Oh there's been far worse, at least this makes a seriously twisted sort of sense if you look at it through their perception of the military, i.e. killing machine. Brian Fischer is a stupid cunt though, as is the entire AFA org. This is a pretty wacko complaint too: http://friendlyatheist.com/2010/11/19/peter-labarbera-why-did-a-gay-man-get-treated-with-respect/
OOOH! It's Porno Pete (he's commonly called that in the gay community)!
Hes a troll, ignore him.
you dont have to kill someone to be a good soldier, you just have to help out and sometimes fixing cars can help more then blowing up guys
Majority of soldiers who receive the medal of honour do something that puts their lives second. Aka jumping on a live hand grenade to protect soldiers around them, or retrieving a fallen solider out in the open while under fire. It's not just about killing people. And this idiots opinion isn't newsworthy.
what's wrong with feminized :colbert:
what's wrong with feminized :colbert:
It gets in the way of this manliness
since when does killing the enemy define a heroic soldier? what a bunch of idiots.
This guy is an idiot, you don't need had to have blood on your hands to serve your country and fellow man.
What in the fuck? The guy who got the Medal of Honor basically ran into a wall of hot lead to save his friend. That takes balls of solid granite, whether he killed someone or not.
What the fuck, this guy has to be a troll.
where is this moron's service record? also the thread title is ridiculous. one moron does not speak for everyone
misleading title is misleading.
misleading title is misleading.
The only thing misleading about the title is implying the entire "Christian Right" did it, but the comment in question is indeed there:
So the question is this: when are we going to start awarding the Medal of Honor once again for soldiers who kill people and break things, so our families can sleep safely at night?
Guinta did shoot and kill someone, as well as run through a wall of lead to get his friend, being dragged away by two Taliban fighters... One of which he killed, the other he wounded, Then dragged his buddy back... The guy died 6 hours later, but not in the hands of Terry
Killing people makes you a man. :colbert:
I think it should be awarded to both. Saving and Killing.
The Christians who posted their opinions are wrong because the medal of honour is for courage and bravery which can be aplicable to any number of situations.
These articles need to start saying awarded instead of given. It makes me think they're talking about the video game when they say given.
Isn't it a fact or something that only 20% of soldiers ever shoot their weapon in a battle? I read it on that online encyclopedia, cracked.com or something.
No. It's a terribly overused misquote from a psychology study regarding combat performance in WW2, where alot of soldiers being deployed were not necessarily combat MOS trained, and were not mentally prepared for the realities of combat. Ask any infantry soldier today who has seen combat in A-stan or in Iraq if he fired his weapon and he'll look at you like you are a idiot. Times have changed.
Man, whatever happened to the days when the Bible was about helping your neighbour? And spreading the love? In before "Never :smug:"
what ever happened to thall shalt not kill
Yea.. [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline]
No. It's a terribly overused misquote from a psychology study regarding combat performance in WW2, where alot of soldiers being deployed were not necessarily combat MOS trained, and were not mentally prepared for the realities of combat.
what ever happened to thall shalt not kill
This is the biggest misquote of all time. The bible says thou shalt not murder. Yes murder is different to killing. The revised editions of the bible now say thou shalt not kill, but the original and proper translation was murder.
A soldiers job isn't even to kill people in the first place, it's supposed to be avoided as much as possible.
A soldiers job isn't even to kill people in the first place, it's supposed to be avoided as much as possible.
Hahaha. Again, what kind of soldier. A logistics soldier? Yeah probably. An infantry soldier? The infantry's entire training curriculum is based around finding efficient ways to kill other people.
he Canadian Forces Infantry role is described as: "To close in and destroy the enemy, in any terrain and all weather conditions." The Australian Army defines the role of the infantry thus: "The role of Infantry is to seek out and close with the enemy, to kill or capture him, to seize and hold ground and to repel attack, by day or night, regardless of season, weather or terrain." Similarly, the United States Army describes the mission of infantry: "The Infantry closes with the enemy by means of fire and maneuver in order to destroy or capture him or to repel his assault by fire, close combat, and counterattack." All things considered these synopsize what the infantry does and has done throughout the ages, regardless of nationality, changes in technology, doctrine, tactics, etc.
These are all just fancy words for, what boils down to: arrive by walking, proceed to kill motherfuckers.
Because killing is an honourable thing.

I know nothing about mordern warfare really.
Wow, dumb.
"Southern Poverty Law Center Adds Family Research Council & American Family Association To Anti-Gay Hate Groups List" Fucking finally.
I think this is why a lot of people don't like Christians. I'm a full Roman Catholic and even I think this guy isn't that bright. I mean, war isn't great by the usual standard of Catholicism, but egging on people to kill others in exchange for a shiny medal is quite a paradox.
While war can be necessary, it's never great. This guy almost seems like he's locked in a pre-WW1 view of the glorious battlefield.
