Always will have a certain level of respect for cosmonauts, if Putin wasn't such a pigheaded show-off who knows what we could be doing together to reach for the stars again. :(
ikr, with russian/american and chinese cooperation there's no telling what could get acomplished and everybody would win, the chinese would have the achievments in space like they want, the russians would have someone to work with, and the US would find backers for our colossal lunar-launch vehicle
cooperation is difficult to hold with a nation which constantly has bullshit coming out of every orifice and goes around annexing ports. are you suffering from chronic russia did nothing wrong syndrome because none of this wouldve happened if russia didnt throw a metric ton of gasoline on a fire.
Can you at least stop throwing accusations left and right? It doesn't help in discussion, and just make you look really immature. And I thought science is not connected to politics in any way, silly me.
The crisis in Ukraine and the sanctions are the direct cause of the deterioration in cooperation in space. http://dailycaller.com/2014/11/17/russia-will-launch-its-own-space-station-by-2017/
oddly enough the crisis in ukraine and the recent antaries failure has given US contractors a kick in the ass that they've needed for a decade now, Rocketdyne has said for years they could produce american copies of the NK-33 engines but now with quality in question and quantity uninsured, they're going to have to actually fasttrack development of american counterparts, engine design is the one place we've sat on our asses for a long time in the US, most designs today come almost directly from the missile races in the 50s and 60s, the engines on the delta heavy are the newest development in US engine tech (not counting space-x) and they are over 20 years old now
And I thought science is not connected to politics in any way, silly me.
pretty sure that's the point he is making, Russia is ending ISS cooperation among other things like nuclear cooperation because of the Ukrainian crisis

And I thought science is not connected to politics in any way, silly me.
no science is unfortunatly completely connected to politics, whatever you want to say, russia did start this fire, now both sides have done a lot to antagonise but its pretty clear that russia has been largely the instigator in all this when there were on numerous occasions where they could have done a lot to calm things down and instead threw another log on the fire
pretty sure that's the point he is making, Russia is ending ISS cooperation among other things like nuclear cooperation because of the Ukrainian crisis
AFAIR it all began when US suddenly decided to not buy Russian rocket engines, because of sanctions. And then it all became a clusterfuck of "answers" from both countries.

Both are countries run by idiots disturbing the work of scientists and astronauts over geopolitics and influence over foreign governments.

Someone needed to end this, but no one did. Like two spoiled children fighting over a toy, until one of them just breaks it, and saying "If I can't have it, neither will you!"
Cooperation should go from both sides. And if they BOTH refuse to cooperate - it's stupid to blame only one side. And what the hell does Ukraine crisis have in common with this?
[BEFORE CRIMEA] US: Say, Putin. We're having a little trouble with our aging Shuttle program, turns out it's not all that safe after all, mind if our astronauts hitch a ride on your rockets? RU: Sure thing, comrade! Always eager to help a friend for betterment of mankind and his search for knowledge! [CRIMEA] US: Uh, hey uh, Putin? Can't help but notice you're tromping all over a sovereign nation and eh, well, that's kinda not cool so if you could just slow down with what you're doing there- RU: I am protecting ethnic Russians in region, is there problem? US: Well you're kinda violating their sovereignty and- RU: What sovereignty? You're crazy, US. US: It's just that we don't want to have to do anything hasty if you're not willing to listen and- RU: You do not like what I am doing?! FINE! You can take trampoline to space station! [AFTER (?) CRIMEA] US: Okay look dude, we see you massing troops on the border and we've seen your horribly photoshopped pictures of what you claim to be Ukraine shooting down- RU: You're STILL going on about that, eh? Well fine! To hell with your space station, we shall make our own!

putin is investing into space. russia needs way more and ukraine can do with way less
There was actually a mistranslation of what he said. What he meant was, "Invest in Putin, not war"
The two shouldnt be mutually exclusive. What we really need to invest in is space war
The two shouldnt be mutually exclusive. What we really need to invest in is space war
A good cold war is healthy for the economy.
Why not go for a middle ground and invest in space war?!?
