The way I see it, that sort of shit will be useful for the first people who live on Mars and Shit, lower gravity sure but it's a dangerous environment, if anything falls on someone you want to be able to get it off them quickly.

listen if we get to the point where we have some sick ass augmentations like HR, I'd gladly get a limb taken off to get one of those babies.
Call me crazy, but this whole transhumanist augmentation thing has always been something that amazes me to no end, and something I've always wanted to try. (before anyone goes crying "you're just an idiot nerde who likes this kind of thing cause of videogames!", I've been interested in this for long before that game ever came out)
I can't recall all the of universities that offer Cybernetics but reading is one. (I do not mean the old term)

They're all typically wrapped up in some form in BME courses, whether as part of the topic of prostheses or the like.

Even when this stuff becomes so readily available that it's being offered as an optional procedure, you'll only be able to afford it if you're part of society's richest people

I don't think that robotic limbs will become preferable until they've perfectly emulated normal limbs in every possible way.
After all, you're cutting off a perfectly good limb, not to mention all of the other reasons why your puny fleshling organic arm is superior to a metal one.

You couldn't punch a wall with a robot arm either, the shockwave of the impact your arm makes with the wall travels to your spine and hurts you there.

I think you could almost make a Deus Ex type prosthetic limb, minus the blade perhaps, if you had like the U.S. military budget at your disposal and a few years time.
I just hope that I don't have to cut my limbs just so I could compete with my peers

I am ashamed to say I am probably one of those people who'd replace their left arm or something just because it'd look cool, provided it's as functional or more than my original limb
