Yeah, that's a bit more complicated. 40 minutes lag.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah sounds like a ton of fun, Id rather go sit in the rocket and wait 3 months to get there.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah sounds like a ton of fun, Id rather go sit in the rocket and wait 3 months to get there.
Or you could operate them from a space station, or if we discover superluminal communications then the lag is solved. The thing is, and I know it's silly: Sending RC bodies takes away some of the adventure. I want to actually shake the dust off my boots and sit on some martian hill to watch the sunset.
They're collecting rock and soil samples, not playing basketball. A three second delay really won't make much difference.
We can do that infinitely cheaper with rovers, why the fuck would we tack on this shoddy gimmick? [editline]08:33PM[/editline]
...theres a delay of a few seconds, all they have to do is do the actions slowly and were done. Or we could orbit near the moon and do it that way. Or use the ISS.
"holy shit guys look at me im on the moon AND in the matrix" And all of this to accommodate something WE DON'T NEED.
We can do that infinitely cheaper with rovers, why the fuck would we tack on this shoddy gimmick?
Its obviously to make people happy about giving up millions of dollars to pay for solid gold Mars cars. Not kidding either, NASA actually built a solid gold vehicle for Mars.
Uh, the moon is 375,000 kiometers away. That's 1.25 light seconds. EDIT: Correction: It has to go there and back, so it's 2.50 seconds.
well yes now that way better than 3 seconds 2.50 jesus we should fund this shit right now [editline]08:35PM[/editline]
Its obviously to make people happy about giving up millions of dollars to pay for solid gold Mars cars.
NASA is smart, but it isn't money smart. At all.
[editline]08:36PM[/editline] once again, really let's send astronauts AND robots into space so that we can live out our fucking Avatar fantasies you fucking kidding me
Sounds like a brilliant plan to me.
NASA is smart, but it isn't money smart. At all. In fact it's sort of money retarded.
The gold was necessary. Something to do with heat radiation or something.
The gold was necessary. Something to do with heat radiation or something.
Its fucking SOLID GOLD, seriously are you saying there arent any other materials they could use? Maybe an alloy?
Its fucking SOLID GOLD, seriously are you saying there arent any other materials they could use? Maybe an alloy?
It was just the surface made out of solid gold. I think the thickness was less than half a centimeter. And it HAD to be gold. It's NASA: Everything must be large and expensive. That's why we're still using chemical rockets instead of a Mass-motherfucking-Driver.
That's why we're still using chemical rockets instead of a Mass-motherfucking-Driver.
That technology doesnt exist. Only tech that does is Nuclear, Plasma, and Chemical. If you wanna be really specific its all chemical. :downs:
That technology doesnt exist.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_Driver_1 It wouldn't cost that much, and in the long term it's better than all those chemical rockets which are just digusting when you consider the mass ratio.
Oh yeah that's a great idea instead of spending money on just sending us to these planets we'll spend money on developing the robots, the suits, the software, and then fucking satelites which we will send astronauts into and then launch into orbit around these distant plaents, along iwth other rockets which we will launch onto those planets we will then have the astronauts stay on board the satelites and, instead of having them just go down themselves now that they are already at the planet, we will have them get into costly and impractical suits which will be used to maneuver clunky, failure prone, expensive robots that have now exited the second rocket that hit the planet Do you understand how stupid this idea is or should I go on?
Oh yeah, because getting humans to the moon was so simple.......
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_Driver_1 It wouldn't cost that much, and in the long term it's better than all those chemical rockets which are just digusting when you consider the mass ratio.
Yeah so a railgun, big deal.
in before TH89 banning you.
in before TH89 banning you.
If you are referring to me, its happened before, it'll happen again. :3:
I was actually referring to the OP having everything in his post as a hyperlink, but ok.
Honestly we should just make more rovers, or I guess we could make a quadruped for rocky hills, but a biped? That is just stupid, the engineering that would have to go into making it walk right and not fall all over the place constantly is a lot more money and time than it's worth.
on a shitty gimmick that won't work even if we pull it off?
Uh, it won't work even if they pull it off? How does that make sense?
Uh, it won't work even if they pull it off? How does that make sense?
I lol'd, Good stuff man :)
Nice job comparing it to avatar and then complaining about it being compared to avatar. In regards to the story, one word. Future.
Ya there is no relation to avatar other then the op making it then complaining about his own observation. [editline]07:29PM[/editline]
For those bitching, yes it is an avatar. Avatar = Character controlled by another. This can be related from anything to your MMORPG to a robot.
Hes is making a reference to the movie avatar not the concept of the word.
Actually this might be a good idea expecially if they'll charge people for using it. This would provide NASA the extra funding they need for their projects. It's not that big amount but it's still going to make money.
You dont know shit about science

That technology doesnt exist. Only tech that does is Nuclear, Plasma, and Chemical. If you wanna be really specific its all chemical. :downs:
Hahahahahahahahahaha
We can do that infinitely cheaper with rovers, why the fuck would we tack on this shoddy gimmick?
The rover shit is talking out the ass. They've been testing remote controlled limbs for doing repairs on craft for a while now. It's not like they're trying to send in a fleet of Asimos to the moon, this is more a "stick this on a module so you don't need it to be manned in case you need to plug something in or unscrew something at some point" affair. Though if they do go with the lunar shit they're talking about in the article, you can bet it's going to be cheaper than sending in people, and what kind of nonsense is this that rovers can do everything? There are applications for these beyond what they can do with their karts, otherwise someone in the Fed would be throwing a bitchfit.
