"We're too lazy to educate people about the dangers of pornography so instead we'll just censor it."
because pornography projects unrealistic expectations of what sex is like and - surprise surprise - actually having sex doesn't?
Just like watching a movie gives me an unrealistic expectation of what going outside it like?
Scat isn't the most appetizing subject for most people; that doesn't mean it should be considered embarassing and something that can't be openly discussed. There's nothing wrong with having a fetish, and it shouldn't be anything you have to hide from other people. What's the problem with children watching scat porn? Most are gonna find themselves repulsed by it; those that are far enough into puberty to be interested in sex and start developing fetishes aren't gonna start shitting on random people, just as kids know damn well raping people is wrong. If they're into scat and get with someone who's into it too, then what's the problem? Public indecency is another subject. Opening a porn site on a public internet connection doesn't mean you're gonna bother anyone with it - that's your choice and if you do, you will face the consequences. I'm not interested in watching porn in a public space, but I should damn well be allowed to, if I keep that private.
How can you possibly think showing children hard core fetish porn is acceptable? There doesn't even need to be a reason behind it, children should be playing on bikes not scatting on each other because they saw it online. I can't comprehend why anyone would think it's acceptable. If your mum came home and started casually talking about how she shit on your dads chest would you be happy it's no longer a taboo? And no watching porn in public isn't acceptable, it's not a private area, it's public.
I think its a bad idea because really how do you define if a website contains porn? Will it block facepunch because of the porn threads in fast threads? Will it just block that section? Or the individual threads? Its gonna be messy.
how is this being implemented? are they just forcing all routers to come with an enabled filtering setting?
Hopefully I'm safe, my stupid dad put on ISP level filtering and removed it. Lets hope thats serves as my opt-out message.
how is this being implemented? are they just forcing all routers to come with an enabled filtering setting?

Internet service providers (ISP) will be expected to provide filtering technology to new and existing customers with an emphasis on opting out, rather than opting in.
They're setting requirements for internet providers and they'll regulate the companies.
But then 99% percent of the internet would be inaccessable
i only just realised this comment makes no sense what am i doing
how is this being implemented? are they just forcing all routers to come with an enabled filtering setting?
It's not being implemented, since the only source is Wired and literally no other news site has reported on it This is the latest other source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/22758729
The proposed Online Safety Bill would require people to opt in and prove they were over 18 to view adult content. Although unlikely to become law, a government advisor said the bill should "keep up the pressure on" internet service providers.

If your mum came home and started casually talking about how she shit on your dads chest would you be happy it's no longer a taboo?
I wouldn't want to talk about it particularly, but I wouldn't really care.
And no watching porn in public isn't acceptable, it's not a private area, it's public.
You don't have to show your screen to anyone. In today's society, I'd be bothered, because you'd have to be pretty messed up to go around showing porn to everyone, not caring how it offends people. But it shouldn't offend anyone.

It's not right to sit in a public park with kids around watching porn - you wouldn't be doing for anything other reason that to become aroused or because you are already aroused. And so yes I would be offended and would not feel comfortable.
I'd never want to watch porn in public, someone might judge me for all the bondage porn I watch.
You don't have to show your screen to anyone. Even if it was somehow to pass blocking even a small percentage of sites would be a massive challenge, hell they can't even manage to block the pirate bay so they have no chance with porn. But how would I opt out? I don't want to have to phone up or anything that's just weird. Is there going to be like a setting on our ISP account controls on their website or whatever?
How does the blocking work? If url is here block: redtube.com youporn.com "That should be enough"
I started watching porn when I was 11 and I came out fine. Sorta But really there shouldn't be any filters to begin with.
Isn't this censorship?
Isn't this censorship?
yep but we're protecting the children so if you're against it you obviously hate children
This will only make teenagers/kids MORE fucking eager to get hold of it, is David Cameron an actual live dodo?
I think a lot of FPers fear having to say "dad can u turn off the porn block pls"
I was going to say it's a perfectly legitimate fear but pretty sure the dad would turn off the block asap for himself
Just like watching a movie gives me an unrealistic expectation of what going outside it like?
OMG ban nature documentaries.
UK is so fucked when it comes to computers. We're the only country that makes it illegal for you to refuse to give an encryption key. So you have pretty much zero privacy when it comes to storing data.
commercialization of childhood
what
Those of you fearing the awkwardness of having to say "get the hookup that comes with porn!" to your mom or dad, just spin it as anti-censorship. Tell them that this filtering is all about limiting your freedoms and this isn't China goddamnit!
I lol'd hard at the Daily Mail comments on this topic that came up a while ago.
How about a default setting that has to be chosen to ALLOW porn? Then we'd know who the perverts are, and their details can be logged. I think this could help when a child goes missing. The police could dismiss investigating decent folk and concentrate on the grubby ones. If it saves one life, it will be worth it.
^ Yep, we'd know who the 'perverts' are and instantly assume they're child molesters as well. Dismiss the 'decent folk' from all crimes - whatever the fuck that means.. Hobbits? - whilst going after 'grubby' people. IMO people like this are so prejudiced they should be arrested for it.
Yes please but filter it at the source. Internet providers should block it as standard so that you do not have to look for difficult settings or using web-filter programms which do not work. Professionally maintainted blocks at source is the only sure thing to do. In this case everything, all data in your homework wether for a pc, tablet or tv set is then safe of this rubbish.
I bet this guy is a fucking technician for Virgin! He certainly knows his technology! Would explain why their service is so quality!
Absolutely right to ban this filth from the internet unless over 18s opt in to it with a special code. It is perfectly possible for the internet service provides or search engines like Google to do this - their algorithms already do incredible things, so this should be a doddle. Only thing that stops them - too many very powerful companies are making far too much money. The Government should be ashamed of itself - so much of this material is responsible for giving young people especially a very damaging view of relationships between men and women, it cannot be right for young people to be exposed to it - so what is stopping governments intervening. Nothing - except powerful lobbying by the ISPs.
Yes! Google should be responsible! Because they control the whole internet right? IMO damaging view of relationships is this guy's fucking shit one where he's married, thus never gets laid anymore, obviously bored, thus sees it as his duty to come charging in, the great White Knight, to ruin everyone's fun frolicking with his somber, boring yet bold statements about what is 'right' and what is 'wrong'. - The fact is, you can have sex, legally at 16. Most people do it earlier, as young as 12. So, with this in mind, would you rather Little Joey be sitting at home, safely fapping away to Anal Blast 11, or going out, running the risk of impregnating some girl, getting a shitty dick, or AIDS.
Because porn isn't just 'people having sex', porn is tailored to give people what they aren't getting at home. Gang bangs, cum shots, bukkake, anal, etc are not suitable for children and it's a bit weird that people would want children to see it. It blows my mind how people on Facepunch get up in arms about a 12 year old playing COD but they'll happily let <12 year olds watch hard core porn. I can only imagine what parents you'd be. I'm not saying its the governments job to censor it, but there's no way I'd let a pre-teen child on the internet without a filter. [editline]16th June 2013[/editline] Can I also say this isn't on any other news site, and just the other week all Claire Perry (the woman in the article) had said was that we should do this, but it was unlikely to happen as it had been rejected before.
i wouldn't let a preteen child on the internet at all without supervision tbh thing is that's my job as a parent to do that; it's not the government's duty to moderate what my child has access to [editline]17th June 2013[/editline]
UK is so fucked when it comes to computers. We're the only country that makes it illegal for you to refuse to give an encryption key. So you have pretty much zero privacy when it comes to storing data.
well it's illegal for you to withhold an encryption key from the police - which makes sense considering it's like the police suspecting you for the kidnap of a child, finding a safe in your house surrounded by bloodstained childrens clothes with banging coming from inside and you not giving them the combination
well it's illegal for you to withhold an encryption key from the police - which makes sense considering it's like the police suspecting you for the kidnap of a child, finding a safe in your house surrounded by bloodstained childrens clothes with banging coming from inside and you not giving them the combination
No it doesn't make sense, you never have to put yourself in the shit and you don't have to share any of the stuff that's in your head. Effectively, your smart phone is just an extension of your brain, and no one should ever be allowed to access it. [editline]17th June 2013[/editline] Also there is no immediate danger from files in an encrypted container, no matter how you twist it, so your analogy makes no sense.
