I think people from the UK take more umbrage at the fact that people think it's awesome that the guy got shot. Taking a life in self-defence is a necessity, not something to crow from the rooftops about. If I felt it was the reasonable, and necessary, course of action to take an intruder's life, I would, but I wouldn't feel particularly good about it.

That warning shot it technically illegal, hopefully it gets overlooked though. I think the law is getting changed, or they are trying to change it and include yourself as a definition for your castle and allow warning shots so you don't have to shoot. As of right now though anytime you fire a gun in self defense (at least in Florida) you have to shoot them. I forgot if non-lethal shots are included, I would assume so.

I love these threads, it gives people a list of "People I can steal from without repercussions". You wouldn't have to even worry about getting shot or fought against because it'd be violence against another person.
