Steubenville rapist allowed back on football roster

In my opinion, if you violently rape somebody, you should be tried as an adult. That's not just something which can be excused as 'kids being kids', it fucking ruins lives.
I can only imagine that the people he has to play against will absolutely demolish him while playing football because of what he did.
American sport culture. Worst one out there.
I hope this team loses every game, I hope they are booed every time they get on the field, I hope the perp's tires are slashed and he is harassed until they disband the team entirely, or remove him from the team.
Animals like these deserve 20 years, minimum, to understand what it means to be a functioning member of society. Until then, the only sight they should see is iron bars.
you are god. damn. insane.
People do dumb shit; kids do dumb shit. Drunk kids do dumb shit. What that group of people did is terrible, no doubt about it. What they did was horrifying (everyone knows this no need to go into detail about WHY it was bad), and they deserve punishment, no doubt about it. Still, hoping someone's entire life is literally destroyed is horrible.
The truly terrible thing that caused this become nationwide news wasn't perpetrated by the rapists, it was the public reaction, as well as the reaction of their coaches and peers, which they had NO control over. These boys need rehabilitation, not unending torment until they commit suicide.

Usually I agree, but reading the actual text message conversation that went down was basically reading, "hey bro did u coom all over her face cause that's awesome!" In ten variations, with really insensitive commentary.
They aren't exactly the brightest kids to lose sleep over, that didn't have much to offer in society besides football anyways.
Also the kid got off way too easy. The fact the high school is still even letting him play football is about the biggest non-lesson this guy will learn. Plus, he doesn't even show up on the public registry for sex offenders, and has a good possibility to overturn the 20 year register based on good behavior.

hell yeah he got off too easy, and hell yeah he's fucking dumb
but implying that he should basically just flat out be killed right then and there (20 years behind bars, permanent and unending black mark on him rendering unemployable, unfriendable, unlovable) because of something he did when he was a kid is just terrible. Him and his friends CLEARLY need therapy, CLEARLY need to be readjusted, but from at least what I've seen, they're not evil individuals, just fucking stupid ones.

uh? the reason it became nationwide news is because the entire school hid it and attempted to publicly humiliate / quash the victim?
you are god. damn. insane.
No, I'm just right.

Sorry kiddo, then you shouldn't have repeatedly raped someone and then let your friends join in.
This isn't some "Oh just dumb kid stuff", it's sociopath stuff. The more time they're out of society, the better.
(20 years behind bars, permanent and unending black mark on him rendering unemployable, unfriendable, unlovable)
And what kind of black mark do you think has been left on the victim after she was raped, then bullied for being raped, then shown the poor rapists sob stories on the news?
Being vilified sounds like the correct treatment for a rapist to me, especially as its so common in our society for the victim of crimes like these to get vilified for something that was forced on them.
We're talking about one of the shitheads who dragged a drunk girl from parties to parties, raping her with friends, I don't even understand why he's been only 2 years in jail.
Juvenile. In most european countries they would get just those two years and probably some sort of parole.
Their criminal record would get purged. As opposed to the US which has those sex offender lists.
I think the electric chair is called for. Some people are just wastes of oxygen.
Who would name their child Ma'Lik?
Sports star and the school tried to cover it up. Doesn't apply to the stereotype.
I know, I know. It was just a joke about how in threads where a woman sometimes gets away with these kind of things and there's always that "If it was a male" reply.
What this kid did is extremely fucked up and he shouldn't get any special treatment. Fuck this thing we call a "Justice System"
I feel like the charges should be changed so if you are at least 12 years old and you do something extremely bad like rape or murder, you should be charged as an adult because by 12 years old you know your actions have consequences. Remember, it would only apply to extreme charges like Rape or Murder, other minor charges like vandalism would stay as Juvenile.

The reasoning behind kids not being tried as adults is because they couldn't understand the severity of their actions.
Why would you therefore try kids as adults for more severe crimes?

I mean, obviously kids can't understand the ramifications of shoplifting, but murder? Sure.

the most recent thread that happened in was for a woman who was 27 years old but this is a kid. an adult woman got less time in jail than a kid male (18 or under and was tried as a minor) for rape. the woman even groomed the girl and it was premeditated.
i hope someone kicks a football up his ass
and it gets stuck there
for life
Who would name their child Ma'Lik?
That's a fairly regular Arabic name.

There's kind of a difference between the two cases.
In this particular case this girl was drugged and raped several times by multiple people with people bragging about it with pictures, texts, and video iirc.
As for the other case the victim was over the age of consent, and there was no evidence that sex occurred before she reached 16. The reason why that teacher was charged was because she was in a position of trust (teacher, doctor, police officer, that sort of shit. in this case she was a teacher).
That's why the Steubenville rapists got more than the other lady. It has nothing to do with her being a woman, but rather the severity of the crime.
I definitely have to agree, growing up in a town that worshipped american football.
Sports people are the absolute worst. I avoid anyone related to sports.
I mean, it's bad enough that sports culture perpetuates homophobia and racism. But now they are protecting rapists.
sickening.
"attracting rapists"
You might surprised at the number of guys who try to get girls drunk to take advantage of them. Alcohol is a drug too.

He got two years because his friend's dad or something was the DA.
