Such a fucking fantastic movie.
I love how he slowly comes to the disturbing realization that the man he is dealing with is not of decent company, to put it tactfully.
sure but forcing a company to change the name of their product because the current name sounds similar to a chemical used in the holocaust? You don't find that ridiculous in the slightest?
It doesn't sound similar, it is literally the same name.
highly inappropriate naming, i hope it wasn't on purpose as a gimmick
at the same time, we are letting the nazi's win their post-mortem terror campaign if we let them hold onto things like words and symbols.
How are you guys even defending this lmao
you could make the argument about "oh zyklon b was used before the war" if zyklon b was actually in the product they're selling but they literally just named it after the gas that's famous for killing a bunch of Jews and it sort of implies that jews are germs (intentionally or not)

I don't think they'd do this just for lulz or deliberately considering the amount of money invested in R&D and production, it would be a very pricy short lived lulz.
It's most likely an oversight, we're talking about WW2 and it's almost 70 years old. The idea guys probably thought it was a cool name, checked if it was registered or not and went with it without doing any other research about the name.
would you call a softdrink Agent Orange?
i would
For a second I forgot 'gift' in German is 'poison' and was wondering why they'd use party gas to euthanize people.
One of my favorite
"Ich gab meine Kinder ein Gift für Weihnachten"
Cyclon B
Kills 99% of Jerms guarantied
It cleanses your Lebensraum with ease.
Zyklon B was also rat poison
Oversensitivity.
racist
Honestly I never heard of Zyklon B until they started bitching about it being similar in name to a chemical cleaner. Guess I slept through that day in history class.

They don't actually sound that similar bud

It means exactly the same thing, "Bud". Zyklon is german for cyclone.
Yeah no shit, but they don't sound the same and thats the point. They only share the same name if you translate it
Yeah no shit, but they don't sound the same and thats the point. They only share the same name if you translate it
doesn't that mean that they share the same name?
it's the same word but in a different language
They already had a product line called cyclone, and they use the letter B with other products to indicate that it used biological enzymes to clean, making it safer on the environment. It was just an unfortunate accident with their naming scheme, not some grand conspiracy to get a laugh out of holocaust victims.

And hell, they recalled the product after they realized it. What's the big deal?
Yeah no shit, but they don't sound the same and thats the point. They only share the same name if you translate it
is the purpose of language to make certain sounds or is the purpose of language to communicate meaning?
is the purpose of language to make certain sounds or is the purpose of language to communicate meaning?
Obviously the latter but "Cyclone B" does not mean "SS Gestapo Jew murdering chemical"
Reminds me of that one German company that wanted to trademark the name "Zyklon" to market their line of gas ovens. Siemens, I think it was.
Oh fuck I just learned that this was the very same Siemens that used to use Jewish slave labor back during the Holocaust. Now that's amazing.
Obviously the latter but "Cyclone B" does not mean "SS Gestapo Jew murdering chemical"
no it means "i came up with a dumb name for my product that pisses everyone off maybe i should change the name"
Waiting for the the news headline "Israel wages war on antisemitic France"
no it means "i came up with a dumb name for my product that pisses everyone off maybe i should change the name"
When you say "everyone", what you really mean is Israel and a handful of European Jewish organizations, because those are literally the only people reporting this nonsense. Which, all you need to do to piss them off, and have them denounce you, is to say something like "Palestinians shouldn't be abused" or "Israel should really let humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip". I'm sure if Germany built a new tank and named it the "Panther III' or "Tiger III", they'd be up in arms over that too.

maybe the european jewish organizations are "everyone". or at least, they are everyone who matters in this situation. last i checked, the holocaust wasn't a genocide against white american men.

Or they can just deal with it and move on. It's not going to hurt them in any way.

The holocaust also wasn't an exclusive genocide against Jews either. Many other ethnicity's and nationalities were also exterminated.

i hate to say this unironically, but you should probably check your privilege if you are telling jewish people or organizations to "deal with the holocaust".

true. organizations from which groups are defending the name?

Probably nobody, because if they did they would be branded as antiSemitics and probably barred entry to Israel.

oh wow the only reason that nobody is sticking up for this poor defenseless company is because of those dirty jews?

your point that israel has so much power over the world that they can and will silence anyone defending the name of a product named after the instrument of genocide?
by barring access to israel?

no my point is that if you show any sort of disdain for Israel or name a product something similar to another product that was used in the holocaust, you'll be branded antisemitic and the EU parliament will order you to change the name of your product (which is silly!).
