Like we said in the past, we're not saying it's a fee that should need to be payed to begin with, but at least it's not something heinous like 15 dollars a month.
In Microsoft's defence, this is almost what Sony did with the PS Vita. If I want to install my copy of Persona 4 Golden on another Ps Vita, I need to do a factory reset.
Not kidding.
And no, logging onto another account on my Vita won't work, and no, logging onto my account on another Vita won't, either. It's locked to both the console itself and your account.
They abandoned the limited activation count? They used to have it for the PSP.
i have a feeling this will be a flop and sony will win customer approval
that's just me there's really been nothing exciting that I've seen from this at all
Part of the problem with paying that 16 cents a day is that you're paying not just that 16 cents a day, but you're also paying to be subjected to a huge amount of ads. The amount of ads on Xbox Live is to say the least, abundant.
Paying 16 cents a day isn't a problem, but I feel like the service I ended up getting out of that 16 cents a day was not worth it due to how many ads I felt I was paying for, how little service I felt I was paying for in comparison to that, and that there were alternative competitors I felt were doing the job better, it made sense to not pay that 16 cents a day.
To be completely fair I've not experienced the ads that have been complained about, it's been a while since I had my consoles in a position to use them
What is Xbox One?
What is Xbox One?
Xbox 3 basically.
except its still a dumb bullshit fee
what if you had to pay a quarter to take a shit in your bathroom on your toilet?
sure its a small fee but at the end of the day, you own the damned toilet and everyone else can do it for free (psn, wiiu)
Not really a fair comparison. A more fair comparison? Do you have public sewers? You pay for those. Your toilet hooks up to them and you shit in them, so you are paying for the service they provide.
You buy an xbox and pay for the service.
Also,

are you serious, I'm on the dashboard for maybe 10 seconds tops before I either load up a game or an app. ads don't show up at all in game and in apps there might be one or two on some screens but it's nothing to complain about. calling it a "huge amount of ads" is just finding something to whine about.

I've seen ads on there I just ignore them, they aren't really in the way. They are usually on the dashboard and in their own box, so I just skip over them.
But I do agree that the ads shouldn't even be there if I am paying for the service.
oh if it's still only the couple ads in the boxes on the dash then that's fine, those are super unobtrusive anyhow because of how it's laid out.

well I obviously don't feel the same way about ads as you
when i boot up my xbox I see ads around the "play game" button
I see ads on the page to the right
on the page to the left
I see multiple ads all over each of those pages.
It's "just something to whine about" for you, sure, but you do know you are not the only opinion around, right?
For me, paying for a service that is then going to make a shit ton of money off of ad revenue that I'm paying to see, I'll not pay for that service and you can go ahead and feel like I'm just fucking whining.
[editline]21st May 2013[/editline]
You guys are paying to be subjected to ads they are further making money off of. If that's what you want to do, okay, that's fine for you. But if you think i'm "Just whining" because I don't like doing that, then I'm really confused by you.
to be fair it's not like they promised no ads for paying
they probably generate a good amount of ad revenue and it's not like you can accidentally click on one of them when going for "play game" with how the dashboard is laid out
http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/182ao9el1viitjpg/original.jpg
yes very unobtrusive and impossible to click on.
the play game button is huge and centered, with art to accommodate it. Not to mention selected elements are pushed into the foreground some (see the ad in that image that is forward, he has his little cursor/selector whatever over it). If you're misclicking and hitting the ads instead of the play game button I think you've got a bigger issue than small ad blocks hindering you.
I'm really failing to understand what makes me wrong in not wanting to pay for a service that will then subject me to copious amounts of ads.
And no, accidentally misclicking because you're in a hurry doesn't mean you have a "bigger issue"

there's a single ad on each page for something not xbox related, usually to the right so it's not near any of the buttons for looking at your apps or going to your game library or anything useful. it's so out of the way an unobtrusive that I can't even imagine how it'd make anyone upset. also you literally start your xbox hovering over the "Play Game" option, do you just sit there for a good while and say, "aw man these massive ads in a service I paid for sure do grind my gears >:(" every time before you start a game up?

As you might have noticed if you read any of my posts before just jumping to attack me, I did post a picture of the dashboard already.
No, I scroll around and look through the general thing every time for some reason.
God damn it's ridiculous how much flack you can catch from a bunch of you guys for just not liking paying for a service that will then throw ads at me.
Jesus fuck.

yes it does
what kind of hurry would you have to boot up a game, that would imply you don't have any time which would raise the question why you're booting up a game to begin with.
i haven't used the 360 in a while but the way you were wording things made me think it was cluttered with ads now that overpowered the actual dashboard elements
it's actually BETTER than what it used to be when I last used it

Well, people don't really need to hear why you don't like paying for it. Just don't pay for it.

but you made this post
this implies you think they're obtrusive and it's easy to click on them by accident
when they're specifically designed for exactly the opposite of that

Even though Microsoft states which box is the advertisement, most of the boxes are advertisements. They all seem to be links to monetized content.
I think it would be nicer if the homepage was just about me and my games. It should feel like my consoel. Not feel like what ever Microsoft wants to put up on the screen, even if it isn't relevant to my interests.
yeah they normally are though, i mean you can't get upset over boxes to link to music and artists in the music section, or ads for new movies in the movies section.
yes it does

alright
I'm not trying to convince you of my opinion that I dislike the ads and paying for the service that I don't need
so why are you trying to tell me I'm wrong for disliking that
I guess you're a person who's literally never misclicked on something.

Okay pal.

they're just part of the service. it's saying "hey check this out you might like these apps" because I know people who didn't even know that Netflix or Youtube or IE is available to use. Steam does it too even though their thing is a little more minimalistic as it's centered around solely gaming, this is the home page right now
[t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59389727/pc/hrre.png[/t]
you tried to counter my point about how they're unobtrusive and are hard to accidentally click by posting that picture and making the retort "yes very unobtrusive and impossible to click on."
then when i explained exactly why I was right using the picture you provided, you backed up and said "im not trying to convince you!!!!"
why counter my point to begin with
it's just Microsoft or gaming related news 99% of the time anyways
you tried to counter my point about how they're unobtrusive and are hard to accidentally click by posting that picture and making the retort "yes very unobtrusive and impossible to click on."

Because to me, I don't feel like they are unobtrusive. They are bright and glaring and take up a huge portion of screen content.
this is the point where i say that they don't encroach on the app space at all
i have never once seen an ad on the dashboard that touches the app bar.

To me, this looks like a lot of ads. This looks like more ads than un used space. This is not a service I want to pay for.
I'm going to tell you right now, you're going to waste your time trying to tell me, that in my own opinion, the ads are perfectly fine and should be there.
