For some reason I have a feeling that if, say, Yellowstone were to go off, this volcano would get caught in a chain reaction and basically fuck over everyone ever.
so basically our planet hates us and everything else alive
ill still be able to grow shit
bitches dont know about my ultraviolet lamps

EDIT:
fun fact, none local media talk about this, like give a shit
Noone talks about it because it is sensationalist bullshit. It could take tens of thousands of years before this thing erupts.
should probably focus on attempting to discover more of Herculaneum somehow, no one really gives two shits about Vesuvius any more
Terrible attitude, you could say the same about disease or draughts.
Well theres not much to do about supervolcanoes unless we evacuate to space.
Imagine that happening right after a nuclear war, adding salt to the injury.
Skipping a bit offtopic here but didn't this happen in Fallout lore?
If I recall isn't yellowstone majorly overdue? Isn't that why scientists scream about it at least once a year.
Why worry about something out of our control? If a volcano erupts, it erupts. There is nothing you or I or anyone else can do to prevent it.
You can take precaustions for evacuation.
Reading this thread some people need some lessons in geography and geology.
Let me note; Vesuvius was the volcano that caused the devastation at both Pompeii and Herculaneum, with Herculaneum being buried by lahaars. Vesuvius isn't in southern Sicily to the Einstein that said it was, that's Etna.
As for these being "overdue", " soon" on a geological timescale can be thousands of years, so yes Yellowstone could erupt in ten years, but it could also be a thousand.
I really doubt there is an undiscovered supervolcano, especially so close to an already extensively monitored volcano (Vesuvius). Drilling small boreholes are not going to set it off either. Humans have a tend to over estimate their significance.
As for prediction, volcanoes are relatively easy to predict (on a scale of months) compared to earthquakes, using proper monitoring such as that in Iceland. But then again this is Italy, so I wouldn't bet against them ignoring any signs, especially around the corrupt shit hole that is Naples. ( Seriously, I was walking round by the port last week and its like a 3rd world country).
Volcanoes are so overrated. Hurricanes are where things are at. Why don't we pour water down the volcano to cool it down. So it can prevent eruptions
Hurricanes aren't really an issue for Italy though. Significant hurricanes are rare for Mediterranean countries.

I hope you're not being serious
Well, this would fix Italy's economic issues fast!
Over sensationalist. I was expecting an end of the world scenario.
blahblahblah
Where's the news.
Can't we drill in through the side and alleviate the pressure through a minor eruption that vents a bit of the magma? Or does that increase the risk of a super-eruption?
Doubt it'll erupt this year or even 100yrs.
There's another supervolcano in Iceland that has had activity in its chamber but there's little chance of it erupting, it's Katla.

Probably trigger it to erupt.

The pressure change would cause an eruption.
