everybody in this thread is autistic holy shit
Maybe if the teacher implemented his IEP correctly or genuinely listened to him when it wasn't he wouldn't have had the "outburst." I don't know what exactly triggered it, but this doesn't sound like his fault.
everybody in this thread is autistic holy shit
I got dumbed down for comparing this to of mice and men. But it is no different than when Lennie 'accidentally' kills curleys wife and he gets put to death, the book is supposed to invoke discussion over whether or not mentally I'll people are responsible for their actions.

I'm pretty sure teachers do learn this as well, my mum teaches and she has care plans for the students with disabilities in her classes. Suspending a kid with autism because of his triggers being set off is the same as suspending a kid in a wheelchair because he can't walk up the steps to the school and there is no wheelchair access for him. Measures have to be put in place to account for disabilities, mentally and physically (though we are purely focusing on mentally atm), suspension isn't a proper measure or response.
It takes one person to pull a thread down the shitter. It's already too late.
everybody in this thread is autistic holy shit
Oh yeah? Well you're advanced fullblown autistic times two!
Look on the bright side. He now has two days to stay home and play Minecraft.
i wish i went to a high school were garry was the principal.
nvm
What did he do? And more importantly, how serious is his autism?
Look on the bright side. He now has two days to stay home and play Minecraft.
Now you'll have someone to play with!
I like how that from around 3:45 - 4:00, that guys speech totally failed. Feel sorry for the autistic kid although I don't exactly know what he was suspended for, I read the article etc but does it clarify the reason?
What did he do? And more importantly, how serious is his autism?
The kid didn't think his IEP or BIP plans were being implemented properly (which could have a serious effect on his education and behavior in class, so good on him for being proactive) and decided to discuss it with the teacher. During this conversation, the teacher must've done or said something that triggered an "outburst" from the kid. Then the kid got suspended for the outburst. So without knowing what exactly was said between them, it looks to me like the teacher doesn't take the plans set in place to keep him calm and learning seriously. Instead of suspending the kid, they should have taken his concerns seriously, looked hard at how his plans are being implemented, and ignored the outburst because outbursts are part of being a kid with autism.
“I explained to Christian and those in attendance that under the law, student disciplinary matters are confidential. It was my conclusion, supported by our legal counsel at the table, that Christian’s revelation of this information was inappropriate because it potentially compromised the pending disciplinary matter and revealed personal protected information. As a result, I had to insist that he not provide any more information about it,” Waldenburg said.
Their reason for not allowing him to speak, is because he might reveal confidential information, about himself...?

I can't just go on a shooting spree and say my autism was acting up so it's okay.
Your post was dumb. Try re-reading it and you might find the logical fallacy. Try looking up legal precedent too.
No you're dumb! Nuh uh, you're dumb! No way man you made a logical fallacy, you're dumb! Nah man read my post it'll show you why you're dumb! Yeah we'll you're dumb here have a rating! Stop rating me dumb because you're dumb. Jesus fuck are you two still in middle school?
So he shouldn't get punished just because he's autistic? What sort of precedent does that set? They can get anyway with anything and blame it on their condition?
Uhm punishment is a wrong term in the cases of malunderstanding - aka the person is unable to comprehend what they did wrong. Instead they are given treatment. That said, I will also withhold any judgement until I know what the kid was suspended for.
Now you'll have someone to play with!
I finally found a friend.
Not understanding it's wrong to murder someone doesn't get you off on a manslaughter charge.
Have you ever heard of a legal concept called diminished capacity Of course you haven't because you're posting this crap
Why are people still comparing a minor outburst to murder for this argument? What is even the point of going straight to that extreme?
Because they don't have a logical argument.
Because they don't have a logical argument.
Ok, how about this. I can't just go around grabbing girls breasts and say I have autism.
Ok, how about this. I can't just go around grabbing girls breasts and say I have autism.
Because there's totally an actual disease that makes people do this. Even so, if that was the case you would be stopped from doing it, not punished for it.
Figure out what he was put under suspension for then let the shitfest begin. Because for now all of you guys look autistic trying to argue without the whole story.
Figure out what he was put under suspension for then let the shitfest begin. Because for now all of you guys look autistic trying to argue without the whole story.
It was because he had an "outburst" during an argument with his teacher. We don't know if it was triggered by his autism however.
Because there's totally an actual disease that makes people do this. Even so, if that was the case you would be stopped from doing it, not punished for it.
yes you would be punished. that's sexual assault.
It was because he had an "outburst" during an argument with his teacher. We don't know if it was triggered by his autism however.
Well that sounds right for the suspension then.
yes you would be punished. that's sexual assault.
I'll admit you likely would be if you did do that, but it's not really comparable in that sense because yelling at your teacher isn't illegal. [editline]12th October 2013[/editline]
Well that sounds right for the suspension then.
Completely dependent on whether or not it was triggered by his autism (which we don't know).
Well it's obvious from the article that the board wasn't at liberty to talk about it in public. Essentially telling an autistic person to shut up when they're making an argument is rude and they handled it badly but they did have a reason. Certain things are confidential to protect the rights and futures of students, especially pending disciplinary situations. Perhaps there's a more official and private channel the family could have gone through to air their grievances about the punishment than there? I wouldn't know myself so maybe there isn't.
I got dumbed down for comparing this to of mice and men.
