flash sales were removed?

*Daily deal strikes
*10,000 refund requests
Kinda annoying.
It's a massive South Park episode with SMRPG elements. If you like South Park humor, buy it asap.
Yes. As an RPG it's shallower than the average RPG, but if you treat it as a South Park episode it's epic.

Just letting you know that Tribes got an update two weeks ago, and the game's situation isn't quite like that anymore.

Even years ago in active development, if you kindly asked for a refund on gold they'd give it to you
Probably because the game was still in development and items becoming balanced made players feel shit after using the premium currency
they put a lot of love into the game

I was meant to say early Tribes: Ascend, my bad.
Regardless, yeah, Tribes is a lot better now. I honestly applaud the development team for what they've been through.
damn the trading card prices depreciated fast
i sold a tf2 hat I forgot I had for $5 then I bought a bunch of shitty bargain bin FPS games
So bummed about there being no gimmick this sale. Remove the flash sales, that's good but damn I want my dumb gimmick for every sale (like the video game, the gems bidding thing...)

This year's gimmick is using a feature no one gives crap about.
This year's feature is advertising. Yay!
I think the last time they had a gimmick for the winter sale was the coal stuff.
Since then, they only do gimmicks for the summer sale.

Oh right, I forgot about the gems.
Star wars game collection, is it worth getting or nah
I've been getting mystery cards the past couple days with purchases.
But as of right now, the Steam store doesn't recognize me, despite viewing through Steam...
Steam keeps logging me out when I am going through the [del]trading card[/del] queue. Can't even get through a single queue without 2+ log outs.
You would think by now Valve would realise that maybe getting some more servers at some point could help, sometimes I can't even get through one game in the queue before it breaks.

If you have a guitar and the Rocksmith instrument to USB cable, go for it. It's pretty good for learning songs, and has some fun minigames to help learn some of the basic stuff.
Star wars game collection, is it worth getting or nah
Most of it is worth getting, but if you've already played battlefront, republic commando, and kotor it's probably not worth the price. Those are the highlights and you might even be able to get them cheaper individually.
The fact that they sell Battlefront 2 knowing that theres no MP should be criminal.
Talk about flogging a dead horse. Tribes wasn't even that bad compared to it's contemporaries and I seriously wonder if I played the same game as people who still complain about it years after its been fixed. Shit I paid $30 in beta and spent about $7 worth of the gold I got because I unlocked everything else by just playing a couple hours a day. I very much prefer actively playing towards something I want in a shooter than TF2's drop system or other games locking shit behind ranks.
If you want to complain about locking content off from players behind arbitrary grind walls then I could agree with that but Tribes was far from toxic. It had easily the most fair microtransaction system I've seen in a F2P game, even better than it's predecessor Global Agenda, and I play a lot of F2P games.

The individual games have all been cheaper elsewhere. Only get if you plan on playing most of the games in the bundle. Unfortunately as far as bundles go it's incredibly hit or miss.
A lot of the games in the collection don't even work properly on new systems. Go buy the ones you like from GOG instead
Is there anything good you can get for under $1?
Is there anything good yuo can get for under $1?
Some super cheap games from my library that I've played and know are good:
Spacechem ,99€
Super Hexagon 1,01€
VVVVVV 1,24€
Ratz Instagib 1,19€
Portal 1,34€
And last but definitely not least
Bad Rats ,49€
Eugh, I downloaded and played the demo of Dying Light and it went by without a problem.
Now that I need to go buy some food and intended to buy the full game and let it download while I'm gone, of course Steam Store shits itself and doesn't work at all. Everything else works, except Store.
It always happens at worst times for me, I think I'm cursed. :frown:
I cannot even start Steam anymore.
