It's not that bad, people are still over-dramatizing it because of the "realiable sources" of rumors that made the new Xbox look bad. Still. terrible choice of a name for a 3rd console.
I would just wait until everything is answered, like paid XBL, offline sharing and such. It's too soon and that reveal just covered the most important features of it.
The problem is when people have bandwidth caps or slow internet speeds. Let's face it, 3-4 years into this generation and these games will be around 20-40GB each. Most ISPs with bandwidth caps start off at 100GB of traffic
That's everything. Gaming. Downloading. Streaming. No one wants to spend 1/4th of their allowance on a game that they already had. I know you can buy physical media but they really should have given a 1TB drive at the very least, I got a 3TB SATA3 drive for $120 last week. 1TB drives sell for about $40 and I doubt Microsoft is buying at retail.
you install directly from the disc, theres no downloading required. I have ass internet speeds and I could install skyrim to my xbox in like 10 minutes, just change over to tv or something and its done before your show is halfway over.

Wouldn't they still be installable from the discs, though? And if you gave the disc away, you probably can't use it anymore, anyways.
It doesn't void the warranty, it's covered, not internal. It detaches and allows for larger sizes to be purchased and inserted. I guess I'll repost the video for you all
Here's what mine looks like. Is it any different than the slim?

repost for people who didn't know about this.
also fun fact, if you gut the old 360 fat drives, you can actually get a brick on the inside that can connect to the Slim hard drive port, you need to put a piece of any blocking material in there with it because it's smaller than the slim drives (obviously you're not meant to remove that bit), but it works perfectly
I agree that Xbox Live should be completely free.
Saying that, though, I also think that $60 a year is not even something for me to think twice about.
I spend a lot more than $60 a year on stupid impulse buys. "Oh shit, I want a milkshake today."
So realistically, the money isn't the issue I don't think. Do I wish it was free? Hell the fuck yes I wish it was free.
Not paying for XBL was the greatest thing I ever did, because then I can have $60 worth of milk shakes extra every year instead of just the normal impulse buy.

Oh god oops I saw you refer to the Slim and i thought you meant 360 slim
i have no idea about PS3

I know but for the sake of argument it really would've been nice to have 1TB at the least. Also another issue is updates. If you're swapping out games, you'll probably be updating your games/DLC so that's definitely an issue.
Yeah anyone who has an xbox takes their harddrive around with them
The question now is, is this going to be possible on the new console? From our look at it as of now, it's not looking great but who knows.

this twitter account is saying the info is wrong. who to believe?
That was anotherthing that was laughable about xbox and consoles in general, if you lived in a house with dogs or a dusty climate, the heatsink would just be black with shit. And you couldnt clean it without voiding the warranty. It got to the point that my xbox could only be on for 30 min without overheating :v:.

Yeah, that's up in the air.
I just cant see it being a better choice for them to remove the option completely, I've bought a couple 360 hard drives just for tinkering and stuff like that, alongside upgrading my storage space. There's no way in hell I'd purchase a new console to do any of that though.

if it is wrong, that's such a major blunder by them that it's almost inconceivable such a thing could be misrepresented.

A little more of a specific source.
A second part to the always online rumor was some type of activation system that prevents used games. Microsoft says it's "designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games," and promises to offer more details in future. Wired has some additional details, noting that secondary use of a game disc will require a fee so that it will be marked and owned and can be played without the disc — something the Xbox One supports natively.
Oh right that's even more specific....

Updates are just added on, you don't need to uninstall/reinstall every time, I have most of my RPG's installed because they're slow as dicks to load up and the update system hasn't changed.
So are games on steam
except if i want to introduce my friend to steam he doesn't have to pay a fee or come over to my house

thanks for that, that's actually pretty cool
So
XBOX
- we know what it looks like
PS4
- gaming platform, not a TV remote
- controller designed for human hands
- social BS optional
- recognized and overcame one of its biggest problem, the hardware architecture
XBOX: 1 PS: 4
[sp]I'm sorry, I just wanted to make that joke, I'm actually gonna stick to PC[/sp]

If microsoft themselves are in charge of that, then holy shit that's going to suck.
Go on the xbox store right now and games are overpriced as shit even for old games or purely digital downloads.
That's not giving me a lot more hope.
Here's what mine looks like. Is it any different than the slim?
It's a bit more hidden in the Slim, but you can still do it without voiding warranty. Same thing with the super-slim, or whatever the newest model is called.
So are games on steam
The games on Steam are, except for disc copies, digital, and im not sure how it would work another way.
The Xbox's games, except for some digital, will be physical disc copies.
This is completely unecessary and probably the consoles fatal flaw, with Steam, it's sort of unavoidable with the way it is.
The games on steam are, except for disc copies, digital, and im not sure how it would work another way.
Mind you that the Xbox supports digital game purchases AND physical copies, much like steam does (though they're somewhat reversed, with steam thriving off of digital purchases while also supporting physical copies, while the xbox thrives off of physical copies and supports digital purchases)

Yeah but Steam doesnt force you to pay a fee if you brick your computer, get a new one, and reinstall your games.
This is in no way comparable to Steam. PC has never had a market for used games and CD Keys have been around since forever, it's been an accepted thing for 20+ years. Consoles are expected to be brought around to friend's houses, borrowed and sometimes (unfortunately) resold.
As a developer, I am certainly not a fan of used games because the sales are not reported and we never see a cent (other than the initial purchase) but I definitely will defend the right to buy and sell used games.
Yeah but Steam doesnt force you to pay a fee if you brick your computer, get a new one, and reinstall your games.
Assuming that microsoft doesn't make a radical shift in direction out of the blue, odds are it'll have a removable hard drive much like the 360, 360 Slim, and apparently PS3 slim have.
If you do happen to brick your console somehow, you can just remove the hard drive and pop it in your new console if you get one
Judging by that Microsoft Support Twitter feed I'm seriously doubting this is even true now.
Judging by that Microsoft Support Twitter feed I'm seriously doubting this is even true now.
Agreed, it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened
Agreed, it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened
Just makes me think back to the always online rumors and how everyone just kept saying "gg micro$oft, sony wins." That one I didn't believe but I could see something similar to this being implemented, just not nearly as harsh or restrictive. Thankfully they aren't going down the road that EA went down with Online Passes assuming the Xbox Support thing is right.
Based off of Sony's success with their system of online, and the fact that EA admitted that the Online Passes were a bad idea, I'm sure even if Microsoft didn't think of this kind of system being bad to begin with, they know it from watching the other companies.
Not paying for XBL was the greatest thing I ever did, because then I can have $60 worth of milk shakes extra every year instead of just the normal impulse buy.
Unfortunately the average age of a gamer is 30 years old or something like that.
If you have a job, $60 a year, is ridiculous.
I know, I am excluding kids, maybe like yourself since you are complaining about the $60 dollars a year.
That's 5 dollars a month... $1.25 a week... A dime, a nickle, and 2 pennies a day. Honestly, less than a quarter a day.
If you make a shitty $30,000 a year (no disrespect to those who make that a year) that is 0.2% of your salary a year. Even if you get paid part time during the summer and only make $2,000 the whole summer, that is 3% of your paycheck.
$60 spent on Xbox live hardly dictates if I can have another milk shake or not. If I accidentally drop $60 out of my wallet one day and never see it again, it isn't going to destroy my entire fiscal year.
