thanks for the money lads
The number of butt hurt Bernie supporters is astounding, did you guys really think this wouldn't happen?
I'm stumped at why people are having such a hard time grasping why he did this.
He could have waited at least till after the convention since he promised he would and people were still wasting their money on him.
He hasn't even spent any of the time he had since he won the nomination doing any real advertising because he can't even fund his campaign.
Well according to an email I got from the Clinton campaign he actually raised quite a sum of money recently, 51 million it seems.
Political suicide at it's finest. He was collecting "donations" up to the moment he gave this endorsement and people are going off like firecrackers right now that he didn't support Stein.
Political Suicide would be endorsing a third-party candidate. This is Washington. [editline]12th July 2016[/editline]
I'm stumped at why people are having such a hard time grasping why he did this.
Because people think Hillary is some terrorist anti-christ that hates freedom. You essentially have hardcore Bernie supporters being so ridiculously passionate that they wrap around and end up being more like Fox News. And I'm speaking as a Bernie supporter.
The problem with sticking blindly to your principles is that in today's world it's impossible to get anything done because people will oppose you, both on principles of their own and if they have some other incentive to do so. I believe this is the only thing Bernie could've done to not completely burn his bridges with the Democratic leadership, who already see him as basically an outsider who hasn't been a significant face in party politics up until now, which all but ensured that he would be unable to get the nomination thanks to the superdelegate system. On one side, he compromises by pledging some support to Clinton, the nominee who won the prelims, and on the other, he's still vehemently opposed to the likes of Trump, who in addition to being an unknown quantity, has proposed god knows what kind of stupidity on a number of subjects in terms of his election manifesto, too many to count and too many lies to count. The thing is, it's understandable this will alienate many people who see him as a symbol against the establishment and the corruption inherent to it. No matter how it's spun, a lot of people will see this as a betrayal, considering that Clinton herself is every bit a crook as Trump is, and on top of that, a corporate sellout. I think what he had in mind is that he just wanted to try nudging the party in the direction he wants it to go over a period of time, even if he can't directly contest the presidential elections this time. Refusing to endorse her would've had consequences of its own for his relationship with the democratic party, and running independent doesn't really have very good chances of becoming President with the current two-party system. The problem is, this situation's in such a clusterfuck that there's no accounting for what might've happened if he'd refused to endorse her, or endorsed somebody else as candidate.
Shouldn't have endorsed anyone tbh. Endorsing third party would've split the vote. Endorsing Clinton trashes his own message.
Him not endorsing Clinton would have been effectively the same as criticising Clinton. It's a norm for politicians in these circumstances to endorse people on their own side (which is why almost all of the former Republican contenders have endorsed Trump), because a failure to do so is implying they aren't worth endorsing. And saying that Clinton isn't worth endorsing would be the same as saying the election should just go to Trump (as there are no other realistic candidates for the Presidency). Which is what Bernie has always said that he doesn't want.
Well according to an email I got from the Clinton campaign he actually raised quite a sum of money recently, 51 million it seems.
Regardless of what Clinton campaign sent you, it's a fact that he wasted all of the additional time between him winning and now doing nothing productive. He even had to fire his campaign manager because of it. He might be kicking it into gear now, but now is too late. ALL major democrats including Obama are actively campaigning for her and the email scandal is over.
Political suicide at it's finest. He was collecting "donations" up to the moment he gave this endorsement and people are going off like firecrackers right now that he didn't support Stein.
But he has said since October "I will not run independent if not nominated" going green party is splitting the vote and going independant
I'm so sad Cody isn't here to see this
I'm right here though.
I feel like he's just being pragmatic. He got some concessions on the democratic platform, voting for jill stein is a waste, and Trump would just be disastrous. I'm sure he's happier with a woman who is paid to occasionally be progressive than a right-wing nutter like Trump.
The number of butt hurt Bernie supporters is astounding, did you guys really think this wouldn't happen?
I remember months ago. I said that Bernie would eventually lose, and following that he would endorse Hillary. But everyone here laughed at the idea. You can guess who had the last laugh.
Just because I am kinda fascinated that this presidential election is filled with a load of fuckwits, could someone give an example of a good American president?
Well according to an email I got from the Clinton campaign he actually raised quite a sum of money recently, 51 million it seems.
50 million of that more than likely came from his personal checkbook since last filing he had only raised 1 M$ from donations
Just because I am kinda fascinated that this presidential election is filled with a load of fuckwits, could someone give an example of a good American president?
George Washington? Abe Lincoln? Dwight Eisenhower? three great examples just off the top of my head
Duh. Did anybody really believe differently? Throwing his endorsement to Jill Stein wouldn't just be pointless, it would be actively destructive. While his supporters are obviously free to go vote for Jill Stein if they please, if Bernie raised hell about Clinton and fought to divide the party, it would offer Trump a massive competitive advantage moving forward in the campaign. As much as he dislikes Clinton, he vastly prefers her over Trump. As greasy as she is, her political platform is still center-left, as opposed to the Machiavellian bullshit that Trump is trying to pull. Not winning doesn't mean you have to throw a fit and trash everything.
Just because I am kinda fascinated that this presidential election is filled with a load of fuckwits, could someone give an example of a good American president?
Obama has even if a large portion of the country still thinks he's a Keeenyan out to take their guns and institute white slavery, GH Bush, Nixon if you ignore his paranoia, he signed into law quite a lot of progressive things and was the last real Republican of his line before the party veered hard right for regan Every president has had some large issue they handled wrongly, even GW Bush deserves praise for bucking his party and not blaming Muslims for 9-11 even as he signed off on the largest expansions of the federal police state in history
People are acting like this is a surprise, he said he was going to do it and has been saying it for a while now. Of course he is going to support the person the majority of the party is going to support. Its a move on his part to stay in good graces. He will promote change as he always has. At least now people know his name and know what he is about.
Just because I am kinda fascinated that this presidential election is filled with a load of fuckwits, could someone give an example of a good American president?
FDR was IMO our greatest president, he lead the us through the Depression and most of WW2.
FDR was IMO our greatest president, he lead the us through the Depression and most of WW2.
FDR and Truman are probably the most forward thinking, greatest presidents we have had in a long time. Truman had so much shit dumped on him suddenly, he literally had to stitch the world back together and prevent the entire west from falling to Stalin's armies meanwhile he had to deal with the stirrings of the civil rights movement
Can I say that it's actually really funny how a lot of people here, many of who have probably been Bernie 'supporters' in the past, have turned so harshly against the man after his endorsement of Hillary. What's the go? Ask yourself this: Are you really a pro-Bernie supporter, or are you an anti-Hillary supporter? If your response to Bernie's endorsement of Hillary is to say you'll vote for Jill Stein, write-in Bernie, or vote for Trump (this makes no sense, but many people still say they'll do it), you were never a Bernie supporter to begin with.
Jesus you people, he's just being practical. This is the crux of the two party system - side with whoever has the best chance of beating the person you don't want. It's the same reason why he doesn't intend to go independent, because him going independent or him endorsing someone independent has a good chance of putting Trump in power. Sucks but that's the way it is.
r/SandersForPresident is going nuclear as we speak.
People here are expecting him to endorse Jill Stein? What kind of world you all living in?
If he wants to get anything actually done then he had to support Hilary. A pragmatic choice which will alienate some people, but probably be worth it.
r/SandersForPresident is going nuclear as we speak.

[–]Lightbrand [score hidden] a minute ago I hope Bernie stays clear of this sub from now on. If he dares come here with a "please vote for her" post I hope the mods ban him indiscriminately. [–]unaor [score hidden] a minute ago I lost literally all respect for Bernie today. Fuck off Sanders, who needs another sellout piece of shit? Unsubbing from this shit sub. [–]d3fi4nt[] [score hidden] a minute ago Soo... is there still any point keeping this Subreddit going now that Bernie's officially bailed on us?
Those posts aren't cherrypicked, they were three posts in a row. They're drop kicks, the lot of them. More credence for the theory that most of them were anti-Hillary rather than pro-Bernie
