Would it drive off customers? Everyone here says Xbox live charging you for your very internet would drive off users but it doesn't.
I get what you mean, but look at it this way. Pretend I have a 25 gig hard drive and i just bought my 26th game (imagine this is a world where each game is 1 gig)! Well shit, I can't install it cause my HDD is capped. I'm gonna go online to see if I can get a bigger harddrive! Oh drats, you need to pay for a whole new console to get a bigger hard drive! Fuck this, I'm gonna go to -generic console here that can let you swap hardrives- and play as many games as i want man!
Alright so they require you to be a gold member for YouTube/Netflix/Crackle/Internet Explorer use on your console. Those are basic functions that should be free. But of course you can access Zune Music without gold membership, conveniently a service Microsoft runs.
it's not like i'm defending this shit.
This doesn't bother me as long as separate accounts on a single xbox can play the game, my dad likes to play the Call of Duty campaigns on occasion and has his own account. Honestly can't remember the last time I bought a used game or let a friend borrow a game, pretty much all of my friends already have games I own anyways.
I'm getting the rest of my new PC next Friday so I don't give a fuck :)
If I could play every Halo on the PC I would have no reason to, but Microsoft knows Halo sells the Xbox.
well, not gonna take that away from you I don't like halo myself but I know why people do
it's not like i'm defending this shit.
Fair enough :v:

I bet Microsoft is betting that the PS4 won't either. So where's the risk in doing this?
I agree 100%, XBL should be free. I'm gonna be very interested to see if they follow Sony in making their online service free though. While there's a slim chance, it still exists. Sony has proven that even with free online you can make a metric fucktonne of money on consoles.
I agree that Xbox Live should be completely free. Saying that, though, I also think that $60 a year is not even something for me to think twice about. I spend a lot more than $60 a year on stupid impulse buys. "Oh shit, I want a milkshake today." So realistically, the money isn't the issue I don't think. Do I wish it was free? Hell the fuck yes I wish it was free.
but here's the thing the PS3 didn't let you swap harddrives. I bet Microsoft is betting that the PS4 won't either. So where's the risk in doing this?
It was meant to be more of a comparison to how the 360 and slim worked than the PS3/4
Just as a reminder, PC+PS4 master race PS4 for dem' Sony exclusives (which happen to be fucking amazing) PC for everything else Shitbox as a paper weight if you end up buying one (mine's white so I can't see the dust)

You'd just have to share an account.
but here's the thing the PS3 didn't let you swap harddrives. I bet Microsoft is betting that the PS4 won't either. So where's the risk in doing this?
But it did? In fact the PS3 hard drive is a standard 2.5" hard-drive that you can get for dirt cheap. For Xbox you had to buy expensive as shit xbox branded hard-drives.
no one's arguing against you, you're totally right in saying its retarded, but the money you pay is a blanket fee
Ah I see what you guys were saying now. Alright. That's fair. Still super shitty though.
but here's the thing the PS3 didn't let you swap harddrives. I bet Microsoft is betting that the PS4 won't either.
It was meant to be more of a comparison to how the 360 and slim worked than the PS3/4
Yeah but you said "they'll switch over to generic console", but that requires a market that HAS that generic console. You have two choices right now as a "core" gamer entering the next gen market, and that's sony and microsoft(I don't really want to toss the WiiU in as it won't last hardware wise and we'll see some problems from that I bet). So where can people go when they're limited in choice? I don't think they'll have removable harddrives in either console. I think we'll see that pretty soon.
Ah I see what you guys were saying now. Alright. That's fair. Still super shitty though.
100% with you on that

Maybe they removed that with the Slim?
PS3 slim allows you to change harddrives. Is this something that you'd feel comfortable doing JUST to play a game at a friends house? Do you think the average tech illiterate person will do so?
But it says right there, "tied to one account". You'd just have to share an account.
Oh oops I don't know why I read tied to the console.

Though they'd probably make a lot more revenue via selling upgraded sizes for hard drives over just selling bigger consoles. Me, like many consumers (I hope, anyhow), would much more readily pay a smaller sum for a larger hard drive than pay for another version of the console I already own.
I have an ecksbawks, I have a PS3. I like to think I'm neutral. I have no stake in any console war because I don't give a shit, whichever plays the best video games is the one I'll get, but it'll probably be PS4. why? I don't give a flying shit about Halo or Gears of War, and I've never been quite sure what the point of the xbox was originally. I only got it because most of the people I knew had one, and it made it easier to trade games for it. The Ps3 was my personal choice. But I'm really confused. You say you're on the PS4 side before the xbox announcement, out of genuine curiosity what was the motivating factor to push you one way or the other
To me console gaming is playing with friends. I also think that console gaming has changed and that instead of going to houses to play games, you play online with your friends. When I picked my Xbox 360 over the PS3, I realized that compared to each other there wasn't much difference. Graphics were relatively the same, I don't really like single player games so exclusives mean jack shit to me (except, I think Xbox has more multiplayer exclusives I could be wrong I don't really know), but I did have more friends with Xbox 360s at the time. My deciding factor came on having people to play with. Within the next month and seeing how both consoles turn out, who knows which one I will get. If one is clearly superior over the other than I will get that one. If they are relatively the same, offering the same gaming experience, same graphics, I will pick whichever one I know I will have people to play with.
No one plays 25 games at once, just uninstall some of them you digital hoarder.
The problem is when people have bandwidth caps or slow internet speeds. Let's face it, 3-4 years into this generation and these games will be around 20-40GB each. Most ISPs with bandwidth caps start off at 100GB of traffic That's everything. Gaming. Downloading. Streaming. No one wants to spend 1/4th of their allowance on a game that they already had. I know you can buy physical media but they really should have given a 1TB drive at the very least, I got a 3TB SATA3 drive for $120 last week. 1TB drives sell for about $40 and I doubt Microsoft is buying at retail.
Yeah mine allows you to remove the hard drive but I have one of the first generations. Maybe they removed that with the Slim?
Slims have it as well, refer to either top of this page or somewhere on the past page where i posted the video on it.
Yeah mine allows you to remove the hard drive but I have one of the first generations. Maybe they removed that with the Slim?
Yup, the HDD is internal, so removing it would viod the waranty completely.
But is this something that you do on a regular basis to play games with friends? Is this something that you'd feel comfortable doing JUST to play a game at a friends house? Do you think the average tech illiterate person will do so?
most Xbox users I know transport their harddrives when they go to play games with their friends, I do so as well
ZachPL, can you stop being a butthurt fan-boy and come out with a coherent argument why everyone's dumb and you're of superior intellect?
Yup, the HDD is internal, so removing it would viod the waranty completely.
It doesn't void the warranty, it's covered, not internal. It detaches and allows for larger sizes to be purchased and inserted. I guess I'll repost the video for you all
