they're just part of the service. it's saying "hey check this out you might like these apps" because I know people who didn't even know that Netflix or Youtube or IE is available to use. Steam does it too even though their thing is a little more minimalistic as it's centered around solely gaming, this is the home page right now

You don't pay a monthly fee for Steam and you don't have ads for "Maroon 5" on there either.

I agree with the fact you don't pay for it.
But the Xbox is a MEDIA device now. Not just a gaming device.
There is a reason why there are movies and music tabs...

gaming? what's that? sounds dumb
this is the point where i say that they don't encroach on the app space at all
i have never once seen an ad on the dashboard that touches the app bar.
I skipped here from page two and you're STILL sticking up for it
The point of consoles was that it was simple; you plug the game in, hit play and here you go. Now you have to deal with accounts, installation, DRM, patches, ads, subscriptions, DLC... I don't know why anyone would buy an Xbox 3 rather than a PC. There's a couple of exclusives but that's about it.
If Microsoft try to move away from gaming and just make an "entertainment" device, they'll be competing against way cheaper products (because less powerful) and even against some TVs ("smart TVs").
But the Xbox is a MEDIA device now.
And that's the problem.

Long live the PC master race!
Long live Operation Flashpoint and its mods!
Long live CS 1.6 and its endless servers!
And that's the problem.
Hasn't Valve had plans on doing similiar things with steam? Anyone remember the music player?
Hasn't Valve had plans on doing similiar things with steam? Anyone remember the music player?
yes but no one is paying to just be on steam.

Comparing a digital distribution platform to a physical console supposedly built for gaming is ridiculous. Steam is built with the PC in mind, a multimedia machine to begin with.
It's really bothering me that they decided to do this. Never had a playstation in my life, never really planned on it. But honestly..paying to play used/borrow games? Sickening. Might switch to Sony.

And if they did, they'd keep it all separate like how software is a completely separate section on Steam and I doubt there'd be ads like Microsoft, they don't have stockholders and they don't need the advertising money.
First Windows 8, now this... come on Microsoft step up your game!
What is the point of getting a fucking console if I can't play used games?

Windows 8 isn't bad.

There isn't a fee.
Wasn't there something in the conference about native recording and editing

You can play used games on the Xbox... Also, the point of a console isn't to play used games...
I buy new games to play on my Xbox. The Xbox is just to play games.
You can play used games on the Xbox...
Well, okay, you can, but it COST MORE. a fee after you pay for it at game stop.

So, what the reason to get a console if they are removing paying once for a used game, borrowing games from friends, what, split screen? guess what, some PC games have that too.
Yeah, Xbox One so far is completely blowing the competition away.
Oh it blows alright.....

“What I think people are now confusing is the purchasing of content in the first instance with the ability to trade and resell the previously played games,” said Harrison. “We have a solution for that and we will be announcing exactly how that works in due course.”
They haven't really told us how they'll deal with it.
Though we now know the console requires a daily internet connection

They said they won't be charging a fee (whether true or not, it is what they have said at this point). There is no fee to be payed to play used games.

Sounds like there is a fee if you arn't signed into your account, which is reasonable I guess.

Okay good. But really, I really don't see a reason to get a Xbox One, It looks to be that sony is winning. They better show some shit at E3 then.
CVG now reporting that the secondhand install fee could be the same price as a brand new purchase, what the fuck
First Windows 8, now this... come on Microsoft step up your game!
Uh, Windows 8 is good but I think we can all agree that the Xbox One is shit.

It probably is, but honestly it was going to happen eventually. I always buy a game new, when you go to gamestop and buy a used game you get it for 5 dollars less but then none of the money goes to the developer.
They probably had a huge developer push to do that tbh.

Except for ZachPL
QQ more fanboy
Defs buying a ps4 now, as much as I dont lending games out to friends, my brother still likds to borrow some of my games for his xbox, its retarded that only one console can play the one game inside the house.
